      Arrggghh!!

While it's a great plug-in, I have encountered a problem: the Vorlon Empire.
Some of you might know it as a hyperjump link that doesn't seem to connect to anything, but after buying a map nearby the system beyond becomes visible. And, when jumped into, there does not seem to be a way back! Does anyone know how to get out of that cursed place?

    • I don't think there is a way back -- it's a fatal trap.

My suggestion: hang your head, then allow yourself to cheat. If you don't have a saved pilot file to fall back to, edit one of the Vorlon systems' "syst" resources in the "Babylon 5 Plug-in v2.1 (a)" file to add a link back to a system outside Vorlon space.

    • You're quite copiously warned about the dangers of going in there - there is no way of returning without editing the data files.

    • Har. I did the same thing. It's always best to make a quick copy of your pilot file BEFORE doing something stupid. What? Like Mazca said, you were warned.

Oh, and there are a few bugs in the game, like missions not ending when completed.

      Good luck.

    • Damn! Ah well. maybe I'll test my kestrel's limits on the Vorlons to act out my anger.

      Umm, when was I warned?

    • No ship has ever returned from Vorlon space...

    • I might as well ask another question about B5 that just came up. Is it possible to join the Shadow Empire? So far, the only way I can think of getting on to their planet is dominating it, but somehow I imagine that that wouldn't exactly make them want me on their side. So, is it possible to get on their planet another way? Is there some thing I have to do make them like me? And if so do they even have a mission string?

    • I believe you were warned about the Vorlons in the plug readme docs (can't remember).

FYI, when a hyperlink just ends and does not connect to a system, that usually means a mission bit is required to be set to open the link. Like in all the Empire plugs... Tim Isles adds special systems that have hyperlinks that don't seem to go anywhere. You can jump into them at any time, but you cannot return, at all, unless you complete the mission that sets the bit to open the hyperlink, which you need to complete BEFORE you go into that system. Best not jump into them unless you are told to, or you back up your pilot file beforehand.

No, you can't join the Shadow Empire.

Nothing you do will make them like you, they attack you the moment you hyper into their systems. If you can land on their planet w/o cheating, do tell.

There is a future mission that involves them, but no missions for them.

    • Ahh, yes. It does warn to back up pilots. I thought you meant a specific warning about the Vorlons.

    • Yes, there is a specific warning about them. I just don't remember where I read it, it's been over a year since I played B5. 🙂

Well, I managed to land on their planet by dominating it with a Narn cruiser, and it was a complete waste of time. Only one thousand credits a day, and no special stuff.

Nice job. I found the only way to explore their systems was in a fast ship with lots of shields, and hyper out as soon as I jump in.

There is one, maybe two other Shadow planets up there. Did you dominate them as well?

EDIT: Oooh, lookie what I found in the B5 Documentation:

What the heck!? I jumped into a Vorlon system and I can't get back out!
Standard operating procedure for the Vorlons, and a slight mean streak on our part. Of course, this documentation was here all along. Other warnings of possible consequences when entering Vorlon space can be found during play, and beacons bordering Vorlon space warned you to turn back. If you took a mission that completed on a Vorlon world... whew, you should've known better!

Still, you can recover from this easily, so long as you followed our suggestion of backing up your pilot files regularly as you play; just open the last backup outside of Vorlon space and continue playing from there. Even better, if you didn't actually land on a Vorlon world, you can simply reload the pilot file you were using.
