    • Ambitious TC-type mod project for EV:N

Hi. I'm completely new to EV series plugin design, but I've done some coding and D2 mods, and I think I'm up to the task. A while back, I had this crazy idea, and some of the things I've seen in the EV:N Bible that you can do makes me really want to do this0: I intend to make a plugin that changes Nova into a fantasy setting. I've got it all worked out, and I think it can work. Aside from a few minor problems (can every bit of text be changed to remove space references? Can the sky background be changed to say, grass?) I have one major problem: graphics. Sound would be nice, I'd like to have authentic sword sounds, galloping noises, etc. but that can wait until I see if the plugin goes over well. However, I will obviously need new graphics for just about everything. If anyone would be willing to help make the picts, I would love to recruit you for the team. Email me at solistus@mac.com for more info. Off to round up some helpers from my friends, bye!

note- PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. I MAY NOT HAVE TIME TO CHECK THIS BOARD AS FREQUENTLY AS MY EMAIL.

    • Meowx tried this earlier. It's clever, but really, why not just use Coldstone?

Over at the Coldstone board, there's been mention of trying to simulate EVO! It does seem a little like the man playing Chopin with his nose; "One admires the dexterity more than one enjoys the result."

And to follow with another bucket of ice-cold water (sorry)...isn't "Ambitious TC" a tautology?

My own glass house (a small TC) is still weeks from the first cargo missions. Given the calendar at work, it may be months before the first border patrols clash.

    • I've been asked 'why not coldstone' but the main reason is I prefer Nova's engine, strange as it seems. I know nothing about coldstone, but it seems to me Nova's engine is perfect for adapting to RPG format, except the problem of extremely awkward movement... inertialess upgrade is a solution if you are a level 17 monk or lvl 19-20 of another class, but I can't make that immediately available as it renders you immune to all my Push-type spells.

I do admit Escape Velocity has spoiled me...Coldstone is so determinadly menu driven it feels constraining by comparison.

    • Well if you decide to push on with the project for EVN, make sure you post it on UCplugs.evula.net so that people can keep track of it.
