    • Frozen Heart problems!

      I'm trying to play FH, but, for some reason, descriptions and graphics are getting mixed up with those from standard EVO. For example, I'm in doing a rescue mission, and apparently the ship is located in one of those systems that has "ion storms." Yes, I do see some storms, but I also see Aradas that are armed with high-power lasers (more on the order of a beam weapon). I'm not flying around in a Falcon, although the graphic is correct. I'm flying around in a "Helian." Those Aradas have killed me more times than I care to mention. I don't have any plugins that would screw it up this much. What can I do?

      Do you have virtual memory enabled? If so, well, this is a common side effect. Disable virtual memory and you should see the problems disappear. For some reason, EVO gets graphics confused when virtual memory is enabled. Hope that helps πŸ™‚

      Nope. VM is off. I've played FH and FF before, with no trouble at all. But that was on a Mac, not an emulated PC.

      You are running it on an emulator. Well, with those, you never know how they are going to work. There are so many factors involved that it could be any of a million problems. I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you, dude, other than get a mac again ;).

      Well, most other plugs work just fine, except for F-25 and this one. I thought it might be that I was playing with that "Last Pilot" that was in there from playing regular EVO last time. I took it out and started a new pilot. It seemed to work better, but I found that instead of a Wanderer, I'm now flying in "The Nadir." Not only that, but even with two external fuel tanks, I can't make three jumps without refueling. Screwy, huh?
      I guess I'll have to put it aside til later.

      No problem with the suggestions.

      I have one other suggestion that MIGHT work. How many segments is the plug split into? If it is a lot of them, then maybe you could try combining them using ResEdit or splitting them down even simplier, causing more plugs. Have you verified that the plugs are not corrupted? It happens from time to time, and that can cause some screwy results, too. Well, good luck in getting them to work. I will try it on my emulator when I wake..snore.... πŸ˜‰

      This happens to me whenever I play an EV or EVO plugin. I find it works just fine if I open res-edit, open the graphics file for the plugin and then close the plugin in resedit (leave res-edit open) and then re-enter EV/O. Then it works just fine. Of course my computer could just be really bad πŸ˜„

      Thanks for the suggestion, Starbridge42! I just tried it and it didn't work. When I "target" a Rim Prospector, my targeting computer identifies it as an Igadzra Arada.
      What I have in my plugins folder are: EVO E3 Graphics, EVO E3 Data, EVO E3 Frozen Heart Quicktime, EVO E3 The Frozen Heart, EVO E3 The Frozen Heart Music, Plasma, Speed Plug, Quick Jump, and Lightning Jump. I also use PFE 3.0 to fix up my ship...

      Since there's a topic about FO on the board already (this one :)) I thought I'd just post in here. I've got a mission problem with FO. I just received a mission in the voting fraud string which instructs me to disable and board a ship heading to the Kintara One (I think) system/planet. I can't find Kintara One... does anyone remember (I know most of you don't play FO anymore) where it is, or can point me to a map?

      When some ship graphics in EVO are messed up it could mean that you don't have enough RAM. Try giving it more and see what happens.

      I think it's got enough RAM, Zax. I checked and it's got minimum:65,000K, preferred: 70,000K. I don't really think that's the problem. I started out around 30,000K and it still isn't fixed. From what I understand, between 40M and 60M is about right. I'm stumped!

      Remove speed plug, and maybe the fast jump plugs too. Speed plug gave me mixed up name problems the first time I played FH.

      I'll try it, but this is the FH is the only plug I've had these problems with. And I usually use speed plug and Lightning Jump no matter what plug I'm playing.

      Check if any other conflicting plugs are in there, say for example, EVO Cheater!?!?

      I wasn't using any cheat plugs, but just now, I clicked on "Use QuickDraw" in the Preferences menu. I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but it's working fine now!

      1. PC Emulators are not supported
      2. FH does not coexist with other plugins
      3. If stuff bleeds through from EVO, it means you are short on memory. This is not really surprising on PC emulation.
