    • question about guns and turrets

Its been a long time since ive played EVO and my memory has failed me. im playing the EVO mod for EVN on windows. when i finally got a nice ship i realized that i couldnt utilize all of my gun and turret slots! for example: if my ship can hold a max of 3 guns and 3 turrets why will it only let me equip a total of 3 guns OR turrets? i baught my lazira and was severely dissapointed that my arada could hold more total weapons! was it always like this? or is the windows version messed up? cuz i want 3 guns AND 3 turrets!!!!!!!!!

thanks for any help you can muster....even if it does dissapoint me 😛

    • It's a feature, added to the original EVO in one of the updates. I think there may be a plugin to count guns and turrets as separate, but I've never used one.

    • I believe this was added in EVO 1.0.2, where turrets were made to take up gun slots as well. It took away (and probably appropriately so) my ability to equip my Arada with more firepower than a Crescent Warship (decking it out w/turrets and swivel guns).

Welcome to the boards, by the way. Out of curiosity, is your name a reference to Black Hawk Down?

    • Actually yes it is a reference to blackhawk down. as for the guns and turrets thing....i wish i would have kept my arada than....if it holds more guns. i guess the lazira aint all that, huh? well, which ships do you guys like for starting out? after robbing voinion supply ships for a little while i baught a freight courier...with three blaze turrets and a few hunters....it sucks...just one voinian frigate can give me a heck of a time. sure, im not so great at this game but i dont have any outfits available to me yet...i cant even find the last paaren station delivery!

come on, help the newb.....you know you want to!

I've always liked the Freight-courier - compared to the Arada it has way more weapons space and can take three turrets, which is all important when you can't max both turrets and guns as you've found out :).

The F-c is a two-day jump ship but most things don't need a one-day one. It can take on Voinian ships, but I would tend to take it into the Crescent first and do a little fighting - probably even down by the South Tip fighting Renegades, with 3 Phase Turrets equipped (I'm not a secondary weapon kind of guy) so you don't have to choose a strand just yet. Also IMO that is the most fun part of the galaxy.

As for the Paaren Station missions, if you've done about 4 or 5 basic 'UE: Delivery to Paaren Station' missions, you will then get the final one, which gives you a really nice big escort, from Knox in the Mestor. It can be fun to just keep that mission active and take your UE Destroyer escorts to go and kill lots of Voinians - you can even use it in the Dreadnought mission!

    • i did get that last paaren station one. i think the problem was i ran some brandy and got criminal status the system paaren station is in. using the escorts for other sorts of fun stuff is amusing.... id like to see how the do against other alien ships. one more thing that sucks about the EVO mod for EVN is that when a mission is suppost to gift me a piece of equipment like the plasma syphon or the needle jammer...it doesnt give it to me for some reason. next question: which secondary weapon is the best? persuit missles? SAE's? i know it aint hunters or human rockets...although they pack a punch...

Your legal status in Valos shouldn't have messed anything up as regards the mission; you just might not be able to land on the station later on so easily, to get the nice new outfits :).

I know there are problems with EVO on Nova, which is a real shame. For a start, you can never get delivery missions to systems that can change during the course of the game, e.g. Verril. I haven't got far enough with it yet to see the other problems you mention there, but that sucks....

As for the 'best' secondaries, the whole brilliance of EVO is that there is no best :). Basically the weapons you get in UE space are good against enemies of the UE (Hunter Missiles / Rockets are good vs. armour, hence Voinians; Needle Missiles are good in interference, hence good for the Renegades; all secondaries in the Crescent are good vs. shields, hence good for everyone in the crescent. SADs/SAEs were messed up in the 1.0.2 update but they're still fun. Dispersal rockets are pretty good provided you miss the blast radius; pursuit missiles are mainly used in systems with asteroids and in my experience most of them tend to hit those rather than the intended target.

Overall, I far prefer close range primary weapon battles - so really just being better than the ship you're fighting. But I would say the Plasma Siphon is a very good secondary weapon - it takes up no space, it's effective and easy to use and it while it takes fuel to use, it recharges your fuel over time as well!
