      Congratulations Weepul884! 🙂

      and...

      Ambrosia's Choice:

      Here's the official word:

"While Ambrosia appreciates the skill and design (the radial symmetry is nice) evident in the Caekela Cruiser,
nostalgia and excellent technical rendering causes us to give the nod to the X-Wing. It's an extremely well-done
model, the detail rendering is excellent, and the nostalgia of Star Wars tugs at our heart-strings."

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this competition. The standard was extremely high, and the vote ran very
smoothly. Lets have another one, perhaps with different criteria, in 2001.

      Cheers

    • Yay! I'm surprised that I got both first and runner-up...

Many thanks to all who voted for me! And, congrats to all other entrants, there were some good-looking ships in there! And, of course, doing anything in 3D is an accomplishment.

Hey Slav, which ship(s) were yours? For that matter, who did which? Rodger/Ralph, are you going to release the creators of all the ships? I'd especially like to know who made the Avalonean BC and TriCon Venture LRT...

      Again, thanks! I'm honored.

      🙂 🙂 🙂

Yeah, I agree - could you reveal the names of the ships' creators?

I did Berkut Cruizer and Zarya Transport. As I said in the coments my mapping skills are not good at all. I don't really like Infiny-D and don't use it much. Though I've got Shade R4 recently, which is really good 3D programme and planning to learn it as soon as I can. The problem is that I have only Japanese manual for it and don't really wonna read it.
I really liked your ships guys. And your cruiser Weepul is just beautiful. If you did it in Infiny-D (I don't think so), I would really appreciate it if you could send me you original Infiny-D file. I just want to understand the way how you do all this beautifull mapping.
      Best regards

    • If anyone cares to know, the Spikefish Squadron and the oh-so-imaginatively-named Alien Ship were mine. Done in POV-Ray and Bryce, respectively, w/ photoshop for stars and some image assembly stuff.

Well, I did do it in Infini-D. I'm thinking about sending it...I'm often reluctant to give out the actual models for stuff...call me paranoid if you wish. 😉

The base texture was made by fatalin.tycho AKA Onyx. The semi-logo on each of the pods was made in Photoshop. I'm getting more into making object-specific maps. I simply get a view of the object (usually in the spline editor, using one of the views set to orthographic, or whichever doesn't use perspective) and import it into PShop, then paint away.

Oh, and feel free to try to beat me next time...I like the challenge!

      ------------------

    • Well, for the record, I entered the Minbari cruiser on the last day. Damn close call...anyways, it's built in Mechanisto like all of my ships, but IMO, I gave this ship poor lighting and the textureing wasn't my best. I could have done better...so you're lucky this time weepul...;) I did vote for the Caekela Cruiser too...=)

      PEACE YO!

Heh, the only 3D program I can use with any degree of success is Bryce 3D, which isn't really intended for making starships.

That's the best I can do.

True, but I've managed some really impressive stuff w/ it. The Alien Ship was one of the simpler critters I've done in Bryce. Bryce is great for terrains; what many people forget is that terrains don't have to be used as a landscape...

Oh, and you should have entered that thing. It looks really nice.
