    • Need Rendering Program

Right now I'm working on a few new PICTs for Zacha Pedro, and I need a better rendering program for some of the PICTs. So far I've been using MakeSpin, however, that program tends to mess up graphics. To be more precise, it makes it so that the mask isn't alinged (sp?) right, and the graphic's screwed up. Anyway, I need a better rendering program that won't mess up graphics. However, if anyone knows how to correct this bug in MakeSpin, then please tell me.

      Thanks in advance.

    • I've never seen this bug before and I've used the program for about 80 ships in the past couple o years. Can't help ya.

    • Maybe I don't have the latest version...

I just got an idea; why don't I send you the bad PICT file, and you take a look at it. Maybe you could figure out a way to fix it.

Send it to me (email address on info button) I've seen this many, many times.

Your situation sounds similar to the ones that I've encountered myself, but all situations are typically not as they seem, but if you send it to me I'll see what I can do. I'm going to assume your going to send me the sprite mask and colorized sprite?

    • Of course, but you must keep any information on the PICTs highly confidential until they're published by Zacha Pedro (I'm making these PICTs for him).

    • Carnotaur, as I'm not an artist and as I do not use it, could you please explain me what a rendering program is?

    • A rendering program is a program that renders single ship PICTs. For example, lets say that I wanted to make a ship. First, I would create a small PICT of the ship (with a black background) facing upwards. Then, I would import that into the rendering program, and the program would create the final and total PICT with the ship showing at all angles (sp?). Kind of hard to explain. Hope that helped.

Damn! I have the same damn problem! I made 2 cool ships and then this... Grrr... They look like they're not alligned or sth, when you play the ship in EV some parts are missing or sth... I'm way too lazy to patch them all together myself so I stopped making ships... Argh... Besides I'm busy testing a cool Beta Plug 🙂

      Arrrrrrr, matey!!!!

    • I use Strata to render all the frames (rotating the ship 10? each time) and save them as a movie (in milions of colours).

Then I use "Movie to Sprite" by R&R; Software to convert that into a sprite. "Movie to Sprite" also makes a mask automatically.

You have to remember that all the x sizes must be divisible by 6 and 8 I think and the y sizes just by 6. I'll post a table someday...

Anyways to Captain Carnotaur. I'd need the original 3d file if I am to fix your mask problem.

Here is the link I made detailing what goes wrong and how to fix it:
      (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/startrekev/masks.htm")http://homepage.mac....rekev/masks.htm(/url)

I hope you can fix it using your program. If you can't I have many, many 3D programs purchased throughout the years (from RayDream Studio -> InfiniD -> StrataStudio Pro and many more) and maybe I can help you with your file.

When your sprites are misaligned it is usually because the spďn sizes are not correct. These sizes are guarnteed to work.

      x = 1, 8, 16, 32, 48, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 144, < -- Much more memory is greatly needed after this sprite size 160, 176, 192, 208
y= can be any whole number.

Sprite frames must be a multiple of 8 pixels wide for EVO. ie 88 will work just fine.

Thanks Carnotaur. The sole time I tried (unsucessfully) to make ship sprites I used Photoshop, I rotated the first and I made them together. This looks a bit "artisanal".
