    • OOC: My server went down so I didn't post for a while.
I frowned as I saw the weekly report on my desk. It was always a bother to read and the writer had no idea how to tell us that the advantages were not on our side. According to it, we were having extreme problems with fleet size, improper training, and even an occasional fleet being to large for the commanders to cope. We needed more troops, a better and faster training program, and more commanders. These goals were admirable but we had little hope for completing all of them. The technology that we were working on was (to say the least) advantageous. Unfortunately, spy reports report that the other races had major technology breakthroughs as well. We were actually losing! The front was weakening and the expenses were so drastic that they were beginning to come out of my pocket. We needed to get an ally. The lack of exploration was due to the exploration programs (or lack thereof). The war had halted most of the previous exploration programs due to the necessity of the frontline troops. We needed new bases and more knowledge about our surrounding galaxy. I think that I could scrounge up a few ships for an exploration program.

    • Gordontorn was confident that things were getting done. Things seemed to progressing in every area. They had received a message from the southern scouting party that they had contacted 2 new governments, the mysterious humans and a government which to them seemed strandless. He was stuck in his rather small office when his computer started whirring.
“Sir, we have received a new message from the Voinians”-Computer
      “Great lets hear it”-Gordontorn
      ---relays message about history---
“So it does seem that these voinians are at war with the humans, but the people of Emalghia are not allied with them. Most peculiar. Hmm . We do not know that they are telling the truth about these humans. The voinians might be evil, they seem to be pretty friendly an anyway they are pretty much boxed in as we are. I have already talked to the Council of Elders and they agree that we could benefit from a relationship. Computer send them this message using the encrypted line. You will need to translate” –Gordontron
“Yes I will use the encrypted line and translate for you”-Computer
“Hang on they seem to have a person who can understand our language because the voice that spoke was not computerized. So I guess don’t translate it.”-Gordontorn

---Message to voinians using the encrypted line---
We were interested by friendliness. Your history was interesting and we have also discovered these humans and the people of Emalghia. Our scouts thought that your technology could compliment ours, and visa versa. We have very advanced shield technology and according to our scouts your ships are lacking in that area. We could use those purple laser things your ships fire and plans for your strong armor. We do not intend to spill our secrets to an alien race we don’t even know. The Azdgari have decided to send you the following information on the history of our race: ----(ooc see first post made in this thread for history)---- We also intend to send you a shipment of what we call level 1 technology. Level 1 consists of technology that normal citizens as well as privateers can purchase. The scout ships that withdrew from your territory found a new route that is not inhabited by anyone else. We will send the shipment through there. Beware if you should attempt and capture any class 2 technologies from our ships, or our ships, that they have been rigged with explosives. It will take 14 jumps to get to you. We hope that we can develop a relationship but we want to stay out of your war with your neighbors. In return however we would like your level 1 technology. This transmission contains a map of how to safely get to Raigar, where you can drop of the technology if you decide to do so. Gordontorn- Leader of the Azdgari”

“Great now we must do what we promised tell Raigar to send 1 Azdgari Warships with the 5 Azdaras that went down there the first time to the Voinians through neutral space. Tell them to load the warships with explosives as well as the following technology in the cargo hold:
      1. Repulser beam
      2. Tractor beam
      3. Pursuit Launchers, and 5 missiles
      4. 1 phase cannon and plans for the turrets and swivel cannons
      5. 1 shield capacitator
      6. 1. dispersal rocket launcher plus 5 missiles
      7. Defense pod launcher and 5 defense pods
      8. Plans for an ECM upgrade
      9. Plans for a cresent fighter bay and fighters
      10. Plans for an Arada
      11. Plans for ECM upgrade, thrust upgrade, and top speed upgrade

      13. 1 SAD launcher plus 5 pods
      14. Map of how to find the Miranu
      15. Map of the gap between the humans and people of Emalghia”

“That is already done sir they will begin loading the warship soon”-Computer
"OK and now to adress seleria we got her message a while ago, how did it go again?" Gordontron

"After careful consideration I have decided to accept your offer. Due to the fact that the Zidagar may already be taking steps to ally with the Zachit , or I might just be paranoid, I have decided it is mandatory to leave immediately. I’m sorry I have not given you time to finish your tap, but it is completed enough to show you my location at all times, but it won't tap my transmissions. I will not tamper with it. I will deliver your message to the Zachit as planned. Do not send the escorts you offered me, as that will make travel difficult through Zidagar systems. The Zidagar have no knowledge of my involvement with you, and will not cause me any problems."
"Now she may think that we are after her for leaving without our permission so send the following response"-Gordontron

      ---to Seleria destination unknown, encrypted--
"We have received your message and back your movemnt. If your run into trouble send word, you never know a raiding party might be near. Once you are done delivering the cealed message contact us if you want because we have more work for you. If not contact us anyway. -Gordontron"

“Great now that that is done I think I will get a Noah’s Bagel.”-Gordontron

OOC: take 1 azdgari warship and 5 azdaras from defense at Raigar and send them to Avann. It takes 14 jumps at 4 jumps per RTD that is 3 and ˝ RTD’s. Ships will arrive on the afternoon of 4/10/03.

ooc edit: There you go Seleria I did read your post I just did not specifically adress your message. I wrote knowing you sent the anwser. Hope that clears that up.

      Chapter 5: The Spiders

An air taxi hummed along through the main airways of Kaystra, capital of the Alliance. The black paint of the vehicle gleamed in the bright sunlight of the day and reflected the cheerful yellows and reds and browns of the surrounding foliage. Its occupants were in sharp contrast to their environment. Ek Daal, clad in his usual dark green robes woven with his zelja threads of rank, was cooly smoking a Kayan cigarette, a habit he'd picked up from Kon soon after taking power on Kayia. The general himself was there, resplendent in the uniform of a Death Commando Marshal, which was his second legitimate—although highly secret—title. Arza was wearing the dull green of the Alliance, interwoven with the brilliant patterns of her rank, and her hand was idly running up and down the dull edge of a saber, the traditional baton of authority for a colonel.

The taxi decelerated and landed in front of a pair of iron gates with a sign hanging from them that read "ALEPH CAMP, REDSWORD MOUNTAINS". Arza vaulted the side of the taxi and waited impatiently for Zathe and Kon. The general, rushing to meet up with the angry colonel, swore as he tripped on the door of the taxi, but he caught his balance in time with an outstretched hand. Zathe calmly walked out of the taxi, making no overt effort to hurry as he tipped the driver and inclined his head. The loyal soldier smiled and saluted his leader, and then drove off.

"So this is the base camp for our green troops?"

"Hardly green, Zathe my friend," intoned a muscular Strandless. "Come on inside. The troops are ready for inspection," he continued, idly caressing the red bands of rank on his black uniform, identical to Kon's in every respect, including rank.

      “Chiyohae?”

“Aye sir,” replied the Strandless. “It’s been a while.”

      “Indeed it has.”

      “If you will follow me?”

As the four walked through the gates to the training compound, ek Daal painted an expression of casual interest on his face to mask the turbulent thoughts crashing through his head. Chiyohae, more commonly known as Chiy, was as much of a legend as Zathe was, but for completely different reasons, mostly. The burly Strandless had trained almost every single ship commander and death commando on Kayia over the fifty years of his occupation as Alliance military instructor. At one point during that, however, he had served under ek Daal’s command in the Battle of the Belt. In a desperate gamble, Zathe had led his crescent fighter squadron against one of the three warships the Mavs renegades had sent against them. In the hellish firefight that followed, Zathe’s strict discipline had meshed with Chiy’s training to give the squadron a distinct edge over the onboard fighters of the warship. While those had been dispatched quickly, the warship itself refused to destruct until half of Zathe’s squadron had gone with it. Still, it was a victory, and it had given Arza enough time to take out the second warship on her own. The third had retreated, its commander demonstrating a rare piece of intelligence in a renegade.

The dusty path they trod wove its way higher into the mountains, and they passed the fortifications and arsenals that were placed periodically across the trail. Several platoons of soldiers were training at each one, and all snapped to attention and saluted crisply when the group of commanders walked by. Zathe always returned the salute for camaraderie—if not for loyalty-breeding as well. Soon they had arrived at the huge parade grounds in front of the main command structure, located at the top of Redsword Plateau Aleph. A million troops had arrayed themselves there in a standard Alliance mass rally. Each wore the dark green of the Alliance with a bandolier of fusion grenades across it. Each wore a polished conical helmet emblazoned with the warship-and-star emblem of the Alliance. Each carried a phase assault rifle with extra power cells arrayed across a utility belt. Each had the same look in his or her eyes, the look of confidence that came with a sense of power and strength to those who could survive Chiy’s training. But a few of them stood out. Some of them didn’t look at Zathe and Arza and Kon with puerile admiration. Some of them studied them, sizing them up for strengths and weaknesses, for ways they could learn from them.

“Armies of the Alliance,” began Zathe, “soon we shall stop the injustices done by the Unobot Theocracy and the Mavs Renegade Coalition.” He looked out over the entire audience, but ek Daal only made eye contact with the last group of soldiers, the ones who showed the first fledgling signs of command potential. Maybe they’ll be ship commanders one day, he thought absently. We’ll need more of them once Voltok finishes. By now the cheering had subsided, so he went on.

“The criminal rulers of Obutes have committed acts of genocide against their own people: 100 million have died in the past seven weeks. We shall put a stop to this!

“The pirates of Mavs have plundered neutral Miranu vessels in direct violation of the Gadzair Convention and the Code of Akrayhek. We shall deal out justice!

“The Unobot Theocracy refuses to respect the rights of its citizens and expunges all hope of a better life in its system. We shall teach the Obutans the meaning of an efficient lifestyle!

“The Coalition has for too long built up its fleets since the Battle of the Belt. We shall make that construction project a vain effort on the part of the renegades!

“Obutes’ leaders have given up their claim to honor in this universe! Mavs’ captains have long since strangled what morals they once held! Bakoom needs our protection from the monsters that claim mastery of the rebels. Let the banners of the Alliance be a light unto these nations! Let them see what can be accomplished if every citizen is judged solely by the content of his character and the merits of his efforts! For the Alliance!”

Zathe raised his phase assault rifle up with one arm; his allies and the million soldiers in front of him did so as well. The plateau was no longer an inanimate geographical location, but a writhing mass of fanatically loyal and justice-seeking soldiers all cheering and applauding and raising their weapons in salute to their leader.

Hours later, they returned to the Green Tower. A military clerk walked up to the Supreme Commander and saluted. Zathe returned the salute and took the datapad with a nod to the secretary. He motioned for the others to follow him into the main conference chamber, and he placed the datapad into a displayer, setting it to project in three dimensions above the circular table that dominated the room. They looked impassively at the Azdgari transmission.

Supreme Commander Zathe ek Daal smiled. He looked over at Kon but said nothing, just held his gaze.

“What?” the general asked irritably. After Zathe continued to look at him, Kon said uncomfortably, “So the Azdgari want to throw their weight around. They won’t see us as a threat, especially once we get our cloaks on the fleet. I see no reason not to accept their offer.”

“I concur,” stated Colonel Arza. “Perhaps we may speak personally with an Azdgari negotiator if we allow right of passage. Also, it would be to our strategic benefit to be allowed through their systems anyway.”

Zathe nodded. “Very well then. Send the following message to the Azdgari, Colonel Arza.”

      End Message-)

“You chose not to mention the idea of a conference,” accused Arza.

“I want to see if they have changed from the Azdgari of my ancestors’ time,” replied Zathe. “Until they do, no conference shall be called.”

“Then let us hope you change your mind.”

“Hope then that the Azdgari have become less warlike.”

      Bakoom System

“Alright people, listen up.” The voice was that of Admiral Vichama. Although Zathe wasn’t present at the battle to keep him in line, he didn’t need to be. Vichama, no matter what he did at this battle, could only play into Zathe’s hands. So he decided to do what was best for the Alliance. “We’re here in Bakoom to set up a protectorate for these people. The pirates and Obutes pose enough of a threat to wipe them out if we don’t help them. So prime your weapons in case any renegade or hostile craft swoop in under the sensor interference that we can’t filter out.”

“Aye sir. And what should we do if there’s nothing here?”

“Keep on course for the planet. We’ll be transmitting shortly, and I want to be in orbit when I do so.”

      “Right then.”

As it happened, the ship commander had been guessing along the right lines. But he hadn’t been entirely incorrect. The only ships present were an arada captained by an independent merchant and two militia crescent fighters. Or so it seemed at first. The arada fired a rocket at one of the militia ships, and followed through with a barrage of fire that surprised the militiaman. Admiral Vichama responded quickly. He ordered the Alliance force, comprised of 2 Laziras, 10 Aradas, and 7 Crescent Fighters, to attack the pirate arada. SADs and a hail of rockets and phase weaponry slammed into the shields and armor of the rogue pilot’s ship, and the vessel exploded as the atmosphere combusted. The militia hailed Vichama’s flagship.

“We appreciate the help. You want to stick around a little?”

Vichama grinned. “As a matter of fact, we do. We’re from the Akrayhek Alliance, and we’re here to ask whether or not your world would like to join the Alliance. You would experience the same natural rights and free government as our people have should you accept.”

“Sounds good, but I’ll need to ask the Geologist. He’ll have an answer to you shortly.”

After about an hour, which hardly seemed short to the admiral, the leader of Bakoom, Geologist Kane, was on the line. “Membership with the Alliance? Yes, why not? Go ahead and land at starport nine. We’ll draw up the necessary treaties there.”

“Excellent. Thank you, and welcome to the Alliance.”

“Hey, so long as you keep the renegades and the cursed Unobot thugs off our backs, we’re fine with it.”

      Chapter 6: Safe House

      Voltok, in orbit around Kayia

Zathe was examining the construction process of the new Alliance laziras when Colonel Arza entered with Admiral Vichama. The three exchanged salutes and traditional greetings before the Supreme Commander began to discuss the important information at hand.

"Shipyard Commandant Kile ek Gael reports that the cloak has now been fitted to all ships in Akrayhek. Ship Commander Xol ek Sindrel reports the same for our border patrols. Admiral, can you give me an equal report for our Bakoom fleet?"

"Absolutely. My command has also been outfitted with the multidimensional cloaking devices. We have tested them, and the sensor stations we commandeered on Bakoom were unable to detect our vessels. The fuel requirement does limit our capabilites somewhat, but it should give us a major strategic advantage when we engage Unobot's defense fleet or Mavs."

      "Excellent. Follow me."

The three moved through metallic halls, past the electronic paradise of the main command bridge, and into another hanger. There, new assemblage equipment was being brought in from freighters coming up from Kayia.

"This is the expansion, I take it," observed Arza.

Zathe nodded. "It'll give us the necessary warship complements we'll need to face the renegades effectively. We won't have time to use it for Unobot. There'll be some losses there, but we must keep to the timetable. The soldiers will fight the harder for it when they realize they are in danger."

      "Understood."

"For now, Admiral, return to Bakoom. Researcher Inti is already there setting up the new research line, and you'll be more productive on the front lines."

      "Aye sir."

      "Good. You're dismissed."

Prometheus Flamus: Work progresses well on the new research station. Geologist Kane has been most helpful in picking a site where there is little danger of tectonic damage, and his insights have allowed for safe construction. The monitoring sensors have been installed, but the really expensive equipment still needs to be imported from the Guild's headquarters back in Akrayhek, and then finally installed. • Banon looked through the various reports. "Hm...what's this? Transmission from...the Azdgari race...right of passage, mhmm...Well, this is certainly worth sending a reply to," he said. There was some brief footage of the Azdgari vessels in Omm. Like little flies, Banon thought. He opened up a direct audio channel to the Prime Minister's office. "Good day, General," Schwartz said. "Good day to you," Banon replied. "Listen to this." He sent a copy of the Azdgari message through. "Fascinating, fascinating ," Schwartz said. "The aliens came to us! Hah! Oh, speaking of which, is there any word from Commander Hardee?"
      "No," Banon said flatly.
"Ah..well, I'm sure she'll send a message eventually. Now, about these Agzardi, I'm authorizing you to send a reply. Tell them we won't fire on them if they don't fire on us, and will allow them to traffic through our systems if they will us. That will be all."
      Schwartz closed off the channel.
The reverse-engineering of the Neutron Turrets was done. Research on the armor plating was already begun. Apparently, the construction of Sol Station was actually ahead of schedule, and would be done at least one week (1 RTD) sooner than expected; Neutron batteries were already being integrated. "Ah, excellent," he said. And now he was thinking about the Azdgari and their message, and sent a reply.

      Leaders of the Azdgari,
On behalf of the U.E., I will say that you are welcome to our space as long as we are welcome to yours. While we do not posess much in the way of advanced technology — the war with the Voinians has taxed much of our effort and attention, but it is something we are remedying — we will trade weapons and technology if you will as well.

The Wombat entered the Mira system, the center of Miranu trade and government. Captain Hertz had stopped at Priat and (insert name of planet in the system between Priat and Mira which I can't remember), if only to look at the weapons and ships, and going to the bars; he had gathered that all in all, these Miranu were peaceful and content with their lives as they were. And there was a surprising amount of Saalian brandy sold at the bars. "I wonder how many other alien species there are — and if they drink Saalian brandy too!" Commander Hardee said with a chuckle. In the Mira system were a number of freighters and couriers, and three miltia Crescent Fighters. Hardee said, "Wait; let's at least send a message to their government, first. If we just showed up and said I'm an ambassador from the U.E., take me to your leader, it wouldn't be...well...polite." Hertz nodded. "All right; we'll send a message."

      Leaders of the Miranu,
I am Lia Hardee, an ambassador from the U.E. government. I have been sent to communicate with you, and discuss trade relations and traffic rights. My ship, the Wombat , is already in the Mira system, and I will await your permission to land and meet with you.

" Your ship, Commander?" Hertz lifted an eyebrow at her.
      "Er...well..."

“I assume you are talking about the experimental shield generator that is not on all of our ships yet.” –Gordontron

“Yes as you said we could not outfit it on all of the ships due to the generators size. This space problem is solved with our new Generation 2 Azdara.”-Science Advisor

“First we should address the other technology I think.” –Gordontron

“Ah, right. The other technology is a new ECM device .” -Science advisor

-me buts in- “an ECM device didn’t I tell you that they suck to be concise.”-Gordontron
“Yes but this device not only jams all homing objects it also, in theory, it completely jams anything with a targeting system. In other words turrets will be useless against any ships that has this device. It takes up 5 space however because it is so powerful. We have been researching this for ages however. It has gone through all of its test and can be simply outfitted in our fleets.” -Science Advisor

“That is great start outfitting all our ships with it.” –Gordontron

“Also we were originally going to allow our new Azdgari Shield Generator to be tested only on our war party. We have observed firefights with that war party and have determined that it is useful and safe to put on the rest of our ships.” –Science Advisor

“Consider the upgrading of our ships with this new device done.” –Gordontron

      Bakoom

The Kayan reinforcement fleet jumped into Bakoom, having travelled from Akrayhek under the command of Admiral Vichama. He docked with the flagship he'd left in orbit around the tectonic research world below, and greeted Researcher Inti.

"What's the situation back home?" began the scientist as he fell into step with Vichama, walking through the main metallic corridors of the K.A.S. Disciple.

"Zathe's playing his hand. We're starting Phase I of Objective: South Tip Redemption."

      "So what's the first target?"

      "Obutes. Unobot System."

      "When do we leave?"

      "Three hours."

      ==================

      Unobot System

The Alliance Assault Force jumped into Unobot. 8 Laziras, 40 Aradas, and 55 Crescent Fighters began making their way towards the planet. Admiral Vichama sent out the ultimatum demanding immediate surrender of the tyrannical government, and extended the Alliance's hand in friendship to the oppressed peoples of Obutes. However, the Unobot dictator refused to go quietly, and the defense fleet of 5 Laziras, 20 Aradas, and 10 Crescent Fighters was launched from the world.

"All hands to weapons. When they get close to weapons range, activate your cloaks and break."

The Unobot ships saw a fleet approaching them that suddenly disappeared. The Alliance craft moved out of the way before random firing could hit them, and soon came up behind the Unobot ships and opened up with SADs, Dispersal Rockets, and a torrent of phase fire. Half of the enemy fighters and 5 of their aradas were destroyed before the Unobot fleet realized the Alliance was there. But the forces of Akrayhek recloaked and repeated the pattern, this time eliminating the remaining fighters and five more aradas. Although three Alliance fighters and 1 arada were lost, Vichama did not let that bother him.

Soon the battle was over. The Alliance seized the dictator, Alka Galta, and handed him over to the populace, who promptly hanged him. Unobot was declared a member state of the Alliance, and it was given the title of Protectorate. The people soon elected their own representative government, which was answerable to the Green Tower in case any of the old atrocities of the late dictator were committed.

    • Approaching System: Zachit
Seleria yawned and stretched when she heard the announcement from Hyperion’s computer. She had been sprawled in her favorite swivel-chair with her shoulders resting on one armrest and her long legs swung over the other. Her attention during the trip had been focused mainly on running, beating up the new punching bag she had acquired on Azdgari, eating, sleeping, and reading her new book. Lately she had noticed with annoyance she had been left out of many conversations on Azdgari because she had not been able to speak the language. Gordontron and the council had been speaking Galactic Common for her benefit, but other Azdgari she met didn’t seem to care. Before leaving, she had bought an Azdgari/Galactic Common dictionary, and by now had gotten pretty far in the language. Seleria made up her mind to send her next transmission to Gordontron completely in Adzgari. Due to the fact that she had so much time on her hands, and that she seemed to pick up languages quickly, Seleria guessed she would have the language almost mastered by the time she returned to Adzgari. Massaging the stiffness out of the shoulder that had been supporting most of her weight on the armrest, Seleria took Hyperion’s controls.
With a flash, Hyperion jumped into the Zachit system. The Zacha on patrol immediately snapped to attention at the presence of a Crescent Warship, but relaxed when their scanners detected that the Hyperion was not a renegade vessel. Seleria sent out a signal the Outpost Zachit, requesting to land. Of course, she was granted permission. After Hyperion was safely landed, with the security system set, and unloaded her speeder, which she had driven into her cargo hold before leaving Adzgari. It took her about half an hour and a map to find the building where the Zachit leader had his office. Seleria parked the speeder and boldly entered the building. The only person in the room was a young secretary working at her desk. Seleria walked up to her desk, and she looked up.
“Hello, I’d like to speak to Commander Kirk Staley,” it was almost more a command than a request. Seleria had tried, but only half succeeded to hide her usual demanding nature. She had glad she managed to find out the name of the Zachit leader in the spaceport. Take me to your leader was to unoriginal.
“Do you have an appointment?” the secretary asked her.
“No, but I do have a very important message for him. Will he be free anytime soon?”
“I’ll have to check. Why don’t you sit down and wait? It might be a while.”
With a sigh Seleria wandered over to a corner of the room, where several hard-backed chairs were lined up, and tried to get comfortable. After five minutes she was desperately hoping that Kirk wouldn’t be doing anything important anytime soon.

"What does that mean? What do we do? He said that nothing ever happens, the computer does most of it." The other was worried, but her face was turned downward towards the meaningless buttons. "I think....when we were in the Academy, before getting on the job training...That button!" She reached forward triumphantly, the message playing from the UE.
      "Uh...I can't understand them...."
"I think it's another race. Not one of the strands, we know those languages. Maybe it's a race we don't know about?"
They looked at each other, then glanced at their officer and the one who was training them. "You know, he did say not to wake him. We could just take this the the Shartlę, they might know who it is." The girl shook her head.
"I think we should take it to the president." Both sighed.
      "Two recordings?"
"Two recordings, we'll take one to both, then our president and the Shartlę will probably discuss it." "But this came from a ship...won't they get impatient?"
"That's not my fault. Our government takes a delight in discussing things, especially if they have to do with trade, and if this is a new race...."
      "Oh, I see."
The two trainees crept out of the communications building, heading towards the government buildings.

The young Miranu woman looked up sharply as she heard the door creak open. She was about to open her mouth with a sharp question when a frightened looking girl came in, looking to be barely out of one of the training schools. She hid her amusement as the girl-who was, she noticed, actually not that much younger than herself- hid her excitement and nervousness, and put a data chip on her desk. "Ma'am, me and my partner in training were watching the communications when it started blinking, and when we put it on, we couldn't understand. We thought perhaps if anyone would know about them, it would be you, or the Shartlę. My fellow trainee went to them, and i brought this to you."
The President, named Alenia, listened to the message and smiled. It was the people who made Saalian brandy. The merchants went down and bought shipments, but it was expensive to buy it. She nodded at the trainee.
"Don't worry about it, I recognize the language, you know what Saalian brandy is?"

The girl nodded. "These people make it on a planet, which the brandy is named after. Your officer should have briefed you on this, they're supposed to teach you the the things that school doesn't." She shook her head, obviously they needed a new training officers. "Before you leave, report the name of your officer. And also, make sure you report that you and your fellow trainee were the ones who caught the message, not your officer."
The girl slipped out, and Alenia tapped her fingers thoughtfully. The humans had finally come up here, so it wouldn't just be powerful traders going down and getting rich. She smiled, got up, and called the Shartlę to a meeting.

They met in the Kelnar building, which basically met the place where meetings were held. She sat in the Presidents chair, the 15 members of the Shartlę across from her and the three of her own people. It was a short discussion. They started it off.
"I assume the other trainee gave you a recording?"
"Yes, it looks like the government will actually have more contact with the humans than just tidbits through the Saalian merchants."
"Then we're all agreed? We let them land?"
"Yes, but what kind of landing party should we have?"
"Send a few token body guards and someone who knows the human language. We believe-"
Alenia interrupted. "I have someone already. Mekar can translate. That way we don't have to track down some merchant whose been down there."

The Shartlę stirred, the 15 members grumbling among themselves. They were a council of sorts, but she was a representation of the people as a whole, they were more for companies, they did the day to day things, she and her people, the more important decisions. It kept the politics less murky. "We would like it if-"

"No. This is an ambassador. This is between governments purely. Their landing party shall be escorted here, where we shall all convene and hear what they have to say, and talk trade. The one thing we can all agree on is that trade is one thing that can always be talked about. I'll have someone send a message."

    • Hertz read the message, and without even glancing at Hardee took the ship down to the planet. Hardee frowned slightly, but shook her head and went back to her quarters. "Women," Hertz muttered.
As the Wombat touched down on the landing pad, several Miranu - their welcoming party, Hertz figured - were already waiting for them. "Perkins, go get - " He was cut off as Hardee herself entered. "Ah, I see they are already waiting for us. Well, I won't keep them waiting any longer." With that, she went directly to the exit ramp. While back in her quarters she had changed out of her Commander's suit into something more suitable for an ambassador. Just before reaching the ramp, however, she stopped when she heard the sound of boots following her. It was Hertz. "And since when were you the ambassador here, captain?" Hardee said. "I might ask you the same thing, Commander ," was the sarcastic reply. Hardee sniffed. "Go take your crew to some pub - I'm sure there's no shortage, for all these people are wealthy and prosperous." Hertz glared at her. "You know, I just may well do that!" he snarled, and marched back to the bridge. The ramp suddenly lowered; Hertz must have told someone to do that. Hardee had completely forgot. Pushing all thought of the captain out of her mind, she stepped down the ramp, going to meet the Miranu. There were several bodyguards and one official/important-looking Miranu, to whom she said "Greetings. I am Ambassador Lia Hardee. Who are you?"

Take a line from any Star Wars movie. Replace certain words with 'spank':
"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Spank."
"Queen Amidala is young and naive; you will find spanking her not too difficult." "And what of the Jedi?" "She should never have brought them into this. Spank them immediately."

      Chapter 8: Nationalism

      Obutes, Unobot System

General Kon walked out into the sunshine that showered the world of Obutes with bountiful energy every moment, smoothing the wrinkles out of his black military robes as he did so. An honor guard of eight green-robed Alliance Death Commandos followed him, holding their phase assault rifles in the proper fashion suiting the elite personal guard of the general. Although he had listened to all the propaganda back home just like any other Alliance soldier, Kon was slightly surprised to find a crowd of millions of Obutans surrounding the docking platform—and even more surprised to see them cheering him. Oh well. I might as well like it. This'll make the job a little easier anyway.

He stopped at a chromium alloy podium raised on a balcony. His eight soldiers fanned out to make a staggered line around his area, keeping a free hand on their fusion pistols for good measure; they never relaxed their alertness. After waiting at the podium patiently for a full minute, during which he looked around the crowd and specifically looked directly into the eyes of seemingly random people, Kon spoke in his amiable voice—the one he saved for propaganda addresses across the Alliance hyperwave relay or for speeches such as this.

"Citizens of Obutes," he began, "we gather here today in Unobot City to establish a New Order in the region. The Akrayhek Alliance has begun its quest for justice. The Akrayhek Alliance has vowed to root out all pirate and tyrannical governments that oppress and exterminate their own people. The Akrayhek Alliance welcomes Obutes into its midst!" After the cheering subsided once again, he went on. "You have already begun electing a democratic government, which shall interact with a congruent one back in Akrayhek by means of the instantaneous communication that is the hyperwave relay. Through this means, you shall be in direct control of your destiny, something to which you could not have attested back when you were oppressed under the evil dictatorship we have freed you from!"

"We have liberated Bakoom as well. No longer shall the iron fist of renegade cruelty threaten horrific suffering over the Strandless of the South Tip. We, the Alliance, shall expunge the evil that is Mavs! We, the Alliance, shall bring justice to the monsters of Neslaut!" There was passionate applause and cheering now.

"And when that threat is finished, what shall remain? The Alliance shall then encompass the combination of all the Strandless who have been oppressed by the renegades that shall be no more! The Alliance shall include not only Bakoom and Obutes, but also Tibidat, where there shall be a new social order of equality; Duios shall be included, and they shall see the realization of their ideals in the form of the freedom that is the Alliance's to give; with the threat of the infestation that is Neslaut gone, the people of Groned shall not be forgotten. No, all shall share in the abundance such a coalition shall bring. Today marks the joining of the third member of the Alliance!"

As the crowds, now fanatically loyal to the Alliance, continued to cheer him, Kon smiled. He knew a similar speech was being delivered on Bakoom by Inti, and that the dedicated Alliance propagandists would keep up the fervor until all these people could breathe was Alliance support and Strandless nationalism.

I will talk to the Zidagar about allowing passage through Querid. I will also talk to the Zidagar about joining in the attacks on the Rock and possibly, the NT Station. We will deal with the NT Station. The NT Station MUST REMAIN INTACT. I hereby invite you to trade with our people and the Miranu people. We need to capture the Rock. Do not destroy the Rock.

I sent a representative a few weeks ago, but no words has been heard. I am contacting you to allow the Azdgari fleet safe passage through Querid. I am also contacting you because the NT Renegades has been a problem for years. Querid is the only planet that suffers from renegades attack, but it is one Zidagar planet suffering. We need to stop the NT Renegades NOW before they begin to destablilize the region, any further. Send a fleet of Zidagar ships to Outpost Zachit, however, the Azdgari is also allying with us for NT Renegades. I ask you to put away your enemity and join together for one common enemy: The NT Renegades. Do not take advantage of the Azdgari if you ally up. We plan to capture the Rock. The Zidagar, Zachit, and Azdgari will meet on Outpost Zachit to discuss the NT Station after we grab the Rock.
