    • What the... ?

Ok, EVO won't start up anymore. I didn't do anything to the data files, and it'll just crash at an apparently random point of startup. None of the files are corrupted, but jsut to double check, it wouldn't work with a TC plug loaded either. The only thing that might have done it is I just put EVO Dev map on my computer and did some editing with it. Of couse, I showed it where the data files were. But EVO dev map never screwed up EVO on my old computer, and I don't want to download EVO again... anyone know what's going on here?

    • Sorry, but I don't think you can fix this without re-downloading.

    • Just check that there are no ships with failing sprites or double files or references to unexisting ressources and it should function...

    • sure its not a memory problem?

    • Never mind, it was an extension conflict. Apparently I've been caught up enough in programming so it's been much longer than I thought that I actually played EVO.

    • Ok, it's doing it again. And this time I checked very thoroughly and it's not an extension conflict.

Re-downloading didn't work (the new copy did the same thing), I assinged 65 MB of memory to it, and I tried using a TC plug that I know has worked for other people, so I'm completely baffaled.

No systs with 0 set in the spob type instede of -1
      Extra memory
      Tried a new pilot
Something that I can't remember that made EV crash

Have you tried all of the above?

    • It wouldn't start with Frozen Heart, SRE Alpha 2, or Galaxy's Edge, so it's not any bad resources or anything like that. I'll try deleting the preferences and get back to you as to whether it works or not.

Try with all non-essential extensions off. Also try allocating less memory - EV:O should run in about 10-12 MB and sometimes too much memory can cause weird things to happen.

      Good luck

    • I assinged that much memory only after it didn't work.

I'll try turning extensions off, but not being the only person who regularly uses this computer, I'm not exactlly sure which ones are "non-essencial"...

Stock EV:O should run in the "recommended" memory allocation - I'm too lazy at the moment to look it up, but it's easy enough to check. As for extensions, the simplest way is to shut them all off by holding down the shift key during startup - but you know that already. If different people use the machine, it's not a big problem to use Extensions Manager to create a custom set of extensions for different people or for different uses of the computer: a gaming set, an Internet set, etc. All this is based on a system earlier than OSX - if you're using that I have no idea what the problem may be.

    • This seems to be though. Change the computer. Reinstall the system. Even change the user, you may be incompatible with EVO 😄

Do not take seriously anything of what I said above!
Throw away the "override license" that should be in the preferences folder. It might work.

If it is an old computer, buy a new one (and then send it to me 🙂 )

Does the screen turn black or does turn into alot of goofy looking colors?

Hem, i didn't catch a point: have you tried to run it without that plug-in? In any case: under wich system do you experience these problems? Did you tried to substitute the DrawSprocket ext.? Sometimes the problems come out from there. In any case, if i were you, next time i'd rather do a backup copy of the EVO data files, before working with a new plug (sorry if this sounds redundant to you). In any case (under pre OSX sys), if i were you, i'd follow the advice to make a personalized set of extensions, so to be sure not getting ext. conflicts problems.
Ah, by the way: try scanning the files with more utilities (wich one did you use?) for cheking if the data files are corrupted.
      Hope this helps.

    • I almost forgot: try get a glance at "Sad Macs, ombs and other disasters" (by, hum, Ted Landau, perhaps?): sometimes it has really cool and useful infos about why the Mac gets bizzarre (maybe a lack of care: go and caress him immediatly! 🙂 ). I keep my copy at hand every time i boot my 4400 (sometimes i even skip through the pages waiting fot that infinite Bryce rendering to finish). Really if you can afford it: it's an expense worth every ounce of the book (and it's very "bulkous").
I'll stay tuned to hear from you about your struggle: keep trying chap!

    • •Of course I've tried it without any plugs

•The screen doesn't turn black, funky colors, or anything - it just freezes

•It is a new computer (And no, I'm not sending it to you!)

•I figured out what was doing it - there was a control pannel(not an extension) that was incompatable with it.

•I've never heard of a Control Pannel Conflict, but there's a first time for everything.

Me neither, which control panel was it?

Ok, it was from a MP3 application, but none of the people who use this computer use MP3's. Wierd...
