They nailed it pretty well, but I'll elaborate a bit (I always do that :D).
The AI in EVO has a certain range, or perimeter around its ship that the player must be within in order for the computer to start firing. If you breech this perimeter then the computer will continue to fire until you are slightly out of weapons range, so in order to monty python effectively you must not have the enemy firing at you before you start. In a turreted ship you sit still with your back facing the enemy (he must be slower) and allow him to gain on you. Once he is just barely, * barely * in range of your weapons you accelerate and match his speed so that he is not falling behind or gaining ground on you. If you get within his activation range however, you must then pull completely out of range and start again. You can use an unturreted ship and just face backwards, but it is very complex and you really don't need complexities when you have an Igazra on your tail :). It is funny, a lot of the players on the board here discover it before they come here and then figure out that is an established thing - well, that's my story at least.
Hope that helps :).
