    • Best graphics designer... really

Please tell me the best yet less costly graphics designer that is easy for begginers to use. (For cost I mean about $50)

    • I use photoshop and Infini-D, and they work very nicely together for me. i only have v. 3.1 of infini-d, you should try for at least v. 4 or 4.5. I've heard that Carrera is better (it's a super-updated merged pumped-up version of Infini-D) but it'd probably be more expensive.

Got my first three applications for under $50 each; RD3D, (and then, RDS4.4), P3, B3D. Oh, and RenderBoy (lol). I think Amorphium was the first of the $100 aps...P4, um, something else...

And then there's Strata. And Mechanisto of course. And demos for durn near everything, some of which are full-function if time-limited. Those are all free. And keep an eye on the magazine cover CD's; not only full-function software, and a few models and textures to go with it, but you don't have to tie up your phone line downloading it.

    • I don't like Mechanisto or Strata, and especially Carrera...

But then again, you're cutting your choices extremely low if you're looking for something under $100. You'll need a few hundred dollars or so to spend on a good, reliable program.

It's very good. Pro is a full strength professional package which is used in the graphics industry for all kinds of things including film trailers, product packaging, advertisements, illustration and general TV work.

On the other hand, a skilled graphic artist can produce work of that quality with Strata3d (the fuller strength predecessor of the too-cut-down 'base'). As with most things graphic related, it's 10% having the right hard and software, 10% inspiration, and 80% executing, perfecting and polishing.

I've found few people who like that program, much less use it. I personally think Mechanisto is better (although you're very accomplished with POV-Ray).

    • Heh, POV Ray is superior to mechanisto in all areas appart from user interface. Why? I has a raytracing engine for one, it also has many advanced features...

Oh well, I'm holding out for maya =P

Strata sucks in my opinion. I see it as VERY hard to use, much more trouble than it's worth.

Wow. That is really, truly amazing. I think...I know very little in this realm of computers, though.

As for Pov-Ray, I got it a LONG time ago on my PowerMac 4500. I remember, I was like, "What the heck. This thing is 10 megs. Holy crap..." And it was very hard to use, but quite powerful if you knew how. I recall fooling around with this station graphic for awhile. It was gray, and I got the various parts of it to change colors, and I changed the rotation angle of these leg-like protrusions. Heh. I'd advise against that unless you are willing to learn the programming language-like complex. But it's freeware...I think...

Except I still haven't gotten a half-decent explanation of the 'easiest and most powerful for its required level of user-knowledge' graphics designer. I'm having a great time with Bryce. Yeah, it pisses me off with its thousands of bugs, but I tried Strata and it indoctrinated me against ALL pro-graphics programs until someone tells me otherwise. 😛

      Otherwise...
      Eh.

I've gotten the chance to work with Maya in school, and, while it beats out POV-Ray in pure modelling (for most things, anyway) and animation, it's lighting/rendering engine is impressively horrid. I get better looking results out of POV-Ray with near default settings than I've been able to get out of Maya after several hours of tweaking. Now I just need to find some way to export geometry built in Maya into POV-Ray, and I'll be all set...

If I had to choose only one or the other, I'd take POV-Ray; improved image quality is, to me, worth the extra effort I'd have to put into modelling.

Corel has all the patches for Bryce now. You have to poke around a bit, but they are there. Bryce 3.1 simply doesn't crash. It also remembers all changes, all presets...all of that funny behavior is gone. Bryce 4 with the latest Corel patch is almost as robust. 5 is now much better -- make sure you have the very latest Corel patch for it (just came out).

    • Well, I still can't believe that most of the bugs prevalent in Bryce 3.0 were just as prevalent in Bryce 5. Oh well. A patch sounds good.
