    • A Plug-in Development Manual

I'm writing a manual about EVO plug-in development. It doesn't just give you explanations on each resource, like the Override Bible, but tells you specifically how a plug-in is pieced together, as well as explaining some theories which, in my opinion, were left unclear in the Bible. It's about a quarter to a third done, but I don't expect to be finished for a while yet.
I need to know whether there is any demand for something like that, so that I can decide whether I should keep writing, or just shut up. 😉

    • Someone did do a very good one a year or so ago as a DocMaker document. I don't remember off hand what it was called, but its probably still in the add-ons section somewhere - worth a look even if only to confirm that what you're doing is going in the right direction.

Yes, I've been thinking about Nova. I see your point, but if NovaTools comes out very soon after Nova, it wouldn't be worth it to write a manual which no one will use.

I think I saw that once; however, it covered EV, and I haven't been able to find an EVO version.

    • I think your idea sounds very good. I haven't done much plugin writing since last spring, but I really would've liked something such as what you describe when I started out.

    • I assume that if you do this well, it will be very useful. There has never(to my knowledge) been a good documentation for explaining plug-in design, easy to understand, etc. I basically taught myself how to use ResEdit, which I'd say would have to be part of a plug-in manual like this one.

Thanks, especially for the part about ResEdit. I got my copy of ResEdit off a book/CD package about "real" Macintosh programming, which, of course, had a lot of documentation on ResEdit. It never occured to me that there might not be any documentation included with the official download.
I've been working on my ResEdit section all day.

How could something so useful be buried so deep?

Because of the way the board works.

Anyway, I've been talking to andrew, and I may get access to the FAQs for EV development. If you know of any topics that would be useful email me.

    • I just wanted to say this, as I think everyone may have gotten the wrong idea.

Many projects, like and unlike my own, have hyped everyone to the point where the audience is drooling, and then vanished into thin air. Whether or not this project is completed, I do not intend to do the same thing.
The manual is very likely to be finished and released. However, I cannot promise anything until I am sure beyond doubt that my project will be completed. The only reason I started this topic was because I wanted to know whether I should keep writing it at all.
All the same, I'd like to thank astro, Platypus, and Lequis MX for their encouragement, and Necromicon for his generous offer. I'll certainly consider it.
