    • Aquiring 3D EV:O models

Is there a way anyone could e-mail the model of the miranu ginship, in a format other than Infin-D. Best would be 3d Studio, or .dxf, but most formats that dont contain a resource fork would be fine (.lwo, lightwave) not sure is strata does, but any of these would be fine. Any help in this area would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

The files on the addons page are in Infini-D format, which some people - including, it seems, jdh545 - can't read.

    • Infini-D files aren't easily converted to other formats. So you should probably forget about trying to get the EVO 3D Designs in another format, but if you have to, the (url="http://"http://allmacintosh.iol.it/files/infinid.hqx")demo(/url) might be able to export individual objects into things like DXF or 3DMF, but I doubt it.

My best advice, would be to buy a copy of Infini-D somewhere (ebay, etc.) or make your own model of the Miranu Gunship in the 3D program of you're choice.

      ------------------

    • I have no problem designing my own model, infact i have done quite a few lately, I was asked however to retexture a gunship. The problem is not obtaining a copy of Infin-D, i have acces to one of those, the problem is obtaining a model without a resource fork. I do not know how to use Infin-D, but a colegue of mine has it, for the PC. I wanted to do the models in a few unix modeling programs that i have, and there is no resource fork in unix, even if there was, i would have no way of opening the files, because none of my unix software will import infin-D Esentially i am asking anyone with infin-d to export it to a dxf or 3ds format, if that is possible (mabey there is a file conversion util that could do it.) If it is i would greatly appriciate it.

      ------------------

    • if you have infini-d, just open the file you want, go down to export (in the file menu), and select objects. it'll give you the little file save dialog, with a little menu allowing you to choose the format (i don't remember all the options, but 3dmf is the default, i think)

    • Problem is is that the copy of infin-D that i do have access to is on my friends PC which doesnt support resource forks. So if anyone could convert and mail it to me thay would have my thanks.

I just did a quick search on the web and this is what I came up with. Hope it helps. (url="http://"http://www.3dlinks.com/software_converters.cfm")http://www.3dlinks.c..._converters.cfm(/url)

There's also a Infini-D -> POV converter for the Mac I found. I don't have the link directly with me right now, though I could find it again.

Maybe you should've tried opening the scene files on your friends computer, because Infini-D scene files, don't have resource forks. (Alright, they do. But it's just a #%$@ing version number!)

    • Can you get the original Escape Velocity Infini-D models on the downloads page? I haven't ever seen it...

The models from the original EV have not been released, and there are no plans that I am aware of, to do so. (Anyways your recreations kick the butt of the orignal models, so what'do you care? :p)

Oh, BTW, what program did you use, skyblade?

      ------------------

    • He uses Photoshop and Infini-D.

Infini-D can export objects as DXF and 3DMF. They loose all textures as DXF and its a fairly old version, some programs might read the file a little different than intended. For example Auto-CAD reads my rose model as 35,000 different little triangles, which makes manipulation very hard.

If you can get Carrara if can read Infini-D, 3DS, DXF, 3DMF etc. and I think has a better export/import engine.

You like my recreations? That's good news...I didn't even know you were familiar with my Confederation / Rebel ship re-makes, sense I don't ever see you commet at the Image Gallery. :p)

As Squinky said, Infini-D and Photoshop. While I still enjoy 2D art, I've began to invest some serious time into 3D modelling. I also have Cinema 4D, but don't use it sense it's currently rather hard to use (I'll put off using Cinema 4D until I get really good with Infini-D). My copy of Cinema 4D is also screwed up, so I need to get my older brother to fix it up.

Infini-D 'eh? I thought that's what you used, but I wasn't quite sure.

I only visit the Image Gallery briefly and infrequently. As a general rule, I only post places that I visit frequently, (That way, I can have a chance at replying) so I don't much post on the EV B&B;, Image Gallery, or anywhere else other then the Developers Corner and EVO/N boards.
