    • As Good As Mechanisto(possibly) gets

Well, not as good as the Mechanisto Masterรค, but not bad considering.

These pics are part of my lead in to the plug-in I'm doing. The "lead in" is a story told in pictures about the events leading up to the plugs scenario. I've just started and expect to finish sometime in early January. All I'll say about the story for now is to give a brief explanation of each picture.

      Picture 1: (url="http://"http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/talaria/the_sad/The_Sad____At_Nom_Hathora_.jpg") "Shakedown at Nom'Hathora"(/url)

This ship, known as the "Gwathong", is entering the final stages of its Shakedown Cruise. Though very large, this Ruun vessel is not only capable of atmospheric flight, but is quite nimble at it as well.

      Picture 2: (url="http://"http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/talaria/the_sad/The_Sad____Rendevous_.jpg") "Rendevous at Mars"(/url)

This one shows that same ship just after the shakedown cruise. It is meeting up with a Naaxian vessel to help the Humans retake the planet from the Cou'duon Heritik, a large, spaceborne lifeform that was genetically engineered by the Crai' to attack Human worlds. (Oh, and the Naaxian ship( the one close to Mars ) isn't as big as it looks. It is about 24,000km away from the planet.)

      Picture 3: (url="http://"http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/talaria/the_sad/The_Sad____Rescue_.jpg") "Rescue From Tubrux"(/url)

Here is a small Naaxian scout ship, searching a methane-choked planet Tubrux V for escape pods that went this way after a battle with the Crai'. This scout class, known as a Eirndin, is the only Naaxian vessel capable of these excursions.

      Picture 4: (url="http://"http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/talaria/the_sad/The_Sad____Sabotage_.jpg") "Sabotage!"(/url)

All Naaxian ships are armed with the powerful Singularity Cannon as their main defense. In this case, a saboteur(likely a Crai' sympathizer) has reversed the shield polarity, causing the opposite reaction of the ship hitting its own shields, severely damaging many external systems. The saboteur was found, and ejected from the nearest airlock.

Well, that's it for now, though I'll likely post a few more here before moving on to building the actual site.

Tell me what you think, and if you've figured out anything about the plotline. ๐Ÿ™‚

(EDIT): F*cking Angelfire ! I almost forgot how anal they are. I'm setting up a thumbnail page. 'Til then, you'll have to type in the url.(And, of course, I'm moving those pictures somewhere else.)(/EDIT)

    • Uh, dang. Those are really really good. I assume the plain metal texture was intentional and not simply a lack of texturing...

Do tell me, though, a few things:
      1. Were those landscapes Terragen or Bryce or other? If terragen, what'd you run it on? Do you have a PC and a Mac, or do you have a (drool) Mac version?
      2. I love the lighting...I need to learn lighting...how do you do it?
      3. Were those SFX Mechanisto? (eg. the beam, shields, glows around lights...) Or were they pshopped in?

Well, I would say that was Mechanisto to the max...I wouldn't have guessed those were Mechanisto. Great work!

/me goes off plotting to make a few cool scenes like those, maybe, if I get the time...
      -Weep@school, on a darn PC...

      ------------------

    • Wow! I guess it's my turn to ask for help. Mind sendin me those models? For looking art and experimenting only...

You owe me yo...I sent you the Naboo Fighter...remember...;)

      PEACE YO!

    • I'd say you did a phenominal job. It's as good as the Star Trek models we got from network artists. I took one look and thought "I want him!"

The main reason I came reading this post, however, was to talk to Weepul (long time no see) to say something along the same lines. I need some artistic wing. At the moment, we have our hands full getting everything organized. With the talent both of you guys have shown, it'd be murder if I didn't ask you guys to help us with the Ares to EVO plug-in.

We need about 10 more original ships from Ares reproduced from scratch (don't worry, the others are already accounted for), and as many civ ships as you care to imagine.

Write me if you're interested: (url="http://"mailto:Jonathan@Woodburn.cc")mailto:Jonathan@Woodburn.cc(/url)Jonathan@Woodburn.cc

    • Well guys, I hope that Angelf*ck isn't giving you too much trouble(it doesn't seem to be).

Weepul , yes. The "plain metal texture" as you call it was intentionally flat. Not all ships have to be texture to death to look good, i think. Well.....Okay, on the first one(Gwathong), it was intentional, on the others it was just laziness(and Mechanisto always mangled them all up anyway). Anyone who has used Mech alot knows that, when it comes to doing bumps and transparencies, Mechanisto moves like a slug. I mean, it takes long in most programs, but in Mech, it's like waiting in line at the DMV.

A Mac Terragen(drool), I do not have. But they were done in Terragen(the landscapes). Unfortunately, I do have a PeeCee. ๐Ÿ˜„ But just the l-scapes. Everything else is Mac.
And, although all the FX were eventually pshopped in, I did have to do a lot of compositing.

As far as "Mechanisto to the Max", well, that's half right. The model itself(the lights, engine lights, shape, etc.) did require a lot of patience. This is Mechanisto we're talking about. But alot of other programs were required to give it that theatrical look I was going for. You'll probably agree the ship wouldn't have been as appealing without the extra eye-candy.

Kwanzar , yes I owe you. Though I honestly never thought I'd be in the position to have to repay ;). I'll send you the model as soon as I'm finished with it(in about 4-5 days). But I'll ask in advance that you consider not distributing it further.

Hey Zeta, I can't say I remember much of you, but the name's familiar. And, thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚

And Weepul, I've got to know about engine glows you use. Cold Blood used the same amazing technique. Tell me about it.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, or what image...but what I usually do for engine glows is a simple spherical light in Infini-D (my 3d prog) and tell it to glow...

    • drool

      love them all ๐Ÿ™‚
especially that 3 one... (the rescue thing), though it looks kinda like the Queen's ship from StarWars ep1.
And the last one looks a lot like Star Trek ๐Ÿ™‚

      really, really cool stuff...
how big a download is the plug going to be?
