    • EVO Developer's Map

I have begun the quest of recompiling EVO Developer's Map in futurebasic^3. It will take a while, but fb^3 can compile ppc code, and I may even squish some bugs along the way.

    • Cool. Will you add any new features?

That's already possible with the current version...

Select one system and either choose "Edit Spobs" from the "System" menu, or press the enter key. The enter key only works on the latest version (I think), which you can get from:

    • To add:

I would like to see the ability to add custom landing pictures and sounds, and to preview the ones already in.

Also, a feature to export and import all of the Spob and Syst resources into another format.

But, hey, it's already a great tool. Keep up the great work.

As you wish. I'm expanding the loading functions to support extra files anyway.

That may be more suitable to put in a separate tool. What format do you want to export them to, anyway?

    • Maybe you should update EV Developer's Map so it can edit spobs. People still make plug-is for EV, as strange as it may sound to you...

    • Could you make an English version? Learning a new language would be nice, but not everybody has the time. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • It looks like it's in english to me...what are you on about? Perhaps you have an earlier version? Or is something VERY weird here?

Also, Pontus, could you add sometihng resembling a random names capability? Personally I can think up names, but after a few hundred you start to lose all your ideas.

Probably. I don't know if I downloaded anything except the first version he realeased. I don't think he mentioned the change, so I didn't think he had. Sorry.

The source code for EV Developer's Map has been lost. There's not much I can do about it.

    • A likely story. You're just too lazy.

Seriously though (I was joking), could you possibly tell me how you were able to make such a perfect EV editor where others have failed? (with the exception of Jeremy Condit and his marvellous Schmelta-V.)

I'm making EVO Devmap work with both EVO and EV files instead. Good enough?

"where others have failed"... And exactly how many others have tried making a map only editor? ๐Ÿ™‚
I guess it's because I actually enjoy coding.

Tab delimited format, for a database.

I must admit I have no experience with databases, but from the sound of it you want something like this:

Sol -1,-1 Confederation Earth Stardock Alpha Luna Mars etc.

      Am I right?

    • Exactly right - the fields in their order (or, hey, any order) separated by any separator (could be tabs for fields, enters for new records, or anything really). And a way to import them again using exactly the same sequencing.

Your text export/import utility is the inspiration for this request.

I've got Filemaker Pro Developer edition, and I want to import all of the Map information into a database (so that I can export it again after playing around with it), and also put a freecopy of the database up on the add-ons pages as the long-awaited Frozen Heart developers kit. I could also put up a database version of the Standard EVO universe, if there was interest.

The benefit is that the whole thing is instantly searchable. So, say, if I'm making a plug-in in Schmelta V, and I think 'where was that planet that had the Gurgleweeds?', I just search the database for Gurgleweeds and out it pops.

What I haven't figured out how to do is to turn resources into stuff that databases can read.
