I would be willing to help as much as possible. Though I don't have any experience in programing, I would be willing to allow computer to be used as a server, as long as somebody explains what I would need to do.

I'll be chucking up some new screenshots in the next couple of days of a rewrite. It's looking pretty good and if I use supersocket it will be great for games.For the time I'm just going to use the ordinary socket and upgrade later.

I love that "Why the Internet Sucks" story kberg sent the link for. You just hear yourself saying "Exactly" over and over to yourself.

I'd still like some discussion on game ideas. But don't deviate to far from the original: EV - EVO. Like wormholes are cool but we don''t really want to put them in a network EV. That sort of stuff is just extra work as well.

hey, i've got another idea, have a tracker to list all the servers. if i had a more powerful machine i'd put forward, but someone with a g4 and xDSL should be able to hadnle that. i think that a tracker is one of the first steps to getting this thing to work.

The client and server side of things is Sebek's stuff. I'm sure he can answer those questions. A tracker would be cool but in the end the game will just rely on one main server and not many 'trial' servers here and there, so there really would be no need.

so let me explain some things.

first: i really dont have much time for eva at the moment cuz of school and my drama club and stuff.
that will change with the end of november (yeah).

second: the demo (expired) release was the first playable release. it has expired because you cannot register REALbasic Alpha Versions.
because of this i posted a package containing (a) the server ( demo-client and chat-only client.

third: this "tracker" that was purposed is in development. it is just called NMS aka Network Main Sever.

fourth: NO TIME FOR README. WILL MAKE DOCS WHEN TIME. PLEASE HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP.

okay, come november...you need to make a better GUI. all the windowed stuff confused me. the same thing with avara, there's all these windows and i didnt know how to work it for a while.

maybe something simple like the EV GUI but instead of fancy graphics and animations, just some white buttons on black background stating what each does eg. host game, join game, preferences, start new pilot, ect ect...

and we need to figure out who's going to be the big server with their G4...

i'm still confused about the demo version and playable version and all this...

cant you just make a release in which you can join a server without getting error 101?

YAY is for i figured the damn thing out. now how do you fly? i chatted with myself, and then i spammed myself and my computer froze :frown:

I think planes were invented so that people can fly. You might want to check out your local airport or something, I don't know, I'm not that technologically orientated.

You'll only get error 101's when the server can't be contacted. You gotta make sure there is a server at the other end of the line.

The version of RealBasic sebek used to compile the program(s) was an alpha version. That means that only special testers can register their copies. We don't have a serial number for RB3 alpha x, so we can only compile unregistered apps. That's why they expire.

As for the server, I think I should be able to provide the OSX machine machine full time. There's just a few people who still use it but I think the novelty of it will wear off soon.

There's nothing up with snap01.png.

But finally, to 'fly' you either have to download Helian Wars from (url="http://"http://uq.net.au/~zzlukirk/")http://uq.net.au/~zzlukirk/(/url) (remember to amp the memory up before playing) or wait until sebek has finished all his school stuff for a new build.

Hope December comes quickly for you sebek. School sucks and everyone knows it.

well, i've proven that the server actually works, and can be connected to, by having my buddy join while we chatted on icq.

you just need to get the missions fixed up so that we can play/fly/fight, dont bother with ship classes/weapons/credits for a while yet.

(if this sounds like i'm trying to take over the project, please dont take it that way)

Up the memory, snapo1 is from the expired client, it expires after 30, you fight with helian wars or the expired client.
