Fifty Mechs had been fitted with slug-claw armament, and stood in a glittering, imposing array around the enclosure in which the slugs were held. Bomphur, lead scientist in slug research, had thought it best to operate from a position of strength.
Enough of the slug vocabulary had been learned to have a basic conversation, using the symbolic buttons on the boards in the enclosure.

Saraine's message arrived on Mamajama's screen next to some research she'd been doing in Old Earth Archives. It seemed that Psionic waves were identified by late twentieth century researchers as just another part of the electromagnetic spectrum, in the ultra-low-frequency region. Because they were so weak, they had been difficult to measure. Kirlian photography had begun to record the EM energy of living things, and by the mid twentyfifth century, the existence of the "psi" spectrum was generally accepted as being part of a "superspectrum" of electromagnetic energy.
"Nothing unnatural in nature," muttered Mamajama. This old research would be helpful to the Poch scientists working on the Singularity Beam. If it needed to change frequencies to "jam" the Acarra energy, they should be able to include the ultra low frequency psionic waves in the beam's range, effectively jamming the Acarra psionic energy.
She sent copies of the psi/em articles to Saraine and the scientists on Tolb, and included a private message:

Saraine, that's interesting that you're close to being a Gadzair. As you know, they were the race most expert at using telepathy in warfare from our own Galaxy. Try experimenting with the notion that psi energy is a natural part of the energy around you; you may be able to perceive it directly, or perhaps even manipulate matter with your mind. I have no idea what kind of training the Gadzair had, but perhaps you have some resources available to you. At any rate, if we tune the Singularity Beams to include ultra low frequency waves in their spectrum, it should work to jam the Acarran wavelengths. Also attached are the EM spectrum readings we recorded from our drone taping the battle in Dewe; that should help in knowing what frequencies the Acarra use in their weaponry.
I had another idea on the USHOV ships. My sources tell me that the Acarra progress through the hyperlanes really quickly on slipstream technology, but that they DO use the hyperlinks. This should still work with the idea we discussed earlier. Please have my scientists work on creating another prototype of the USHOV vehicle, incorporating a Singularity weapon. We will need to collaborate with the Zidagar, as they have the maps of the Acarra system, including the hyperlinks.

Admiral, I have attached all info that we have about the slug claw material and slugs. YOu are already in receipt of samples of that material. As far as psychics, the energy itself does seem to be real enough, and measurable, although weak and unreliable in humans. If you could contact the University of Edinburgh on Terra, and see what the latest things they are doing on the low frequency end of the superspectrum, with psi energy, it may be helpful to all of us.

Admiral Benden's Mayday call from Turgon came through next. "Zeldair, hey? Those Acarra are getting too d*amn close." Mamajama called all ships (except a force guarding the planet Poch) to go as quickly as possible to the Turgon system to aid in defense against the Acarra. Per Benden's request, she ordered the freighter to re-load the armed Mechs to take to the Turgon system ( if, that is, the slugs were not in full-scale revolt). She readied the Foster's Revenge , said goodbye to her family yet again, and proceeded into battle.

Production of more Ultra Slow Hyperspace Observation Vehicles (in conjunction with Zidagar and the Seraphim)- these are fairly simple adapted freighters...their main difference is their type of hyperspatial drive - they go 5-10 times slower than conventional hyperspace ships through hyperspace, and were originally designed as research vessels.
