    • Tactics Question

I've done the Vonian native revolt, But I can't do the missions for The Rock or Admrl Troub. I have a Kestrel with capacitors, vonian armor, etc. but when the 20 or more little ships come on my tail, I can't kill them all beffore they blow through my sheilds and armor.

Do I need a different ship? Are 4 phase turrnets not good enough? I ahd a cloak in the orininal EV, but it never seemed to be worth the bother. Should I get one and if so where?

      Help!!!

    • I destroyed the Rock by getting the cloak. But I was only in a Lazira.

    • How do you have a kestrel in EVO?

Do you mean you have a Crescent Warship? It may be similar to the Kestrel but it's not the Kestrel. 🙂

Well, I think you've discovered the more difficult AI that EVO has to offer in the way of fighter tactics. They're tougher to beat in EVO. You'll have to try things you haven't done before -- unlike in EV, primary weapons might not always be sufficient. Equip yourself with other things. Get rockets. Capture escorts. Things like that.

Just keep trying. You do have the alternative of trying to use a faster ship (so they can't keep swarming you with faster maneuvers), though it will still be difficult to fight such a large number of opponents.

Whatever you choose to try to do, I wish you the best of luck.

    • You should buy a ship that can have a lot of guns or turrets (blaze turrets are good against most fighters, phase turrest work best in Cresent and Renegade systems, but use the emalgha turrets agians the Vonian fighters) and then buy an afterburner and dispersal rockets. Use the afterburner to fly away from the swarms. Keep floating away from the fighters and use turrets until they get within range of the dispersal rockets. Escorts, however, are the best weapon against fighters.

      ------------------

    • If you're going to use escorts, Lazira's are good because they can pack a punch and are still reasonably fast. But dont be tempted to use Crescent Warships, because you can't change the number of ships in that system, so the extra fighters will propably just slow down your machine. Not to mention that They're big targets and wont last long because they're so slow and easy to hit.
But the most ideal thing would be to capture some Voinian Frigates because phase turrets/cannons are extreamly weak against armour.
      Good Luck!

    • I'll chuck in another vote for using a Voinian ship. Assuming you can complete the mission in the allocated time with such a monstrosity of a ship (three days per jump for both the Frigate and Cruiser) it'll be a piece of cake to take out any ships since you're armor level will protect you.

Or just find a copy of 1.0.1, the mission is A LOT easier because the fighter AI blows.

    • Two options. A Voinian capital ship (frigate or cruiser) can sit The Rock through, otherwise you need a fast ship. For dealing with massed Kraits, the main problem is targetting fast enough - especially for people like poor little me, who didn't realise there was a key to select nearest ship. Kraits typically don't last long, and are thus much less dangerous than Crescent Fighters. Try to steer clear of massed fire and destroy them one or two at a time.

forge; does 1.0.1 -> 1.0.2 have an AI edition as well as the afterburners on ships?

Well, I'm not forge, but I'm pretty sure 1.0.2 adds the new AI.

    • Many thanks to all, I've had a #@*$^% turbo the whole game and never needed to use it!

As Mr. Spock said "I've been a fool".

Also, I upgraded to the UE Cruser so now I'm off to win the game!!!

      Thanks again!

    • I've got a good strategy.
Forklift and Monty Python. Works every time. hehehe

    • There is new AI in version 1.0.2, definitely. Ships which are being pasted by a 'Monty Python' tactic will turn and fly away, rather than continue to get shot. It's not perfect; you can still deliver a Python... but it's a little harder.

One of the hardest things to get used to in 1.0.2 was that turrets also take up a gun slot. Although this doesn't make the game impossible, it does introduce a few anomalies, like the Lazira carrying less guns than the smaller, cheaper Arada.

It was like that already...wasn't it?

      I'm pretty sure it wasn't.
By the way, doesn't a turret have twice the power of a cannon?

Well, thing is, I never played 1.0.2 (except for maybe 10 minutes), and I'm used to turrets taking up a cannon and turret slot.

And not exactly. The blaze and phase weaponry has turrets with half the reload (so effectively, yes.) Neutron and Emalgha weaponry doesn't differ in power from turret to cannon.

    • In 1.0.1 a turret takes up a gun slot. That's okay though. I bet that defence pods would be very effective against a bunch of swarming fighters. I do not have 1.0.2 but I am sure someone has tried it and has an opinion on the matter.

Why are there no maroon ships?

    • U.E. Cruiser.
      5 neutron turrets.
      Dospect armour.
      Boo-yah!!
      I OWN 12 systems. 😄 😄 😄
Planetary defense is based on swarms of fighters.
      Use a repulsorbeam from Mira.

    • I see that you are loyal to the United Earths. I will suggest finishing all of the UE Side Missions, and do the Kirrim Prime Missions, then close the game and download ROTUE-Reign of the United Earth. It was made by UE Patriot. Those missions that you have done and will do are all of the requirements. Check the Mission BBS.

    • Join one of the strands before you do the Rock (we're talking about the Zachit missions, right?). It's easiest with the Igadzra, who give you that ridiculous Plasma Siphon, though I've also done it with a souped-up Azdara fighter--shoot at the bad guys, then fly away whenever your shields get too low.

I'm working on the Zidagar string now, but the Zidara is a woefully inadequate ship, IMO.

Voinian fighters are great easy-to-catch escorts when you head out to do missions in the Crescent. I recently did the Proxima Nebula missions with 5 Voinian fighters to back me up, and they beat the snot out of that Igazra before I even had the chance to get in there myself!

Wow. I knew Voinian fighters rocked at close range, but taking out an Igazra...
