Ambrosia Garden Archive
    • Impressions?

I have a grand idea of trying to add something to every Ambrosia game I can. I was wondering what you guys think of the editor, and how you like it, and if it is usable or a piece of mind numbing difficulty. πŸ™‚

    • MASCOT is only useful when you know how to use it. At first I was making just a few test worlds, and now I'm just about as skilled with it as everyone else who uses it, or at least I think so. I've been beginning to memorize what each info field does, without looking it up in the readme or something.

    • Yes, I agree: MASCOT is a totally useless pile of crap until you sit down to figure it out. I mean come on, how much sense does this make:

      Quote

      MASCOT Read-me:
**(25): range of top to scroll
      (26): scroll speed
      (27): chapter screen number
(28): chapter screen scroll info, 0 for no scroll

      SIGNS
(0): Index of string in STR# resource 500 to display.

      RETRACTABLE SPIKES
      (0): NOTHING
      (1): Ticks on
      (2): Ticks off
      (3): Starting tick

      CRUNCH TILES
      Type:
      0. Regular
      1. 3 Hits**

Some of the stuff in there isn't included in the normal read-me since I added it myself ;). After I have learned the dark inner secrets of MASCOT it has become quite functional as an editor. Perhaps the difficulty of the editor is what has kept thousands of crappy world sets from sprining up, weeding out the stupid ones with no work to the Ambrosia commmunity...now if I could just figure out how to upload ;). A lot of my read me file has been changed by me as I learn where it lies

      9: destroy this sprite permanently

      1st Door (44)*

Better stop there πŸ˜‰ Now if you only knew what the phrase 1st Door means...how many doors are there to choose from? Or does that mean that should be your first door to enter...then what of 44? Hmm....looks like you'll just have to wait and see... πŸ™‚

Dr. Tall says: Taller is Better
They say that you should date a younger woman...perhaps they should have been more specific. Does 13 hours count?

    • MASCOT is fine, and it isn't as hard as Dr Tall wants you to think.
He's just trying to stifle competition. (I'd do the same thing in his place! :))

      ------------------
Measuring energy in kilowatt-hours is as stupid as measuring distance in knot-seconds.

    • And you have to remember that MASCOT was intended to be used only by 1 person...the guy who created it. When I create software for my eyes only, I don't go out of my way to document it. The easiest solution. Heck, if I created it, I'd remember it.

    • MASCOT needs an update. The amount of effort per level is to great. I was of high opinion of my levels, Dr. Tall, but I stopped because of the amount of time it took. I always believed in quality over quantity. Aschaaf had some great ideas for redoing the level editor. He posted a picture of his visions once. I would recommend that you ask him for assistance. It would be even better if he could have the orginal MASCOT code to work on. Imagine MASCOT with real GUI.

Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square.

And Paste PICT as BG Tiles, space-bar scrolling, "Show velocity" (1/256th pixel/frame a'int very intuitive!), The ability to write conversations in BASIC or C, Auto-fill, and much, much more... πŸ™‚

However, it would only be given to members of the OBW project. πŸ˜„ πŸ˜‰

    • This is why I was originaly campaigning for the source code to be released. Programers could add features to it. But, why am I complaining? I should be happy with what I have. And I thank Ambroisa for releasing it.

Yeah. I remember campaining for it's release with you.
I even said I'd wear my Habnabit costume at MWNY '01 if that was the only way they'd release it.
