    • General Cade Smart: "You said earlier you would implement many of my ideas. Do you know which of my ideas you make yet? I cant make 3D graphics, but I could spellcheck or betatest it once testing of F-25 is over. If school doesnt take too much time, that is."

Reply below- ideas of yours in more detail:

"Make UE contact Miranu asking for their tech..."

Eventually, in exchange for raw material aid for the Zachit, the Miranu will trade technology to the UE. You will be seeing major technological advances on the parts of both the UE and the Voinians.

"guided secondary weapons- extremely well guided (for Voinians)..."

The Voinians are getting some powerful new weapons (and ships)...

"Replace UE Fighters with Crescent Fighters that have a variant of Phase that is as powerful on armor as it is on shields...if you want to keep it more UE-like, grossly improve the Blaze Cannon..."

I have two or three new UE fighters planned (incorporating Crescent technology). Whether I will find a graphics developer willing to develop them remains to be seen. As well, the UE will be obtaining several new weapons (and capital ships)...

"UE contacted their other ally Emalgha to get their murderous on armor weapons..."

Although the Emalgha are in exile, the Emalghia resistance lives on, and will (eventually) be more than willing to cooperate with the UE...

"For the Miranu, patrol with heavier ships than Crescent Fighter and develop heavier than Miranu Gunship. Probably a Crescent Warship with improved amount of weapons, more fighters, more shields and more expandablity. "

The Miranu will be developing a real navy eventually (with real combat ships). I had an idea for a Crescent Warship variant but that would go to the North Tip Renegades.

"For Adzgari, put Enchanched Azdaras in mass production, meaning that you can see them in a system often and they could assist you in battle beyond just one mission in EVO..."

      Will be done.

"For Zidagar, make a new battlecruiser that doesnt get eaten up for lunch by Igazras. Make a new Phased Beam that doesnt drain fuel so fast so it is actually useful..."

The Zidagar will be getting more than just one new battlecruiser, and their short-range beam weapons will be seriously overhauled.

If you don't like what I'm doing with any of this, feel free to tell me. I can't read minds, so I need feedback.

As for beta-testing, I'd have to finish the plug first! But I will keep you in mind (esp. considering your prior experience).

On a side note, I was extremely impressed with the Cold Fusion graphics plug screenshots and graphics by Captain Skyblade. If he would be as willing to model just a few new ships, outfits, etc, I would be greatly honored to include his work in my plug-in.......

Any additional questions or comments are always welcomed.

      ------------------

    • I need a tentative name for this plug-in as I work on it (so I can have something besides 'my plug-in' to refer to. Post any suggestions you have (keeping in mind the plot and subject matter).

      Thanks!

    • Brainstorming:

      An Empire Divided
      Worlds Apart
      A New Alliance
      Foreign Affairs
      Fatal Alliance

Gah, those all suck. Be glad I took out the ones that really stunk.

I made a ship of my own in Photoshop, and even got it to work, about a year ago. Straight top down, nothing fancy, but if you get desperate I might be able to help.

Have you thought about using actual photos for planets etc? Just a thought.

    • Those aren't bad names at all...unless someone suggests something better I think I'll go with Fatal Alliance.

I have written the texts for about 10 or so more missions. Work is progressing rapidly.

Just curious, is there anyone else looking forwards to this? If you have any suggestions, I'd be more than glad to use them.

      ------------------

    • I'm definitely looking forward to it.

One question: How do two xenophobic governments end up allied? I discussed a couple of options for how this could happen with Solel, and I was wondering how it will be explained in your plug.

Anyway, I'll beta-test it whenever you get it done. I could also proofread the texts and descriptions you have so far. I might catch some minor error, I know I suck at proofing my own writing.

    • To explain the Igadzra-Voinian alliance, I'd suggest the following.

It's an alliance out of necessity, really. The Voinians and the Igadzra are both basically stuck in stalemates. The Voinian War rages with no end in sight. The same is true for the Strand War. So the two decide to work together to end that, because neither of them want that to go on any longer. The Voinians want to clear their reputation of losing the Battle of Sol, while the Igadzra want to end a war that has been going on for centuries.

However, staying with the logic regarding the cultures of the two species, I'd recommend that there's definitely the possibility of betrayal. The Igadzra trust almost no one. Even the Miranu are restricted from their space. Likewise, the Voinians are xenophobic. Every alien race they've encountered, they've tried to enslave.

You don't have to take my suggestion, but it is partly plausible as an explanation. I'm looking forward to the plugin, and I wish you luck in the development process.

      Peace,
      Solel

    • Solel's explanation is very logical- as well as the shared mindset, there is the factor of technology being shared. I will probably expound upon it a little bit as I work on the plug-in.

Hopefully, I'll be able to develop a personal story and a 'overall', galaxy-wide story that will tie into each other.

For anybody interested: I wrote this in about 10 minutes. It's a proposed rough draft introduction to the plug-in and will serve as an anchor for the story itself.

      ---------

For ten years, the deadlocked Second Voinian War dragged on, neither side able to break their enemy

From far away, humanity, united under the United Earth government and navy, sent their sons and daughters to fight and die in far-away systems, on far-away planets. The more fortunate moved up the naval hierarchy and became legends in their own right.

Your father was one of those men. From humble beginnings upon the streets of New Taranto, your grandfather, a poor munitions factory worker, raised him as an honest man of the highest integrity. When your father was nineteen, he joined the United Earth navy and graduated from the Academy with full honors.

He was a cunning tactician and commanded the absolute respect from the crew of the destroyer he piloted. Eventually, he became the commander of a fleet group. During the twilight of the First Voinian War, while humanity still clung on to the illusion of peace almost achieved an Empire almost defeated, he married and raised a family upon peaceful Saalia.

There were those who envied your father, who wanted nothing but to see him fall. And your father knew about them, but he never worried about them. As your father exposed corruption in the government using his high rank as safety, his enemies became many. However, even as the Second War began, he still loved his family and child greatly. Whenever he had the opportunity, he would pay them a visit, re-unite his brood.

And then one day they came

During one of his rare visits home, during the night, the United Earth Secret Service smashed open windows and broke into your residence. The secret operatives, dressed in their black uniforms, beat, then frog-marched your father into their waiting vehicle. Your mother, who your father had locked into a closet, was dragged out and ruthlessly stabbed over and over again, with a metal stake. You survived only because you were sleeping very quietly in your upper-level bedroom, which they did not bother to search

The only relic you retained from that night was a note from your mother that you found in her pocket, speckled with blood and scribbled upon the back of a slip of paper your mother found in the closet.

“My son, no matter what happens to your father and I, we wanted you to remember this: there is one who will never leave you, one who made you, and He is the one who will guide and protect you.”

Your name became mud among your former classmates, your possessions confiscated by the government. You were forced to learn at an early age that those who opposed what the UE fought for were not limited to those who had pledged their loyalty to Voinia in blood, or those who plundered the wrecks of innocent vessels in the galactic south.

Fortunately, there are those who seek to end such atrocities in the government, to expunge the UE leadership of corrupt and selfish officials. They surreptitiously told you what you already knew, that the official government alibi accusing your father of being a traitor to the Voinians, was false. They also told you that your father’s abductors had delivered him to the Gorky renegades, in apparent retaliation for exposing certain connections between Stellar Corp, key UE Shipping officials, and the renegades. Although all those you talked to believed your father to still be alive, the UE fleet could not spare even one ship to undertake the dangerous journey, to raid the planet and retrieve him, as the Voinian war raged furiously during that time.

Through studious education and divine providence, you were able to be certified as a pilot and starship captain, to overcome some of the stigma that had become inextricably attached to you after that horrible night. By hard work and divine providence, you were able to purchase a small shuttlecraft after you graduated, long hours toiling away at a shipyard supplementing the one bank account that your father had opened for you, that the corrupt architects of your father’s disappearance had not frozen.

Ominous signs, whispered rumors, unconfirmed sightings from the Voinian border- the harbingers of a renewed conflict manifest themselves. As for you, you seek to clear your wrongly maligned name, to avenge your father, and to discover a destiny for yourself among the stars and the galaxy

      ----

If you actually bothered to read all that, feel free to comment upon it. Remember, most of the storyline will be based upon it anyways, so if it sucks , I want to be able to improve it.

      Thanks

there are some more grammar problems and things that might not, as mazca said, blend well with matt's and peter's styles of writing, but they can be fixed later.

overall, i'm impressed. i hope your commitment to this sticks, it looks like one of the best plugs i'll play.

i mess around with 3d editors, i might buy infinid soon. if i maintain my current fascination, i'd be more than happy to help you with ships. i haven't made any yet, still workin on it (also working on getting a g3 or g4 in a week or two), but i expect that i should be able to make some decent (not incredibly super wonderful godlike) creations. email me steelsfx@netscape.net or whatever if you're interested. i'd also love to help beta test, spell check, debug, help with scenarios (although you seem to have it down) and be a basic sounding board.

      ------------------

    • I like the intro text. I would have told the story without directly saying "you" to the gamer, but it's good. One thing though: The note should have He and One capitalized, if you're talking abou the Judeo-Cristian God. I'm pretty sure that's how you treat any pronoun referring to Him.

Looks like you got some 3D sprite help, perhaps. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the beta. Don't fail us!

EDIT: Changed intentional typo, because I'm not being mean to fist anymore.

Yes, your assumption is correct. I will fix the grammatical errors and such later.

I have also rewritten quite a few mission texts in order to better reflect a storyline (as opposed to just 'now that the Voinians believe you are a defector from the UE, disable a supply ship passing through (so and so system) and recover the Voinian weaponry prototypes').

I expect to complete writing mission texts in 45-60 days. After that, I will ask several volunteers to proofread and edit the texts. When that is completed, preliminary coding will begin, as well as any graphics design needed. After everything is completely implemented, the plug-in will go into beta-testing phase. From now to beta-testing should be about 3 months. After that, the plug will be released. Hopefully, people will download and play the plug, and enjoy it. If they do, I'll probably ask someone to port it to Nova for me...

Suggestions? Comments? I enjoy each and every one. Tell me what you're thinking.

      ------------------

    • I need some people to do some preliminary proofing of what I have down so far. (The texts for about 35 or so missions, as well as the intro). I would like people willing to give me constructive input, not just 'this text sucks' or 'this is alright', suggestions for improvement and revision would be appreciated. I know that there were some already who were interested, but if you are still interested, please email me or post here.

I have been inspired. What I have existing right now will soon increase in depth and feeling, and decrease in shallow forced writing...

      ------------------

    • I can spot any typos (spelling errors) or grammar errors easy. But if I have to tell how to improve the text, thats much harder. Bombs F-25 is the first plug-in I ever beta-tested, and I never had to tell how to improve the text, just typos. So provided that I dont have to improve texts if that is too difficult after first try, I can check em. Tom.Runeberg@kolumbus.fi

    • I'm going to be unavailabke for a while. I may check here once in a while, but for the most part, I'll be busy putting my car together. I'm about halfway through the texts, and I'll try to get them back with all my comments in a bit. Probably about a week.
