    • What ship to buy?

I've currently got 1 million credits, and am flying a scoutship. Should I purchase a freight-courier, or should I purchase an Arada? Or is there a better option out there?

      Thanks in advance!

    • Arada for one day jumps.

    • Aradas are a lot more agile and jump into hyperspace faster. My vote goes to Arada.

    • There used to be quite a divided opinion between the Freight-courier and Arada around here as I recall...

    • In that price range you'd be better off with an Arada. It's shield recharge, turning, speed, acceleration, and overall "upgradability" puts it head and shoulders above the Freight Courier. The Arada also has the advantage, as was pointed out, of having significantly less mass than the Freight Courier thus allowing it the huge advantage (especially for urgent level missions) of jumps taking one day. When you get into some of the missions your jump time makes an even larger distance.

    • Arada, no question. It's not quite as good as the EV Corvette, but the order that I always used when I played Override was Shuttle->Scoutship->Arada, no matter what missions strings I was in. The Arada is fast, versitile, and able to usually stand on its own in a fight.

    • Well, it all sort of depends. If you want to make more money, Arada (I would advise this).

If you want to take a riskier route, and need a warship, then maybe save up for a Lazira (this is also good for trade).

Arada's are okay for combat, but their armour is a little frail for heavy combat, so watch out with it.

Also, how about a bit more info on your pilot? What storyline are you doing (UE, Miranu ect)? What have you already done with other pilots? Who would you like to play for this time?

If you want ot play with one of the strands, try to observe each side's strengths and weaknesses, then choose a ship accordingly.

Just one thing: NEVER buy the UE Carrier, it's rubbish.

Except for Hunter stand-up on Voinians if they are far away and you have six of them as excort, but you have something else. Don't ask me how I got them as escort. 😉

I would go with the Arada, with good pilot skill, and its qualities, it surpasses everyting. Well a good pilot can always maximize a poor or great ship.

      Good luck!

Are you referring to the Carrier or the Cruiser? It's rather easy to figure out how you be able to capture six Carriers since they're all over the place. As for Cruisers, it's more a matter of finding them (which if you do the Voinian string isn't that much of an issue since you can just cancel the mission and then disable/capture the Cruisers in the system).

    • Here's a topic that gives a strong argument for the Arada, which, as it happens, is my preferred ship in this case.

Except that the Crescent Warship has a 3-day jump, making it impossible to use in getting any of the Strands' initiation missions accomplished. It is also very easy to take down a Crescent Warship in, say, a Crescent Fighter or an Azdara.

Or, if you have lots of time and money, you can follow this algorithm. This works with any big ship, government or otherwise—great for making domination fleets. Buy a UE Cruiser. Make enough money to buy another. Capture a pirate ship, thus making your ship an escort. You then buy another Cruiser, and voila!—You now have 2. Repeat until you have a fleet. This way you don't mess with your karma.

Ok, so you were referring to the Cruiser and not the Carrier. Personally I can't stand escorts so you're rather on your own in regards that to aspect though.

    • Arada, hands down. The Freight Courier is a superb ship around the UE / Renegade / Voinian sector, but it gets easily overwhelmed by the better speed of the crescent ships. The Arada is possibly the best ship you can get in the game for the price.

I'd agree, but only if you're a skilled pilot. The swivel phase cannons are good and all, but against other fighters and aradas it's fairly weak. At least the freight courier boasts the blaze turrets and hunter missiles which are far more effective against the small ships. That said, the freight courier couldn't run from a fight if it's life depended on it- and hit and run? Forget about it. I'd probably go with the Arada, only because I like to have the ability to zip away from a battle when things get sketchy, let my shields regenerate and let them burn off their SADS or missiles or whatever, then pound away with the phase cannons and rockets from long range.

    • I beat my crescent warship in a U.E.destroyer. Very effective.

I've done that numerous times, but mostly because the crescent warship's power is not considerably different from that of the UE. Against swarms of crescent fighters, aradas, azdaras etc., the destroyer becomes hopelessly outmatched. Still, I enjoy using the UE destroyer in the dreadnought missions.
