    • programming advice?

This isn't specifically related to EV/O, but I was hoping to get some advice on learning programming languages.

Specifically I'm interested in learing how to make simple, arcade style games...mainly for myself.

Long ago I knew basic, but the only pseudo-languages I know now are HyperTalk and AppleScript.

Ideally I'd like to find some resource that would give me example code. I learn better from screwing around with examples than walking through tutorials.

      Any advice?

    • At last! Someone who uses puncuation and breaks...you have earned my respect, i hope to see you around.

I recomend that you download REALbasic from (url="http://"http://www.realsoftware.com")www.realsoftware.com(/url) . It's a great programme with a very handy tutorial (even though you don't like using them).

If you're after source code, then you shoudl try searching at (url="http://"http://www.search.com")www.search.com(/url) . You can get suff like Doom and Quake 1 free, but some programmers make you pay for the privaledge(sp?) of using their code.

Also, if you've got $30 (if your american, I'm not) then I recomend you buy the "Mac Programming for Dummies 3rd edition" book from (url="http://"http://www.amazon.com")www.amazon.com(/url) Amazon, it's a very good book that teaches you the basic elements of C/C++ and you get Codewarrio LE (a professional programming enviroment free on the CD).

    • Necromicon-

Thanks for the kudos and the advice. You'll probably see me around off and on as I've been working on an EVO related project for a while, and swing by the board when I've hit a wall and need some advice.
