    • Come on, TSB. Get the ev bible and resedit and spend the entire 59 seconds it takes to learn it. Don't spend all your time searching for some outdated plugin that was taken off the net because it was causing problems; get Shmelta-V and resedit. Devmap works, too. Why are you so unwilling to use res-edit? Like someone above said, if you have the time to be making plugins, you have time to learn resedit.

    • ares1, I have the EV Bible. I have the annotated version. I have that whole Plug-In Helper with the blank plug `n stuff. It does not take no 59 seconds to learn it. But HEY!, I'm learning more and more about it. I guess it isn't so hard after all.

    • Gaviiiin -
I don't know how often you check your e-mail, but I sent you one. It says:
Where can I find EVE v3.3.2?

      So, where can I?

    • Nevermind, I got 3.3.2 now.
But now I want to insert ship graphics. But I can't. I can't through EVE332. When I open the folder that has the mask and pict file, it shows nothing to open.
So I am trying through RE. But I don't know how. There are just numbers when I open my plug. But when I open the pict and mask itself, it's there. So how do I put it into the Plug throu ResEdit??

    • I know how to Copy and Paste in RE. But I don't know where to Copy then Paste it to. I tried just puting thm in the main file once you open it up. But that makes the sidebar and the intro screen all weird. So, any place I can put them? I tried Ship, but no place to paste the pictures.

    • Come on, man. I'm trying my best to be patient and helpful, but it's getting annoying. I and several other have told you: You need the ev template open in order to edit EV resources in resedit. Copy the TMPL resource into your plugin and it will be fine.

And if you can't get the hang of ResEdit within 10 minutes, well... It's the same exact thing as EVE but it won't (*$# everything up and it doesnt have pull down menus. I promise you that if you spend 10-20 minutes reading the EV Bible and tinkering with resedit, you will have no problems.

    • Well, the main thing with the EV Bible, is that I can't understand it. And I already did copy th TMPL file into the game. I will try more.

    • (oh, ares1 already posted...)
I have yet more useful advice to give:

      1. Read the EV Bible.
      2. Study the EV Bible.
      3. Start over at one, and repeat.

Once this has become repetitive, go ahead and make the plugin...eh? What's that? Oh, you want some helpful advice...ok then - listen up.

You have to understand the different resources. The EV Bible explains them better than I ever could, but since you want help from a person, I'll tell you as best as I can. Each resource controls a different part of the game. For example, the shďp resourse is where the data about the ship's statistics goes. The gövt resource controls what the particulars are for each government. Et cetera, et cetera... So, then, let's say you want to copy a ship from Clavius and Beyond into you new plugin. Well, you'd open up the shďp resource, copy out the ships you want, and paste them into the shďp resource of your plugin. If you don't have the shďp resource in your plugin, a simple way to make one is to copy it from another plugin, then paste it into yours. Then open up the resource, and delete all the entries. Now you have a blank resource just waiting to be filled. Oh, and if you double-click on an entry in a resource and it shows up nothing but numbers, you need to copy the TMPL resource out of EV Data and paste into the main section of your plugin. That fixes the problem.

Now, as my mom use to say, "Use your brain, not mine!" Heck, I guess she was talking to me... 🙂

I believe when TSB is refering to just numbers in ResEdit and how the screens get messed up, he is speaking of the resource numbers which I doubt anyone has discussed. In fact TSB, the resource number of your pics do matter and they have to equal where EV expects them to be. Pontus makes a program called EV Formula Calc, where you enter the ship ID#, and it will give you all the proper resource numbers for all of the descs, pics, and sprites. Also, there can only be one kind of a resource number loaded by EV, so when you are simply copy pasting into ResEdit, the pics are taking on an ID value of probably #128 and #129 and if I remember correctly, 128 and 129 in the EV Data files are the title screen and the interface. If you are having problems with ID#'s and understanding them, my suggestion would be to open up a plug that someone else has already finished and released and play with it. See how things work. Paste one of your images in place of their's and then see how it loads into EV. ResEdit can be alot like html and Javascript in this respect of learning by looking at what others have done. I hope some of this helps.

    • OOOOHHH YEEEAAAAHHH! I remember that! I have that Calc packed away in my EV Programs file. Okay. But i still need to know where to put the following:
      Picts
      TMPL
      Spin
Do I just put them in the main window that pops up when you open the Plug with RE?

    • Those are resources. Make new resource. Add new item. Read EV bible. 🙂

What you refer to as a plug you must keep in mind is really a data file with a resource fork. The main window that first opens with your 'plug' is the resource fork. It is much like a map, showing you all the resources you have in your resource fork. PICTS, TMPL, and SPINs are all types of resources. You need to have the TMPL resources installed in your resource fork. Then to create PICT and SPIN just create a new resource and search for the ResEdit names that match them. Create the resource, then open it, and install your data (ie Pics) in the resource using the proper corresponding ID#.

    • TSB, have you read the FAQ yet? Every single question you've asked so far is answered in it.

      (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=29&SUBMIT;=Go#28")How do I make a ship?(/url)

The ship graphics are PICT resources. They are referenced by spďn resources. A shďp resource requires a spďn resource with the same ID# that points to the sprite graphics it will use. If you didn't get this from a reading of the EV Bible, you might try my annotated edition, available in the addons page under guides (IIRC, the filename is "evbae") or better yet:

      RTFF!

FAQs exist for a reason: to save time for everyone.

    • So, my useless ten cents... I'm a confirmed right-brain artist type. Nothing interests me less than learning piles of numbers when I've got art to create. Hey, I use a mac, right? But after a few days of messing around with, well, practically all the EV editors I broke down and gave ResEdit a spin.

ResEdit is god. With the templates installed (right off the EVO install folder), and Pontus' wonderful EVO Formula Calculator and the annotated EV Bible open on the desktop, ships and stellars just flew off the keyboard. The first test drive of the plug-in performed flawlessly, without a bug or crash by EVO.

Still, EV Edit helped me greatly in learning the basic concepts and organization of the resources. For that alone, it was worth the shareware fee.

    • Actually, I know exactly how to work Res-Edit, I've made plug-ins with Res-Edit, and I hardly ever use Res-Edit. Some of us has damn work to do and I personally don't have time to make plug-ins with having to keep looking back at the EVO bible all the time. I don't want to learn all the damn flags and stuff off by heart.

In fact, Martin, I have to disagree with you on missions. For me, what doesn't work very well is graphics, which I do with Res-Edit or specific programs like EVOGod and ShipWrite. Missions never fail me with 3.3.2, unless I make a mistake myself.

Unfortunatly I don't have enough commitment to complete the cool ideas I have to life. I have about 7 major plug-ins on my hard drive, a third finished, sitting there. But I have experimented with every recourse in EVE and like I said, graphics is the only buggy thing, as well as limited STR editing.

TSB, try using EVE for your first plug-ins. If you encounter the problems which everyone seem to have apart from me, slowly learn Res-Edit. Use other tools like EVO map to help.

Also, I don't use this e-mail yet, it was only to register my name. I think I might start using it though.

      Good luck!
