just some thoughts, not too serious

EV Nova now has a card game version, so that we can play with our friends in a way we could never do in-game, as it would be too difficult to create a networkable EV universe. What about a similar idea for EVO. How similar? Well instead of a card game - how about a MMORPG? No not like a an online game where u can fly around in a ship and fight other players - this has the same difficulty as networkable EVO. What I mean is a turn based, text-based strategy game. Each player would be able to choose from one of 3 governments: United Earth, Voinians, or Miranu. That player would then assume the role of governor/general, having to research technology, build huge fleets of military ships, setup their trading fleets expand, colonise systems and war other players to gain power. Resources would come from how many planets you control etc.

Here is an example of a fantasy style game which works somewhat like this, which is made entirely using php forms and databases, with text and still images used for the interface:
      http://www.the-reincarnation.com
http://www.the-reinc...com/startup.php <----- This tells somewhat how the gameplay works

How would a game like this be balanced? Would it be best to only use Miranu, UE and Voinians or could people play as Azdgari or renegades? Would anyone like to play a game like this?

    • This has been done before, though it was chiefly forum based. The problem was while some had one of these qualities, no one had both the technical ability AND the motivation/time to set up actual automated scripts to drive the gameplay. Still, the EVO RPG went on for a quite a while before dying off, and judging from the traffic this board gets nowadays, I wouldn't expect any reincarnation to do too well (maybe if you based one off a plug-in?).

    • No, I'm talking about the EVO RPG that involved having fleets and stats and moving them around the galaxy and stuff -- the writing was more minimal. In short, a forum-based RPG, not a webstory with RPG characteristics.

    • not forum based. have a look at the links I put in for a good example of the kind of format I mean.

    • If Xenocide3k1 was still around, I'd point you to that. However, there hasn't been a round in a long time.
