My sister and I once tried a smoothie that was something similar. We called it disgusting. 😉

      1. If you're going to test the plugin yourself to see if all the missions work, go make yourself a "supership" that you can fly in and won't get blown up or run out of time in. Just for your own testing. But remember to get rid of it before releasing the plug-in.

      1. Also, I would recommend testing the missions using a ship the player would likely have at that point in the game, to be sure that the mission is possible.

BTW, was the note at the top of the posting screen about reading the web board guidelines always there?

      1. Have a big map of your universe somewhere easily acseible (you wall, the desk next to you computer screen, in front of the toilet for those working with laptops etc...) so you don't get confused as to where you are sending the player. The more systems you have, the more important this can be.

      A very good point.

      1. Grammar
Make sure you have correct grammar, and for cryin' out loud check all the "your"s, poeple often forget the 'r' (i speak from expeiriance, as well as observation)

P.S. examples of bad grammar, and left out 'r's can be found in some of the above posts

Either I'm mixed up and have lost track of whose joking, or you don't have much room to talk. (not that I have that much room, either). Anyways, I'm not going to touch this one.

    • Edit to 102) make it in color for quicker reference, and make a new one, or section, each time you edit the map (now, who was it that ruled Quam, the Zelb or Garn? "gee, i can't remember, now i'll have to spend hours trying to find that again" or something like that will happen)

      1. betta testers are only human, they may get confused about missions, and maybe not understand why something doesn't work, when they infact blocked it using a failbit, or did an opposing mission that keeps the one they want from working. be sure to check over they're suggestions, and maybe improve the descs to make your point more obvius before you go and re-structure your game. my wasn't that long? which leads me to...

      2. don't get too convoluted when describing things, people get lost.

      1. When making systems that will change hands, temporarily call the system (ex. system (govt)) so you know who owns it when you are making a mission (so you don't have to fly to the Renegade system of Riomor in a mission when the UE took it over in the previous mission).

P.S. Only 110 Commandments? Can't we have more?

      1. a) Divide and Conquer. Finish the stuff for one government before moving on to the next.

(And thus was the problem of only 110 commandments solved - subdivide!)

If Martin edits what's posted now—pruning some of the drink recipes, for example :)—it will probably take twenty more suggestions to get to one hundred and ten. So I would imagine that you could make some more suggestions.

      1. While working on the plug, have a documentation system set up running alongside whatever you are working on that works for you. Something where you can keep track of spur of the moment ideas, oddities or temporary things that you may want to go back and check on, and other things of that nature. It'll save you a lot of time in the end. Also, should you ever have a semi-complete plug that you no longer have time for, heaven forbid, that someone else will pick up and complete, it makes their lives a lot easier if they have a good resource of what's been done and what has yet to be done, and all sorts of other helpful tid bits.

My personal technique has five documents running concurrent to all work that I do. A progress log, a companion to the progress log, a story board, a bug list, and a to-do list. My system takes a lot of time to use and isn't very effective for most people, but for me it's a life saver since I can keep track of everything that is going on and can readily pick up a plug I haven't worked on in a long time.

    • 11b) Addendum to: keep an outline of what you're doing (tip 11).
When you're just starting, make a list of ships, weaps and outfs that you're going to use and give them a resedit number. The list won't limit you, as you can still add things to the end off the list and there's never a reason for resources to be in a certain order. However, it helps a lot if you can design complete ships when the ships aren't finished yet, when you can put in your spobs without having to detail every planet type first, etc. etc.
