Just wondering, what would the mission string continue like had you actually delivered the "diplomaka" password to the Rigellian operative on Rigel VI instead of delivering the message to the real rigellian dissident?

It wouldn't - 'Diplomaka' would confuse everyone.
On the other hand, if you had delivered 'demokratia', to the Rigellian operatives, bad things would have happened.
Many people do actually give the message to the wrong agents, but I've never heard of anyone giving the wrong message before on this mission.

Interesting game, are you able to work for different sides? How long/extensive/many missions does frozen heart have?

At full tilt it should take about 48 hours to complete. Most of the missions are multi-part, so they take a lot longer than 'pick up cargo, go there, drop cargo' missions.
The Demokratia mission is about 3% of the way in, if that gives a better picture.
You don't really align yourself to one particular government in FH. Saying any more would be to give it away.
