    • Controller?

Are there any USB controllers that work with Override?
If there are whats the best?

    • It would probably be possible to find a game controller that you could make work, but since there are so many different controls in the Escape Velocity games, you'll probably ultimately find the keyboard more useful.

Oh, and welcome to the boards.

    • It seems like there may be too many functions. Let's see, you have to hail - both planets and ships, accelerate, turn, launch fighters, assign fighters to targets, recall fighters, tell escorts to stay put or let them join again, fire your weapon and your secondary, jettison cargo, select nearest enemy, select next target etc, etc, and there is more yet. Plus you couldn't use a controller when you land on planets to do stuff since you have to use the mouse to click and it's the same interface when hailing. I guess you could set up a controller just for flying though and put primary controls on it - joystick for turning and stuff + other buttons for other important functions.

Anyway, I hope I haven't overwhelmed you. It's also nice to see a new face, ๐Ÿ™‚ Welcome to the boards.

    • You can use USB Overdrive, a shareware program for Macintosh whereby one may configure one's joystick so that each button has a keystroke assignment. I use the Saitek Cyborg 3D joystick or the Hammerhead FX gamepad, depending on my mood. Either one has several buttons. Of course, neither has sufficient numbers of buttons to assign every keystroke used in EVO, so I do have to use my keyboard occasionally. However, the functions I use the most are right where I want them during space battles.

I got USB Overdrive off of a Mac Addict CD, but I am sure you can find it at (url="http://"http://www.macupdate.com")www.macupdate.com(/url) or (url="http://"http://www.versiontracker.com")www.versiontracker.com(/url) or throught CNET's download.com. If not, try a google search.

You can use USB Overdrive just fine without paying for it, although there is an annoying nag message similar to that in EVO. It only costs about $10, so support shareware.

    • I agree that there are WAY to many things you have to do in EVO to try and cram them all onto a controller. However, I have an original iShock gamepad from MacAlly which I use for most of the critical functions. At least the functions that a rookie like me considers critical. ๐Ÿ˜„

I have R, SPC, W, SHIFT, J, M, Left, Right, 180 Reverse, Thrust, and L on the pad with about 4 buttons left over for functions I don't appreciate at this state of my development.

I still am getting my butt handed to me by renegade posses that dog my every step but THAT is not a problem with the gamepad. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Good luck!

    • Just an update. I got the ishock II. 17 programmable buttons.
Works great for fighting and standard function needs.
Found it for $27.00 online, just like the PS2 pads
