    • so you'll give me everything but $42 if i answer your question? in that case, try mission control. i don't know if it's still online somewhere (maybe somewhere in the depths of (url="http://"http://www.sutherland-studios.com.au)")www.sutherland-studios.com.au)(/url), but you can probably find it somewhere (ask ralph and rodger, i haven't seen anything of it since their 1.0b2 release)

I think they took it offline because it was buggy and they were too busy developing for Nova to fix it right now.

    • On a serious note, what's wrong with ResEdit? That's what I've been using to do the missions on (url="http://"http://members.home.net/e-gamerguy1/ev/alien_invaders/main.html")my plug(/url), which as you probably remember, is largely missions, many of them rather complex.

It's too hard. I don't have as much free time as you, Mac. 😉

Mission writing in ResEdit isn't hard, I'd say for the actual mission code, it only takes me about a minute per mission, if that. I don't exactly put a stopwatch on myself. 😉 Longer if you include planning and descriptions, of course, but an editor won't help much with those. 😉

    • Yep... But one thing I liked with R&R;'s editor is immediate access to ressource lists with the names (düdes, spöbs...)

Schmeta_V is much easier, for me , when making missions. I want to know if there is an equivelent for EVO. Believe me, I can make missions much faster without ResEdit.

    • I wrote all my EVO missions in Schmelta V and cross ported (though I would have used R&Rs; if it had been out).

There are a couple of features in EVO 1.0.2 that aren't in Schmelta, so you will still need to tweak in ResEdit if you want to use them.

However, writing missions in ResEdit is frustrating because you spend a lot of time in mid flow which should be creative time just looking up values and working out what the correct formulas are.

I usually plan the mission out in my head right before setting it up in ResEdit, so then I can just slice right through everything quickly, possibly double checking a flag or resource number or two along the way. That way, all I have to do is punch in the numbers real quick. I've never seen any real formulas that you have to do in missions though, it's just numbers, and most of them I don't have to look up or really even think about much.

    • As far as I can tell, EVO God supports mission editing.

    • Schmelta has a number of problems. For one thing, it only works with EV data. I notice some people here (the board, that is) seem to be blathering about how EVO sucks, but the game engine is an improvement, and I would expect any total conversion made these days to be for EVO, rather than EV. I plan to convert my EV plugs to EVO by simply converting the entire EV universe along with them... err, s/simply //.

Secondly, it likes to put things where it wants them, not where you want them. This can cause problems if you use both ResEdit and Schmelta to edit a plug at various times, and due to Schmelta's limitations, you'll need to at least in order to add the data that it can't handle. Can you resist the temptation to edit missions, dudes, etc. while working on other things? I couldn't, especially considering that you can't have a plug open in both at the same time. I believe I can trace a number of bugs in my plug Bounty Plus to use of both Schmelta and ResEdit in alternation.

Schmelta isn't entirely bug free, either, although it's certainly better than, say, EV-Edit.

Finally, you'll need to learn ResEdit anyway to do the rest of the data. So you won't actually be losing any time by learning ResEdit. Why bother switching back and forth?

This link may save you some time. It doesn't update EV to the most recent version of EVO, but it saved me quite a few steps when I ported Pale to EVO.

      Give it a look.

    • Try BBEdit. Seriously. Write the misn texts in a text file, carefully labeling each text block with the misn desc it is for (BriefText, QuickBrief, DumpText, CompText etc). Write a couple of lines about how much it pays, bits triggered and special ships involved. Basically do all your creative work in the text editor, then do the grunt work in Resorcerer (Resedit for the rest of you).

I have only made a dozen or so misns, and this is the most efficient method I've found so far.
