    • How to turn the tide on turncoats?

quite sorry for the horrible pun-ish thing, any way please tell me how to defeat turncoats with an arada! i do have the cloaking device. Thanks a lot!!!

      I am Spartikus!!

      1. Sell ALL weapons.
      2. Buy 2 Phase Turrets
      3. Buy as many swivel phase cannons as you possibly can
      4. Stock your ship with as much shield and armor enhancers as you can (you should be able to get 1 dospect and 2 shield enhancers)
      5. Get the RCS upgrade, the Engine upgrade, and the Thrust upgrade
      6. Fly circles around turncoats while blasting them to the stone age and back

Simple as that. 🙂 Worked for me fine. Also very useful against Kraits (which you CAN outmaneuver) and Helians.

The only problem with this approach is that if you get a ship too much bigger, the (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~dsghosh/evosite/shipyard1.html#krait")krait(/url) swarm can be very annoying.

    • Do what I did. Buy a scoutship and get a turret with a couple of blaze cannons. Then do hit and runs on the turncoat which has slower recharge rate. That's how I do it.

    • I use these techniques anytime I have a highly maneuverable ship:

1.) Hold down "A" (or which ever button you have selected in your preferences for autopilot), hold down the up button (or the button you have designated for forward thrust), and hold down your primary fire button. As soon as the targeted ship is blown to smithereens by your circling barrage of firepower, instantly hit the key to select the nearest target and repeat the whole thing until everyone attacking you is dead.

2.) If you have a cloaking device and the first technique does not work because there are too many enemies, take off in one direction to string them all out and then activate your cloaking device. Your attackers will stop in their tracks until you reveal yourself. Fly back to the nearest attacker and come to a stop just behind him and simultaneously deactivate your cloak whilst firing away. Cloak yourself again and run some more. Repeat until your attackers are wiped out.

I know the second technique seems kind of cheap, but winning is everything. 🙂 What good is honor after you are dead?

    • 1 thing: Needle Jammer!

Or if you still got problems, after burner, 2 fuel pods, 2 phase turrets and you are ready. Use the after burner to keep away from the krait's weapons range while you blast them with the phase turrets.

<hits head> Argh! Of course! Why didn't I remember that?!? 😉 Yes, that is a VERY useful item in fighting turncoats. Needle Missiles are small and weak, but in masses they are deadly, and hard to evade at close range.

    • Note that if you trade in your ship for some other model, you'll lose the cloaking device forever.

The most important thing to do when facing a Turncoat or two is to deal with the fighters. Individually laughable, they can do you a lot of harm if you allow them to peck away at you while you fight the Turncoat. Stay out of needle range until you have destroyed the Kraits. Once the Turncoat's needles and fighters are all gone, the remaining target should present no great difficulty.

I hate the Krait swarms, they come at you like an army of the undead, ripping you to pieces and showing no mercy. Why did they make so many missions that deal with these things?!?!

    • Because if it wasn't any challenge it wouldn't be much fun. Plus you get the extra sense of satisfaction from having done something you thought you might not have been able to do. At least I think this is the case.

    • For Human renagades I have a bit of a love for Needle missiles. With a needle jammer you can sit out of blaze range and pile missiles into them. All you need is between 15 and 45 tons of weapon space and you can hold 250 missiles. Vs. Kraits it will take either 5 or 6 needle missiles (depending on how many launchers you have) and you can fire on them as they close, whiltst you fly off in the opposite direction.

Needles can also be used to take out cresent warships, when used in sufficient quantities, but finding replenishments in the cresent is nigh on impossible...

    • And don't forget adding afterburners! Using them on a speed upgraded arada, or even better: a speed upgraded captured adzgari arada, you can easily outdistance the krait pack and slowly pick off the close ships with ease.

It's a shame to think that I actually played through EV and EVO without discovering how cool afterburners were. After replaying them, I found out how wrong I was.

Plasma Siphons are essentially useless and a pathetic weapon, especially for something that you can ONLY get by doing special missions (in this case, for the Igadzra). True, it can be useful against Azdaras and Kraits, but I prefer rapidly taking them out with 4-5 phase turrets.

    • At the risk of sounding like a bad sport/cheater/spawn of Hell, if you have phase turrets, the extreme short range of the turncoat's blaze turrets make it incredibly easy to monty - python.

Other than that, I tend to use hunter missiles or SAD modules.

    • The nuetron turrets are good against the turncoats fighters cuz they are long range and do a ton of damage.

    • I was mainly thinking about the kraits, but sometime seeing burning cream all over the screen is interesting...

In a maneuvrable vessel, turning around the mass of Turncoat can be easily done and thus keeping your ship away from the Blaze weaponery.

    • I don´t know is this right place to ask, but I´d like to hear some tactics to win
that battle on Rock. My ship is currently Crescent warship, but I don´t know is
the best ship in that battle, because fleet of about 25 crescent fighters with it isn´t easy at all with large and slow Crescent warship. At start, I thougt that SAD modules would be good, but asteroid belt is little bit too dense.
