    • Comment and a Question on "Frozen Heart"

I own EV and EVN. I don't own EVO...yet. I find it pretty challenging, which usually is a good thing, but it seems to me that the AI ships (particularly the Renegade ones) are so much more powerful than any ship I've gained access to. It frustrates me as I end up getting killed dozens of times, or bribe Renegades with any money I have. I even cranked the game speed down to 75%, thinking that might help. It didn't. :frown:
This isn't a game, it's an exercise in futility.

However, today I was actually doing fairly well. But I think I "reincarnated" myself about 10 times (reloading the pilot file's become almost second-nature now, I think)...still not good. I thought I might find some helpful tips here on the web board, and I did.

What interested me the most were some people talking about the "Frozen Heart" plug-in. I used the link someone (sorry, can't remember who it was) posted and read the blurb on the Ambrosia plug-in page. Over 6 megs of gaming fun? Sounds like a plan...

So here's the question -- the blurb mentions the plug-in being for EVO, but then makes a vague reference to the original EV. So does that mean the plug-in can be utilized by -both- EV and EVO, or just EVO? If that's the case, then I could easily just download Frozen Heart and drop it into my copy of EV -- voila! 🙂

But if Frozen Heart's just for EVO, then I guess I'll register anyway and make EVO just a game for plug-ins. Maybe one of these days I'll be sharp enough -- and speedy enough -- to play the original EVO game.... :

    • i feel your pain about that futility thing, i have to take out voinian frigets, yet i cannot, even though i have a turncoat, a turncoat as an escort, and 4 helians, anything were mssing?

      shoot to kill?
      shoot to stop?
I say let loose the firepower and let fate decide

    • keep away from them and use missiles

    • I know a lot of EV/EVO/EVN players whose characters have ships with missiles of all sorts -- I'm just not that sort of player. I hate dealing with extra weaponry that eventually runs out. Besides, why should EVO be the only game of the three EV games that basically sets the player up for failure if he doesn't use missiles?

I've destroyed Manticores in EVN with my lasers/phasers/cannons/etc. -- no missiles needed. I've disabled (and boarded) Confederation Frigates in the original EV with just a lot of beam weaponry -- again, no missiles needed.

There has to be a way to do it. I can't be the only EVO player who doesn't want to use missiles.

(and my other question stands -- is Frozen Heart also for EV?)

    • voyage2k, It sounds like you need to do some exploring.... If you haven't found a ship called the "Arada" for sale, you need to find a route to the aliens beyond the empty systems encircling human space. There's more than Voinians out there!

It's highly unlikely that Frozen Heart will work with EV, by the way. It is a really good plug-in -- it's mostly a single storyline, but it's very different.

      Om Noppo Noppo Om!

    • Dr. Trowel -- you're absolutely right, I do need to do more exploring, particularly beyond the little bit of Voinian space I've explored so far. It's just that getting killed so often has really frustrated me. And you can't land on the Voinian planets (at least I can't) to save your place...so I'm retracing my steps -- over and over and over and over.... :frown:

I'm considering just staying for the time being within a few systems around Earth, see if I can pick up enough credits to either buy a better ship or hire some fighter escorts. I can't believe that EVO doesn't allow you to buy more than one shield regenerator (that cylinder-looking thing, I may have the name of it wrong). I have extra space for weapons and the like, but then I go to the outfitter and it tells me I can't have any more. :

(Note: I'm aware that certain weapons/outfits won't work with certain ship types, but I'm talking about things I should be able to get since I already have some on my ship already -- phase turrets and the like. Aargh.)

I guess I'll keep hammering away at trying to find a way past the Voinians.... 🙂

    • Actually, if I remember correctly, FH can be converted to run in the original EV. I think he mentioned something of that sort in the readme files...

I got Karma-slapped for this: "Laughs Maniacally" in reference to a peecee problem...

    • Well, if it can work in the original EV without too much difficulty, I might just do that. But if it's a lot of hardship to get it to work in EV, I'll just use EVO.

As I've chatted here some more and read some of the other posts people have made in this part of the web board, I'm somewhat tempted to just keep hammering away at EVO until I either get so frustrated that I just delete it, or I become somewhat successful (and then pay the registration fee -- I still have a few more days!). We shall see. Thanks! 🙂

    • Frozen Heart can be run using EV. Its sequel, Femme Fatale, cannot. There are both EV and EVO ports for EVN, but they cannot run their respective plugins (e.g. you would have to change any EVO or EV plugins for them to work with the EVN engine). It is theoretically possible to port Frozen Heart and Femme Fatale to EVN, but it would be somewhat time-consuming (not to mention the fact that you would have to get the permission of the author, Martin Turner).

So....if you play and really like Frozen Heart and want to play its sequel, you may want to register in order to play Femme Fatale, or you may just want to wait and see if the author ports them over to EVN. If you just want to play the stock scenario, it would be a better idea to just download the EVO port on the EVN add-ons page.

    • Jump north seven jumps from Saalia (Place with Brandy), You should find a planet called "Mira" land there and purchase a good ship.

Or go southeast from the Huron system, curve around the eastern edge of the nebula, through the human renegade system "Yelts", south two jumps to the cresent renegade system "Mavs" then go west two or three jumps and land on "South Tip Station" in the "Akrayek" system. (I might have the names of the two renegade systems mixed up)

WARNING:The cheapest, good ship that can be purchased at either of these locations is the Arada. The Arada costs 1 million credits, so this should only be done if you have 2 million credits.

    • You can beat voinians w/ UE fighters.. best i've ever taken out was a cruiser, just have a small, manuverable ship and dodge those purple shots.
also, deep in voinian space there are 2 planets, emalghia and kelamon (sp?). they've got weapons that are good against armor, but dont buy a ship there
