I cant figure out where to start any of the strings and have visited neumerous bars, anyplace where there are walkthroughs? (akin to the evn string walkthroughs linked from the ev-evo-evn survival guide)
edit and would using the windows port of evo plug (for EVN) have anything to do with it?

    • It could. You might want to run some of the more mundane missions and build up your combat rating, some strings depend on that.

Alternately, try a new pilot file.

    • I have a question for you. Exactly how did you get and img tag on your signature? If I recall correctly, UBB doesn't accept that.

Here's a walkthrough. (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~dsghosh/evosite/missions.html")Shayon's EVO Site(/url) has some guides for several of the mission strings, but does not seem to cover the Miranu, or any of the Strands (Azdgari, Igadzra, Zidagar).

So, I'll try to help you out with start locations and requirements and such for those. šŸ˜‰

The Miranu missions begin with the famous Diplomatic Relations mission. You go to Mira, the capital of the Miranu government in the Mirava system, and meet a member of the MTC, and then you take a message to Earth. (Incidentally, you must do this mission if you are to do the Strand central objective mission string.) It's a long run, so make sure you have plenty of fuel. (7-8 jumps' worth should do it.) Later on you can become a member of the Miranu trading conglomeration by doing a mission on Blaga.

The Strand central objective mission string can take one of three forms per pilot. You may only work for one Strand government, as the Strand War is three-way. When doing these, make sure you have a fast ship; there's a time limit on all the Strand recruitment missions, and you usually need a ship that can manage 1 jump/day to make it. Also, there's a combat rating requirement, so get a deadly or ultimate combat rating to make sure you get them. (Just blow up loads of Voinian ships to get a good combat rating. Even if you decide to work for them, they clear your record across their space once you join up with the Voinians.)

The Igadzra Strand missions start at Kitrak, in the Miranu systems. If you get text talking about purple river eels, you know you've got the mission.

The Zidagar Strand missions start at Pozdag-3 in the Pozdag system in northern Miranu space.

The Azdgari Strand missions start at South Tip Station in the Akrayhek system, which is at the extreme galactic south, practically in the Proxima Nebula.

Hrm. I think that about covers it, missions wise. I doubt that this has anything to do with it being a windows port; for something that large, there had to be extensive beta testing. Just get a decent combat rating and look around for more missions. Eventually, you're bound to find one, and when you do, the game becomes infinitely more fun. (Especially with all the cool new ships and outfits you get to buy when you get far enough into some strings. šŸ˜„ )

I hope that helps you out, and I wish you luck.

      Peace,
      Solel

      Blame it on Shayborg's job.

Ultimate is the highest up you can get, and deadly is the second highest. When you get a better ship, Turncoats are good for improving combat ratings because of the fairly high crew count.

Solel didn't mention much about human strings. If you don't have SC missions yet, which are higher paying deliveries, go to the bar in New Chicago. Also, just fly around UE space stopping in bars. The missions there don't need quite such a high combat rating, although maybe a bit higher than you have now.

I didn't mention them because it looked like they were there on Shayon's site. Also, having a combat rating of deadly or ultimate can come in handy later in the game, as you need either of those ratings to dominate a planet.

The way I work up to a good ship (assuming I'm not in a hurry) is this:

shuttle-transporter-heavy freighter (yeah it sucks but the medical cargo runs are worth it) get lots of escorts, trade medical between Atlantic Station and New Calcutta (one jump- Medium to High, sometimes Higher) you'll have profit very quickly- then freight courier- which will give you enough speed/weaponry to complete the first UE missions.

    • hmm, i might try trading, and arent turncoats painfully hard to get, if i could get one without virtualy defecting to the renegades i would because they look so cool. Is there any independant world i can get it at.
ps: i got the sc missions (chaching) good money.

    • If you bribe the renegades to land on one of their planets/stations, you can buy one there. You can do this and still remain on the UE side. They're a good 1.5 million, though
