    • Wave of Destruction, Ch. 4-7 (webstory)

      13 102 693

It's been 30 years since the Battle of Gadzair, and much has changed.

After the Azdgari attacked the UE and raided Paaren, Fear and Will forced the Voinians and UE to ally against the west.

With Azdgari help, the Hinwar and Emalgha rebelled, and developed a renewed anger against the Government now called the Coalition.

Immediately after the Voinian and UE alliance was finalized, several rogue pilot got together, and organized a massive revolt in southern coalition space, with the heretics capturing two massive Coalition Dreadnoughts, and a few planets taken.

While this was happening in the west, the Azdgari and their captured Igadzra strand brothers were becoming close, and the most of the hostility left, with raids on human space still not uncommon.

The Zidigar were overwhelmed with fear of the new azdgari govt, and cut themselves off from all other races for protection.

During this time, the Miranu and Renegade wars continued as always, with most of the Zacha simply hired as military officers for the Miranu, while a few others quit and formed a merc group, that still has close ties with their Miranu and Zacha friends.

During this whole time, no one, not even Skradz'Na, the Azdgari leader himself, knew the Milky Way would soon be under close examination by a race he and only he knew about, nor did he realize extent of the approaching Wave of Destruction that was about to take place....

Welcome to the WoD story topic. I will be gone for a good bit of tomorrow, so I started the story now.

      Happy Writing!

(Esponer, I say we start out with a battle to show these newbies how it's done. You'll take heavy damage, and it'll be more of a ship war than a capturing war, but it'll help your research... Think morale.)

    • In the central core command office of the Angel's Lair, ex-Commander Saraine- now simly one of the three Seraphim commanding the Dark Angels- examined his screens.
The largest, taking up one wall, showed the known galaxy, with floating insets for the Azdgari Empire and the area controlled by the Dark Angels.
The closest were sub-space links to the other Seraphim, Rasael and Raven.
Rasael, a stocky ex-Strandless half-Zidigar, half-Igadzra who had quickly risen through the ranks of the Dark Angels, spoke from the Dark Angel shipyards on Xarnes.
"Work on the new Aradas is going well." he reported. "Hulls are laid down now, and we're beginning to integrate the hardware."
Raven spoke up next. A brooding, mysterious Human woman, Raven had turned up suddenly one day offering to help the Dark Angels. As she was a genius in weapons design, ship design, and military tactics, Saraine had been quick to accept.
"Some information from our contacts in Miranu territory; they've developed a class of "suicide warships", automated CWs filled with antimatter."
Saraine swore. "Those *@#! things again! The Miranu are supposed to be a trading government, how can they trade if no-one trusts them!?" Saraine still bore a grudge against the Miranu since when they'd used Suicide Warships disguised as ordainary CWs in a fleet for the Dark Angels to destroy Azdgari, and most of the Dark Angel fleet in the process.
"Also, Admiral Benden has been thawed from cryogenics." Raven continued.
Saraine cursed with heartfelt anger. Benden had masterminded the Miranu's treacherous plan to create the Suicide Warships.
Putting that from his mind, he spoke.
"I, too, have news. There's a new Mercenary leader of the Merc. worlds near Miranu space, apparently working for them. Her name appears to be "mamajama" or something."
"A potential threat." Rasael growled. "If she's working for the opposing superpower, then we may end up in conflict."
"I was thinking she could be a valuable ally, myself." Saraine replied.
Raven looked as if she was deep in memory, and said nothing.
"Raven? Do you know something about this merc?" Rasael asked suspiciously.
"What? No, never heard of her." Raven answered, a little to hastily for Saraine's liking.
"Well, any other buisness to report?" Rasael asked.
"Hummm my technicians found a nearly-intact Zidara from the Battle of Gadzair." Saraine said. "They brought it into dry dock here, and managed to salvage a working Phased Beam. I was thinking, if we were to replace the phased crystal power source with positron energy generators, we'd probably be able to eliminate the fuel drain."
Raven nodded. "Send it to me, and I'll see what my researchers can do."
"Already done." Saraine replied. "It's on one of the new CWs, and should be in Emnin by now."
"Good." the Human replied. "Now, I've got some promising officers on Tollb. Have either of you got up-and-coming officers?"
"Akhanris is one of my better designers." Rasael replied. "Ex-Azdgari fellow, excellent designer, but he has an unfortunate tendency to vary from a fixed plan. Granted, so far all of his alterations have been very useful, but how am I going to know where everything is if I want to repair the thing?"
"Have him draw up his alterations on the plans." Saraine suggested. "Raven, you were telling us about your own promising officers?"
"One of my researchers,a Human/Hinwar hybrid named Raiessa, came up with a new design for Angelfire Cannon power coils today. Granted it doesn't have much effect on the battlefield, but it increases coil efficiency by about 30%. And that's only one of the clever little innovations she's come up with recently. It was a new power core for medical nanites yesterday.
Anyway, do you have any promising tacticians?"
Saraine shook his head. "Bunch of idiots, most of them." he said. "All the good officers are out on command."
"Ok, we'll change the advertising in the Strandless worlds, then." Raven said. "They're still our best source of experienced personell."
"Good." Rasael interjected. "Anything else to report?"
"Nothing." Raven said. "I'll send you both a memo soon."
"Nothing here, either." Saraine reported. "Saraine out."
He closed the channel, and sat back, rubbing his aching forehead. This job got so much more complicated every day

      ------------------

Azdgari Admiral Ekrund Yakuza walked slowly through the halls of the Azdgari base on Chak, the sound of his military boots making a constant clanking sound on the metal floor. His phase pistol at his side, the four stars on the left upper arm part of his uniform, signifying a full admiral, Yakuza was heading to his new flagship.

Quickly passing through the retina scan and DNA check, Yakuza walked into the main hanger. The massive structure was actually floating; it was built upon a massive artificial barge just off the coat, and proved quite useful for refueling warships, and now it was housing Yakuza's new flagship; the Predator warship Valhalla. It was a beautiful ship, much like the Azdgari Warship, except much enlarged engine sections, much improved weapons and ships, and some other different design modifications.

As the soldiers near the gangplank saluted to the old yet still capable admiral, Yakuza remembered the Battle of Gadzair, so long ago, when the Predators had made their first real appearance. They had proved quite useful in the battle against the highly-advanced Council Warships, and they were still being used even to that day.

Walking through the hallways of the new vessel, Yakuza's mind suddenly remembered something that he had not shared with anyone. The fight with the Gadzair soldier on the bridge, the strange council members with the mysterious crystal, the Mind that controlled the Council and forced the strands into an intergalactic war, and the one word which still haunted him to that day; Acarra.

He didn't want to tell anybody for fear of causing a mass hysteria, but even if he did try and tell the government, would they believe him? Many of his political enemies in the government were already looking for a way to remove Yakuza, and they could easily use this to do so. Could he use the captive Gadzair to prove his theory? No, they could stand even the most brutal torture; they would never listen to him.

But who were the Acarra? Why did they try and control the Council through "The Mind"? Yakuza thought that they were probably an alien race, far off, distant, controlling other races to do their bidding. How powerful were they? Would they attack the Azdgari?

Suddenly, Yakuza thought he heard a sound and spun around, breathing deeply. The corridor was empty, but the Azdgari was positive he had heard or seen something dark zip across the passageways. Taking out his phase pistol, Yakuza walked down the corridor, and quickly looked from left to right down the intersecting passages.

      Nobody.

Shaking off the dark thoughts, Yakuza started to walk back to the bridge. After a while of walking and thinking about how to defeat the Zidagar, he felt better, and the memory of the Acarra faded from his mind, though it could soon again resurface...

"Status report?" he asked as he entered the bridge.

"Shields and weapons at full power. Engines and all other systems are ready to go," reported the lieutenant.

"Very good. Power up the ion engines. Engage thrusters. Hanger Command; this is the Valhalla ; we are leaving port."

"Very well, Admiral Yakuza. Have a nice trip," the hanger command tower replied, and Yakuza smiled slightly.

"All ahead one half," he ordered.

"All ahead one half, aye, sir."

The Valhalla blasted out of the hanger bay, quickly gaining atmosphere as it shot up high into the air, soon passing through the clouds. Yakuza smiled as the ship vibrated slightly, going faster than the speed of sound as it prepared to exit the atmosphere of the moon.

Finally, it bursted through, and it was out into space. "All ahead full!"

The Valhalla shot forward, quickly escaping the gravity well of the moon, then stopping in space. Its engines glowed bright blue, and with a flash of light, it blasted into hyperspace...

      ------------------

OOC: That was just a little sort of background-development post of mine. Don't worry yourselves about Yakuza; I'm not going to control him any more than just saying what he has to do with the Gadzair. And yes, if you kill him, I'll remove you from the story. 😛 😉

    • Coalition of Worlds
      Location: Tientu

The Confederate's faint would usually have been followed by a general panic throughout both military and civilian gatherings. It was almost usual Coalition policy to fall to pieces at the hint of a cloaked Confederate fleet - considering that the Coalition's main power lay in their ability to incinerate enemy vessels on a conventional field.

It was the presence of Admiral Paryne that reassured the Coalition's battalion. Paryne was new to his rank, and had been assigned the post of Tientu's defence officer only a week before. He did, however, show considerable promise, and had some unconventional ideas as to how to deal with cloaked ships that were already catching on among the older, more experienced, yet more conventional of admirals.

When the Confederate fleet de-cloaked briefly to attract Coalition attention, a sensor sweep picked up their numbers; one hundred Lightnings, a number of carriers, and a Defender. From increased energy output, it was suggested that the Defender was the upgraded flagship of the Confederates that the Coalition had met several times in battle already.

Paryne ordered the fleet to be on standby. Orbital starports prepared to launch fighters and gunships upon the command, and the C.S.S Grimnir, Paryne's personal ship, a dreadnought, rose into near orbit of the planet, still under the relative safety the planet provided.

Drones within the system swept to meet at 805:423:549, co-ordinates relatively close to the planet, and prepared to leap upon the ships should they uncloak. However, it was the actions of a small group of other drones which marked Paryne's tactics as unconventional. Thirty or so drones dashed backwards and forth across the planet at full speed, seeming to use themselves to probe the system. Cloaked ships might not be able to be seen, but Paryne was confident that they could still be hit. He had other plans, of course, for a matter reflection device which would better locate cloaked vessels, but a mere admiral in defence of backwater Tientu could not suggest such a thing.

      Location: Zanat

The Coalition's relations with the Miranu were of a quiet peace, with limited trading between the two. However, orders had been sent to DSN-9608, from the president himself, that with the situation of the Azdgari, and the pirates, it would be profitable if the Coalition could secure an ally. A diplomat had been dispatched within four hours, the neat human with a knowing smile spending most of the time wondering what he was to say. For once, his orders had been very limited. "Make a usual pact with the Miranu, no threats."

When the Coalition scoutship entered Zanat, the diplomat, whose name was Takana, was shocked by how much more military Zanat now seemed. Only twenty years ago, the Miranu would have had nothing but half a dozen crescent fighters patrolling the system, and now, there was a defence fleet worthy of the Coalition.

Trying to keep carm, Takana sent out a hail to what he knew to be the Miranu's foreign office.

      (From the Coalition)
      (To the Miranu)

I am Foreign Minister Takana of the Coalition of Worlds, out from DSN-9608. We would like to contact your command over the matter of a permanent alliance or similar relations, and are also willing to make an exchange of embassies. In times of war such as these, alliances are difficult to find.

"We've been attacked, admiral," one officer reported even as he brought up a display of the area. The Confederate ships were now uncloaked. "Shields are holding."

Paryne nodded to himself, his face a mystery. "Send the drones on an attack sweep. One strafe only; we don't want any losses yet."

"AI?" asked the defence officer, who sat at Paryne's left side. In battle situations, the drone's movements would be co-ordinated from the C.S.S Grimnir, although could be switched back to planetary command quickly.

"Just give them a bloody nose," Paryne replied with a faint smile. "Don't target the fighters; I want everything on the carriers and the flagship. But no deaths yet."

"With all due respect, why, sir?" asked the defence officer.

"I've received word that a diplomatic envoy is to be sent to the Confederates, officer," answered Paryne. "We don't need any more blood on our hands for now."

      ----------------------------

The drones went from their sentinel to high speeds extremely quickly, charging into the Confederate's ranks and opening fire with their fourty sets of fifteen ion turrets. Damage incured was heavy, and due to the speed and care taken, only two drones were lost, both to the flagship.

The drones then wheeled around to the planet, while the defence fleet took up a position. Both fleets were still out of range of each other.

      (From the C.S.S Grimnir, Coalition)
      (To the Striker, Confederate)
      (No Encyption, in-system security)

I am Admiral Paryne of the Coalition of Worlds, in command of Tientu's defence fleet. I ask that you leave Tientu immediately - the Coalition do not wish to further military action against you. Leave this system now, or we will be forced to incur casualties among you.

Takana was escorted to the battleroom. He left his ion pistol outside the battleroom before entering. His crewmember, the lead pilot of the scoutship, did not come with him. Takana felt somewhat overwhelmed and alone in the Miranu's "battleroom".

"The Coalition have sent me to engage diplomatic relations with your impressive peoples," Takana begun, shivering slightly at the importance of his task. "We are willing to trade with you, and open up Miranu embassies throughout our space. A military alliance is of less importance to us - we would not seek you to go to war with our enemies - but our fleets would defend you as possible. I...am under the impression that an exchange of our technologies may also be advisable."

With that, Takana waited for a response.

      Location: Feviry

It was with considerable surprise that the independant system of Feviry found itself with visitors. A Coalition dreadnought, the C.S.S Freedom, accompanied by a small fleet of Warcruisers and Sharks, totally twenty ships, entered Feviry from DSN-2006. They quickly hailed the planet's government.

      (From the Coalition)
      (To the Feviry Government)

We would like to suggest that you ally with the Coalition to further yourselves. We can offer you trade prospects beyond your dreams, and the defence of the Coalition fleet against nearby pirate forces. You would be allowed to maintain your own government, but a Coalition command centre and garrison would be stationed here.

Feviry was the first in the Coalition's effort to expand their own space. They had no bad intentions in this - they truly would allow their governments to remain. The Coalition intended to protect every independant world in the southest of the known galaxy, at the cost of their surplus resources.

(To all Independant worlds in the south tip area, minus Feviry)

    • Mamajama sat at her cluttered desk, enjoying the view from her office over the golden fields of grain on Poch, in the Zimla system. Her position as head of the estate interfered with the mercenary work she actually enjoyed; however, the two enterprises together had kept the Jama family wealthy and influential for two centuries. She fulfilled her duties on Zimla's and Nemnel's Mercenary Council, and also her ritual roles as part of Poch's Farmer's Union.

One of her more annoying tasks was reviewing the estate finances; she had capable people in charge, chief of whom was Zota, the Miranu accountant sitting across from her. But today, Zota required her urgent attention, and she sipped her Zimza brew slowly, watching him over the steam from her cup.

"Zota, do I understand you to say that our farms can no longer support themselves?"

"With respect, Mamajama, they cannot. This drought has caused one third of the crops to fail, and installation of a new irrigation system will cost close to three million credits for each thousand hectare area. "

"If you cannot come up with at least thirty million credits from a mercenary job, within a season, thousands of your people will starve, Mamajama."

Later that morning, Mamajama composed messages to several governments.

When the Zacha protected your space, the Jamas were among the Ultimate Zachas. When the Battle of Gadzair was over, the Jamas helped the Miranu to regroup and reclaim their space. We were awarded the planetary governments of Zimla and Nemnel because of our services. We have a fleet of twenty cloakable Crescent Warships and 10 Miranu Gunships, equipped with Lysew Cannons, Turrets, and Repulsor Missiles. Now we are ready to serve your needs.

After the battle is over, the Pirate is left, and the smolderign remains of a once powerful warcruiser and it's fighters is drifting across the system, a dead hulk.

The Azdaras hail the pirate vessel.
      Message to: Coalition Pirates

We would be willing to fight to coalition beside you. We would benefit from coordinated attacks.
      Azdgari out
      End

The azdaras dart out, heading north. Suddenly they detect something odd.
They hurriedly send a message directly to REDch'igh, highest priority.

"Sir, this Patrol Shrak, and this message is a Code Green. There's something out here. Wow.. amazing! It appears to be.... Aaahhh!!!!!!!! Full Speed!!!! FASTER!!! Nooooooo!!!!!!"

"Sir, thats all we got. The whole azdara fleet was destroyed. We didn't get any other message, and the computer was shut down before it could send a detailed beacon. We have no clue where they were or what happened, short of that something chased down our upgraded azdaras..."
"WHAT?!!!! How can anything CHASE DOWN AN UPGRADED AZDARA????"
      "We dont know, sir."
"Damnit! We have to strike the Coalition soon! Rush our preparing fleet onto the Field!!"

"Our fleet is prepared. Attack where, sir?"
He looks at the map briefly.. "Curl towards.... towards DSN-4548!!!"
      "Yes, sir."

      -------------------------
The Coalition border station Starbase Seven in the DSN-4548 system is relatively calm. The defense fleet is buzzing freightors around, but are generally bored.
      Suddenly it all changes.

A Flash of light spreads through the system as a massive Azdgari fleet exits hyperspace. the 3 Azdgari carriers (similiar to azdgari warships with 10 azdaras and 5 miniaturized Azdgari Aradas) quickly empty their payload and retreat to launch their a SAE's from a distance, while the 45 launched ships form squadrons with the 30 Azdgari gunships (upgraded Igadzra aradas) and 15 (additional) azdgari Aradas, while the 9 Igadzras released salvoes of about 6 a SAE's each firing.

As the volley or weapons fire approaches the defenses, the Azdgari wonder if the 35 Coalition ships and 35 drones present will put up much of a fight against the
azdgari warfleet of just over a hundred vessels......

The defenders of DSN-4548 were hardy warriors, handpicked to be the best to deal with Azdgari threats. However, they were not prepared for such a large force, the likes of which they had never seen in their service.

The Azdgari concentrated their fire upon the drones, and quickly the drones were set to target rings around passing Azdaras. This tactic destroyed a number of Azdaras, but the drones were quickly falling to Azdgari gunships.

The Azdgari definately had the edge in the battle, and the Coalition realised that. The Coalition fleet fled to Aludra, and the commander of Starbase 7 gave himself up.

However, two Coalition dreadnoughts with fourty escort ships were on their way to the system.

Admiral Paryne was surprised to see the Confederate fleet disappear so quickly. He'd wanted a fight, he admitted to himself privately. This had been his first battle, and the other side had backed out immediately.

All was not lost, however. The Azdgari had attacked DSN-4548, and the C.S.S Grimnir had been called into action along the border. It was a pity that he had to surrender defence of Tientu so soon, but with the peace the Coalition would be proposing, a dreadnought wasn't needed along the border - or at least, not his.

Thus, the C.S.S Grimnir and five escort ships left for border action, still leaving Tientu with a reasonable garrison.

Meanwhile, the Coalition sent a message to what they thought would be the Confederates capital.

We, the Coalition of Worlds, formerly known as the Coalition of United Earth and Voinia, would like to offer a cease fire and peace treaty with your government. In previous times, hostility has existed between us, but there is no such cause for hostility any longer. We would both benefit from an end to this war.

As a sign of our respect for your cause, the planets of Dur and Ala in the system Durala shall be given over to your command. We ask that any movements through our space be uncloaked.

Would your government be interested if we remained here for a week or two, in hope that we might prove useful? We may make a raid on Iothe if we can find aid.

    • OOC:Esponer, what do you intend to do with this "graviton collector" thing? What's it's point? And how could it possibly reduce the life of the star simply by gathering up it's light?

Raven was silent as she reviewed the message. Outside, the sun shone brightly on the research compexes of Tollb; but a shadow had fallen over her soul.
To think that Mamajama thought the past could be put aside like that!
Mamajama had betrayed her personally, by revealing to the Zacha that she intended not to attack, and several billion people, by attacking herself.
How could Mamajama talk of what was in her heart? Mamajama had no heart.
Once, they had been the best of friends, but now she would have been happy if she'd never heard of Mamajama again.
Someone was shaking her by the shoulder.
Startled, Raven looked up to see Raiessa, one of her best researchers.
"Raven, is something wrong?" there was a concerned frown on Raiessa's face.
She shook her head. "Just old memories."
Raiessa looked worried. "Ah, well, I brought you the reports on the Phased Beam reverse engineering project."
"Thank you." Raven took the sheaf of reports, and pretended to look at them until Raiessa left. Then she slumped down on the desk, struggling to stem the painful memories

    • "Rahzio,Rahzio,Rahzio,Rahzio!",shouted the Voinian and Human Coalition Pirates on the planet Huron. Rahzio, the new leader of the coalition pirates gave a speech on his platform in one of his favorite cities of Huron. "Citizens and brothers",proclaimed Rahzio,"we must all unite. To unite we must have a certain basis,a certain platfrom that will bring us together and be strong with us against our enemy". The chant died down. Rahzio spoke again "We must all be the same in mind and in heart. I have started a new idea. This is not for selfish reasons but this idea will unite us. Forever,I have known that I would be the ultimate leader of the Pirates. It has been sought out to me by the creator of the Universe himself. Friends, the one thing that can unite us,the only thing that will unite us is worship of Brant. How do you worship Brant? Through me. Brant has appointed me to the position and he demands worship from his creatures. Other civilization look at us as insignificant trouble-makers in this huge galaxy. But I know that we will be more than this one day, they'll see."

Rahzio stepped off of his platform and spoke with his General of the Pirate Navy. he told the general of his plans to colonize DSN-114. The general ordered 2 fleets of ships to DSN-114 to begin building a station. Soon after that, word reached Rahzio from his ships in space that there was a message from the Azdgari.

*** Message to Azdgari : I accept your alliance. I would be honored to defeat the coalition alongside you.

      Azdgari

In DSN-4548, the Azdgari fleet was shocked when the Galactica ships retreated. The Igadzras and Carriers moved up, and took the last few drones out of order, before concentrating on the station. The station's shields rippled and flickered under the intense fire, before they died completely.
Azdgari fire was ceased, and the Igadzras and carriers docked with the station, releasing hundreds of Marines. A single engineer walked through, and placed a high-yield nuclear device within the power core of the station. The Station would blow up as soon as the shields we reactivated.
The Azdgari ships captured several Coalition soldiers, and the commander, before heading out and leaving the system.

Redch'igh grinned. His plan was working perfectly!
Soon the Coalition would be brought on it's knees by the combined efforts of the pirates and Azdgari!

    • The mech ships that Rahzio sent to DSN-114 had begun building a station on the system. The message from the Azdgari from their tech center was retrieved by a Coalition Pirate ship and sent to Huron Technology Headquarters. Rahzio's Tech Minister,a human, told him of the message from the Azdgari. "Contact the Huron Ambassador and have him report to the Tech Headquarters immediately.",said Rahzio. Rahzio began heading towards his ship to go to the Tech Headquarters. While he was walking he was confronted by an angry human. The human yelled curses at Rahzio. All of Rahzio's guards pulled out their Ion blasters ready to kill the man but Rahzio shouted "NO! Anyone who dare blasphem me shall pay accordingly". Rahzio grabbed the man and broke his jaw. Then he threw him to the ground and crushed his chest with his foot. Rahzio boarded his hip and headed to the Tech Headquarters. The ship had finally arrived. Rahzio walked inside and met with the Ambassador and the Tech Minister.

Rahzio told the ambassador to meet with an Azdgari ambassador to discuss an alliance. He then told the Tech minister to begin researching posible upgrades on the weapons used ny the pirates. They both did as they were told. Rahzio then made preparations for his next plan.
