    • "Monty Python Maneuver"?

Um, I've heard a bunch of people sometimes mentioning something called the "Monty Python Maneuver". What the heck is that?

      ------------------
Now, what's a good idea for something to put in my signature?

    • Hi Seth!

I registered an account here too.

Monty Pythoning is abusing the AI glitch/whatever that AI ships don't use the maximum possible range of their weapons.

This way you can hit them a lot without getting hit yourself at all..

      O, and don't use it ^_^

      ------------------
It's funny until someone gets hurt.
      Then it's hilarious.

    • Okay, but in what way do you abuse it? I'm confused.

    • The Monty Python—called this due to the famous line "Run awaaaay!!—is when you get long ranged weaponry, get ahead of an enemy AI ship, match its speed, and fire your weapon while remaining just out of range of their weapons.

A good explanation of it can be found here: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum8/HTML/000922.html")How do you perform the Monty Python maneuver?(/url)

    • Oh, I've done that all the time...I just didn't know that THAT was the MP Maneuver.

...What? How else am I going to beat the Voinian Dreadnought?

You could take it down in an invincible fighter, like the VHF or the Azdara, either with the experimental generator and dospect.

    • “You could take it down in an invincible fighter, like the VHF or the Azdara, either with the experimental generator and dospect.” Hmm . It would be hard to get the dospect if you were attacking the Voinians. That is the best ship for the job if you can get it though.

“Oh, I've done that all the time...I just didn't know that THAT was the MP Maneuver.”
Yes I did not know the name for the maneuver when I first came to the boards but I had used the tactic a lot.

Thanks Bush, great job at protecting oil fields. Oh but next time, protecting the first known artifacts of writing, and the first calendar.

You can get Dospect frem Paaren station once you've repaired it..

You can get Dospect in UE string too, you know? Paaren Station. And if you can force landing on any Voinian planet, they have it too.

    • Yes I have heard that three times now. Sorry I never knew. If you do not use the maneuver many strings are extremly hard.

It has not been said in the manual, so its understandable. But you should have read the boards more closely. You have been joined since December 2000... the end of the year Ambrosia boards got the UBB system. Yes, theyre hard because there is so many powerful ships and swarms of fighters. But its a matter of skill really. The veteran here has played EVO since late July 2001. I did the last Igazra mission- which is probably the hardest in the game. You have to kill a fleet of both Adzgari and Zidagar ships, which has every type of ship they have. Because Zidagar have ECM which completely jam all types of guided weapons, and thinking that Adzgari Aradas are too fast to be hit by SAEs, I fired just 5 Phase Turrets. I used closest ship ® tactics. I was on damaged armor, but I survived. It had no speed upgrades either. Well, it did have Dospect.

    • Heh, this is almost identical to one of the first topics I ever posted here, right down to the "I knew how to do it, just didn't know the name" aspect. 😄

    • If you want to take out large, slow-moving ships that have an indecent amount of armour, and you dislike the idea of running from them, try stripping out a vessel and loading it with about eight Miranu defence systems. Fly straight for the enemy vessel, and dump the pods as you fly over it. Then turn around, and run the gauntlet again. Very satisfying. Anything from a Destroyer on up the price scale should suffice.

    • Heh.

      Never actually heard that.

I thought defence pods were useless.

But can they do damage? Isn't it 7,5 per pod?

Yes. They are only used by Miranu freighters, but can still be used otherwise. Of course they do damage. What would be the point of them otherwise? About how much, I dont know.

I still think the funniest post I've seen in my time here relating to the Monty Python maneuver was a newbie who had some weird name like "John Sideburns" or something bizarre like that, and came to the board bragging about how he'd invented a new move that made you practically invincible and called it the "John Sideburns Maneuver.." It was of course the same thing, but he thought he was the first in the history of EV/O to think it up..

I think that you don't see many love stories in EV simply because the engine isn't quite geared towards that. What are you going to do, keep meeting your significant other in a bar (or, with Nova, the Outfitter, Shipyard, or Trade Center) and have questions like "Will you go out on a date with me?" | Yes/No | "Great, pick me up on <DST> in a month and we'll have dinner."?

That was hilarious! A strange name, thinking that he made a new move, and even named it after himself (shameless! :p)
