Hey, I'm having trouble finding the Messera guy in Perugo forest. I've found the cave just east of the inn, and have wandered all through the crypts. But I've found no one down there but undead guys. Can someone tell me where to find Messera? Thanks.

Head south in the crypt. And there's a button that you have to walk over in order to open a gate to get to Mesera. Look on the floor, SE corner.

You'll end up killing a bunch of thieves, then you'll find an item, I think it's a scroll. Just take it back to that chick in fantrima to translate the scroll.

Thats because you're too much of an 'ol softey. 
Waaaay back at the beginning of the game, when you went on the quest for the druid
to recover his book, if you paid the thief for the book then the Lightbreeze guild
is friendly towards you.
If however you chose to kill the thief, well, that thief was Messera's brother. And
if you killed him then the guild is hostile and will attempt to kill you.
Either way you can still learn the awareness skill. Either Messera is nice and teaches
it to you, or he tries to kill you and you can find the scroll in a chest and take
it back to Mary Kristina and she will teach you a trick or two.
My character prefers getting tricks from Mary Kristina than from Messera. Heh.

yeah, especially since youre better off by killing mesera's brother. if you buy the book from him, you lose 50 gold. however, if you kill him, you dont lose any gold but you gain 60 experience, and then you can kill the guys in the lightbreeze guild which will give you more experience.
