    • Help with the Strategy Guide

I've started to work on a EVO (Escape Velocity: Override) Strategy Guide.
All help is wanted, if you play EVO and have some free time and are willing to help me out, that would be great.
To help me you will need some knowledge and a little writing skills if possible.
I hope to have these areas covered:

      • Mission Map
      • Mission Information (for all threads)
      • Ship information
      • Government background
      • Trade routes
      • Hints and tips
      • Ship guides
      • Outfits guides
      • Outfit information
      • EVO and related links
      • Other stuff I forgot

If you can help me with any of these areas please post a reply on this topic.
Please list how much free time you have per a day and what you are willing to work on or help out on.

There is an offical topic on MacGamer.net and it is at (url="http://"http://forums.macgamer.net/index.php?act=ST&f;=2&t;=70")http://forums.macgam...act=ST&f=2&t=70 (/url)

    • I will not get involved beside pointing you to (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/dsghosh/evosite/index.html")Shayon's EVO Web Site(/url). It is a good start.

Edit: there was this chart about all the possibilities and requirements for each bits of mission. I bet some people have it, I did but cannot find it.

    • It's a very good idea, Taylor, though I can't help but feel that a lot of this sounds familiar. 😉 Seriously -- something almost identical was (and is) the goal of my site as well as EVula's EVO survival guide.

I would help you out, but not only am I already writing mission descriptions for my site already, I'm also swamped with schoolwork for pretty much the foreseeable future. Best of luck, though.

    • Another problem is that there are very few EVO newbies left, so your guide would probably be pretty much unused.

    • I can help with the outfits, ships, and jünks guide. I can give it to you in a form similar (sp.?) to that of "Where can I buy...?" It will have to wait until next week for me to start. If you are not familiar with "Where can I buy...?", it has cost, avaiability test, tech level, buy random, cost, mass, max #, etc..

Oh, and Blackdog EVO will probably spread to many noobies, once the EVO-->EVN plugin comes out.

Great to see someones helping him! There is no avaiblity tests in EVO because there is no NCBs, did you mean mission bits? And atleast no buy random, that is a new feature in Nova. Yeah, there will be many newbies when the EVO conversion comes out.

      1. Yes. Most of my experience with ResEdit is with EVN. Since NovaTools screws up EVO files, I will have to remember to remove my ResEdit prefs, so as to not screw things up. I guess that's why you work from a copy of the data files. The info should be sent out in about a month. I finish my university semester later this week, so I should be able to start by the end of April 2003. While I am at it, I might write a version of "Where can I buy...?" for EV....

I can't help remembering that I talked to you about this. I think I started this a while back when I thought your site was removed. Then I learned that the address had changed.

After that, and the work, I don't like the idea of failing to complete a project.

I don't want to compete with you, only perhaps contribute to your guide.

Some information has already been done. Please do not do the shipyard.

I don't remember talking to you about this, but you're probably right and you did -- I've always been kind of forgetful. Even if you didn't, though, I don't view it as competition or anything. As far as I'm concerned, the more viewpoints on EVO information on the Web, the better. It's not as if I get money for every hit to my site, it's just something I like to do. I just wanted to point out that you're taking on a lot of work for something that's already in progress in other places. If you've started on it significantly already, by all means -- full speed ahead and best of luck to you, like I said earlier. 🙂

I must also say that I will not be limited to just EVO. I hope to have other strategy guides in addition to the one I already am making.

EVula has already made one but I will consider it.

I'd like to see a non-traditional guide that is sort of like a book of travels throughout the galaxy, like an explorer's journal. With all the nuances and minor issues of the galaxy sprinkled throughout. That would rock, for either EVO or EVN..

I think that you don't see many love stories in EV simply because the engine isn't quite geared towards that. What are you going to do, keep meeting your significant other in a bar (or, with Nova, the Outfitter, Shipyard, or Trade Center) and have questions like "Will you go out on a date with me?" | Yes/No | "Great, pick me up on <DST> in a month and we'll have dinner."?

Interesting idea. Would this book assume that you took a certain way through the missions or would you be just constantly flipping through the book looking for where the missions went?

Or perhaps like a guide type thing where everything is explained and organized (like the MacGamer.net guide) by goverment/mission/thread?

Please elaborate on your interesting idea.

_BTW: Sorry, couldn't help but notice- 1024 bytes... err posts.:) _

      (edit)sorry, it's bytes, not bites(/edit)

Hmm.. I'm not sure on the whole mission thing. Maybe just a sort of generalized guide of the galaxy, and perhaps some delving into changes that happen with the governments.. And I don't envision it as a mission guide so much as a general guide that fleshes out the galaxy, not the missions. You know, allowing for some creativity on the part of the writer, but offering helpful hints here and there. Perhaps even clues as to where to find missions, like "When I was there, there were an awful lot of couriers headed out from Earth to Port Kane.." or "military captains usually find their new independant recruits in the dark, seedy bars of this station.." or something along those lines.

Definitely not a "take the player's hand from point A to B to C" sort of thing, more of a journal/story..

He meant either "bits" or "bytes." 1024 (2^10) bits is a kilobit (under some definitions, I won't get into that argument) and 1024 bytes is a kilobyte. Hence the "1024 bites".

So its just another name for bytes. I thought bites as in biting someone.
