    • Opinions wanted on plug-in's concept

I've been keeping this project fairly close to my chest for fear that I would be accused of vaporware, but now that I am fairly confident it will be finished (all that needs doing are about hald the missions and their associated VisBit systems), I am making a tentative announcement about the EV (original) plugin I am working on. I'm not giving too much away, but I need some advice on whether you think it is a good idea or not. Admittedly, it's a bit late if you don't like it... 🙂

The plugin's title is 'Intelligence'. It centers around that work of a large shipbuilding corporation to defend, explore and exploit a new region of space they have discovered. It is predominantly mission-based, but adds 12 systems, 5 ships and 4 outfits to the EV Classic universe.

This is the part I need advice on. The reason I am making this plug is so that we have another competent, well written and tested add-on plug for EV Classic. It is a niche that is actually very empty. While there are hundreds of 'adds one new system and 2 planets' plugins and a decent number of TCs, the only well-executed medium-sized addon I have ever really encountered is Clavius And Beyond.

My plugin should fulfil a similar sort of niche - playable using your existing EVC pilot file, with plenty of new ships and missions to occupy you. It is not intended to be the most original plug ever, in fact it isn't really very original at all in concept. A lot of missions that are not too hard to get your head round -do you think this type of plug would be popular? Is there demand for it?

Those of you who have known me here for a while know that I can spell (a rare commodity among plug makers ;)) and I have helped with other people's plugins a lot. As such, this project was intended for me to have a proper, completed project to my name, and one that would not make people think "Oh, Mazca. That guy who moderates the main development forum but can't make a decent plugin himself". 🙂

    • well, if the graphics are good and the missions are interesting and not too impossible, i'd probably play it. BTW, is the ship i made you going to be in it? ...and do you want me to make you any more?

    • Personally, I feel the concept is a great one. Last summer I was working on a similar type of plug, but eventually, I gave up on it. I think your idea is good and sound, though.

    • Yeah, as Joe said, go for it. I could very well be one of those people who won't be able to play EV Nova, and besides, even if in the short-term, few play your plug-in, there'll still be the legacy you leave behind.

It all goes along with this spirit of the return of the EV classic plug-ins...after NR I suppose I'm going to have to get my stuff going and try to rescue some of that vaporware I've had.

Heh, I have my measly 370 posts...and I thought I was starting to get active again...

    • Sounds like a great idea.

As far as I'm consirned there can never be too many EV Classic plugs.
If you need any help, I'll lend my assistance (Assuming you can find me).

I'm working on a similar project myself (completely different story-line, but same idea), I haven't made any announcements yet because there is always a chance that I will never finish it. 😉

    • Yeah. The reason I posted progress in my sig and made a website was to force myself to finish my TC. In fact, it initially started out as a EV classic add-on similar to yours, Mazca, adding one government, a few systems, and a handful of ships and outfits. Good add-on plugs that add on plot line are always in high demand. Even plug-ins that add nothing but ten or twenty new missions are in demand. After I finish this project, I'll either try to convert it to Nova, or I'll write some mission lines for Nova. Plot is always in demand.

      best of luck!

w00t is a general amusing word used to mean that something is great.

And thanks for the support on this plug. I will get it done, I promise 🙂

    • Yes, absolutely.

As a footnote, Eye of Orion is another good EV classic add-on plugin.

I personally prefer good add-ons to mediocre TCs. I loved EV classic, and some of my best memories are exploring the additional spaces that some of the great add-ons gave.

I look forwards to enjoying yours.

      Cheers

    • Sounds pretty good to me. I have a Power Mac 6100/60 so EVN is somewhat out of my capability. Any good new EV classic plug is welcomed.

    • Mazca - did you get the files?

    • All in all, sounds great-just a comment regarding your discussion of the lack of add-ons that weren't TCs- I think the Escape Velocity Game Expander was one of the best plug-ins of all time, if not the best. It added to the universe, even to the confeds and rebels (like some desperately needed carriers) as well as quadrupling the EV universe with all-new missions and allegiances.
