Don't be so quick to disparage these people, guys.

Remember, the all-powerful ATMOS Software Productions were once as you see them now...

Mind you, of all the groups attempting EV development, it's interesting to note that all the groups that failed had one thing in common: they were all young americans.

      all the best,

      Dave @ ATMOS

/me notes that I am a young American... Though I wish I wasn't, and although I was born here and have lived here all my life, I'm still a Scot at heart (or rather, at blood ;))!

    • with EV Nova comming, it will soon be impossible to do a one-man TC (unless you're Martin Turner). The advent of such groups is good news.

As some of you may know, I am in involved in a group project (Mille Terrae) that is going along just fine. Our group as 4 Americans, 1 German, 1 Canadian, and 1 Brit. As one of our last touches before beta, we just got a new interface done, and "Negative Influence" replaces the Ambrosia logo, so I guess that's our name.

So yes, American-Heavy development groups can and do work.

I assume Martin Turner is also one of those Lucky Bastards, so that cancels the advantage another lucky bastard has over him.

Of course, I'm not saying some other Lucky Bastard could be inspired to MT-level quality by these wonderous Nova Tools, but whatever.

They can't make the 3D Grahpic Design much easier. The Inability of the average developer to make kick-ass 3D like you or Deadboy or Weepul or whoever can is the prime reason development teams start.

Actually "Negative Influence" is something that Necro threw in before he went vapor on the project. I don't know what it means but I've been too lazy until now to yank it from the resources. It's funny that you mention it, though, it'll be coming out shortly. I was working on a possible replacement just this morning. Not really a logo, per se, but some eye candy.

No real advantage, I'd say. EVN plug-ins (Especially TCs) will take a **** load of time regardless of who has the tools a few months or whatever ahead of anyone else. The only reason Martin would be able to kick all of our asses is because he can do all aspects of plug-in making himself, which gives him a tremendous advantage.. But maybe not anymore.

Geez! You all worship Martin Turner! The only things he's good at are: resource editing, graphics, writing, composing, and balancing things. Let's be honest, who needs those things? I prefer to have a plugin that goes: "Out of memory, hehe" than play one that is playable (I have many a fond memory of playing my plugin 'amnesia' over and over again). Geez, he releases the 2 most playable and wonderful plugins ever and you think he's any good. Geez. If anything he has a disadvantage when making Nova plugs.

Good to see a proud, fellow southerner. 🙂

    • I don't know if the fact of being american is a problem. I just think that the problem is that some developer teams are all bunchs of like 20 people spread all over the world... We have to put quick end to the developer armies... I think a developer team (especialy when the main -if not the only- communication media is the Net) should'nt be more then 3 or 4 people. For bigger projects, 2 graphic artists may be needed, although sometimes its better when only one person make the work because every artist has its own style . A person to lead (or at least coordinate) the team is absolutely necessary. If possible, this person could write the storylines/scenario and could be assisted by another one to code the whole thing.

A good suggestion: If you want to make a plug, don't come on the board and post a message like "Need artists for 'PyroTech' * and then briefly explain your idea. I think you should already have a good idea of what will be your scenario... Write it down and create a 2-3 pages document with your basic idea, the governments you would like to add, even add hand drawn pictures if you can so the artist gets an idea of what he'll have to create... But be sure the your whole team partcipates, if you are just there to order the 3d artists to 'make this outfit picture' or 'create this landscape', you become a tyran and this is very bad 🙂

      • PyroTech is the (temporary) title of my first project for EVN but this is not the point of this post.
