    • Little problem with Retribution


      Some of you may have heard of the plug I have made called Retribution (web site (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/dsghosh/evosite/retribution.html")here(/url)) that I'm currently testing. Unfortunately, I've run into a problem with the very first mission that prevents me from testing the rest of the plug. In the mission, which you get at Outpost Sigma, you are supposed to go to a system (DSN-4420) and investigate reports of a Voinian fleet. Your UE escorts appear just fine, but the auxiliary ships, the Voinian fleet, don't show up at all.

      I've put this one mission into a plug-in file that is available at (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/dsghosh/pv")http://www.andrew.cm...user/dsghosh/pv(/url) . In the file list, this file is titled "retrprobmisn.bin". Also, if you don't have a pilot file handy with the UE missions done, there's also a plug in the same folder titled "skipuemisn.bin" that includes just one mission, available anywhere, that sets all the required mission bits for the problem mission and gives you enough money to upgrade your ship sufficiently. Also, in the folder, the file "SCW 1.0.bin" is the (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/dsghosh/evosite/scw.html")Super Crescent Warship(/url) plug, in which the incredible SCW is available anywhere for free, so that you can use it for testing and don't have any problems with fuel or anything like that while doing so. You can use the plug in the game or play with it in ResEdit--whatever. Just if you manage to find the problem or fix the plug, please e-mail me a copy so I can proceed with testing.       Hmm, problem. However, you did it wrong. If you want to check a fleet or something, make the Voinian ships in the 'Special Ship' field, and put in 'Observe Ships (can't remember Res-Edit value -- sorry)'. Then make the UE escorts as aux ships. The bug I can't fix, but that's what you're meant to do. The aux ships are just ships to come into the system for good (and essential) effect, but have nothing to do with the actual mission (like being destroyed, observed, boarded ect.). Try it.

      All right, I'll go home and fix that. I hope that this is the problem... Shouldn't be hard to fix. And the ResEdit value for observing is 4, I believe. 🙂

    • Nope, Gav, that's not it. I just got home and checked. I said it wrong in my first post; the auxiliary ships are a few UE warships, and the mission ships are the no-show Voinian fleet. Someone can always try downloading it to see what the problem is... 😉

    • I've got your answer, I'm guessing you started doing this before EV0 1.02 was out, let me explain, as far as I can tell your mission is fine, if you are going to the wrong system I don't know since I changed those to save myself testing time and also made it require no mission bits, I assume you have those worked out. The problem I found was that your mission is fine, but check your dude resource, id 237 has an error, in 1.02 matt added mission bit fields to dude resources, and you had them all set to 0, and 0 is a bit you can set, so I changed them to -1 and it worked. You might want to check your other dudes too, they are all probably set to 0 since resedit automatically fills in 0's for new fields.

      Okay. I did, and without actually playing it and just looking at how it's programmed, I'd point to your Voinion Fleet Dude as the problem child. You have all four MissionBit Fields set to "0". I believe that you want those four fields to be set to "-1" unless you're sure that MissionBit "0" gets set prior to this mission becoming available and even then, requiring a MissionBit for all four ship types is probably overkill; those fields are more useful for having new ships turn up in existing dudes after the Player's caused some mission-related changes.

      Give that a try and see if the mission works. If it doesn't, I'll look further.
