Does anyone know where i can get a older version of Strata? Strata 3D 3.0.2 doesn't work under OS 8.1 which is the OS i have. I would appreciate any help.

Unfortunately, it is just that, a demo, and you can't save your work. You might just be out of luck, as I don't think there was a free version of the software before 3.0.2.

Well, I was in your position. But, luckily, I had an iMac coming. Before that, I used Mechanisto (availible at ftp://www.ambrosiasw.com/pub/ev/utilities...hanisto.sit.hqx ) which is freeware, easy to use, and makes some decent pictures. (see Oriste plug-in for EV-all of that was done in Mechanisto) Also, for some (cruddy) samples and models, go to (url="http://"http://madman80513.vze.com")http://madman80513.vze.com(/url) and click on the 'Shipyard' section.
Yes I got all the stuff you sent me. Yes, I followed the insturctions. No, it doesn't work. Why? Because it needs a file called cfgopentpt which is something that comes with OS 8.5 and later which I do not have. Since it requires that file and I don't have it, I can't run it. Also, it's not the program. i've tried both with other copies but they had the same error message.

Well from what you said in your email it sounds like your computer can handle 8.5, so I recommend updating to that as it is basically far superior in almost every aspect. If you can upgrade to 9.2 as it should run fine on your mac.
I find it strange that you cant get it to work as I have heard of it being run under 7.6.1... strange!

You can't actually. Apple doesn't even have the updates for 8.x on their site last I heard, which was strange since they have 7.x on there.

Not really strange, Apple just releases the OS updates as they get older, so I would imagine 8.5 will be up there eventually.
zhouj: Here's a (url="http://"http://www.macresq.com/store/detail.las?-token.prod=MR007491&-token.1=20011017-194026-1524")link(/url) to a copy of OS 8.5 for sale. Unfortunately, it's $99, so you'd be better off going straight to OS 9, which is the same price, if your Mac can handle it. You might also try (url="http://"http://www.ebay.com/")eBay(/url), they usually have a decent selection.

What kind of machine are you on? And how much RAM?
Hey, I am having a strata problem myself. I download the free file from download.com, a .sit appears on my Desktop, I unstuff it, an installer appears, I try to open the installer, and I get an error. Well, not an error, really. MacOS is seeing the installer as a document, and cannot find the application to run that "document." This is happening to me with a lot of Vice installers recently. I know for a fact that it is an incompleted download. I tried it with all extensions on, with all off, and it still won't work. Any suggestions?

This happens to me to but ResEdit is the answer. Just get info on it in resedit and set the type to "APPL" . Then the system should recognize it just fine.

Thanks, that worked perectly. New problem, though... In strata3d, is there a way to resize the viewing window? I mean, like, zoom out and view the image from father away.

From Apple Support Site:
**In order to install and run Mac OS 9, you will need the following system configuration:
Mac OS-based Apple computer with a PowerPC processor (PowerPC upgrade cards and 680X0 processors are NOT supported. See note below). Mac OS X Server IS NOT supported (MacOS.app). NetBoot images on Mac OS X Server are supported, but require a Mac OS 9 license for each NetBoot client.
150 MB to 250 MB for an easy install (though a universal install can be up to 400 MB) of free disk space, depending on options selected, and drive size and format.
40 MB of RAM (32 MB of physical RAM, with virtual memory set to at least 40 MB).
**
In short, yes, Mac OS 9 will definitely run on that machine.

Also if you have the october '99 MacAddict CD, it has StrataVision which was the free predecessor to Strata3d and will definitely work with 7.x (the Myst graphics were made with it).
It would be much better to get OS9 and Strata3d though.

The zoom tool can be selected with this button . If you hold down option and click on the window, it will zoom out.
