    • Freighter Challenge

Has anyone completed any of the Central Objectives in a Freighter? Tell us which freighter and how you had it set up. I've found this to be even more difficult than the 'Crew of One' challenge due to the snail like speed! I'm currently in a MiranuĘFreighter. I am going to try the UE Freighter next. See you in the EscapeĘPod!

      Or coughupgradecough Emalgha Freighters?

    • Does is count if you mass expand the freighter to no cargo holds? 😉

    • A Miranu Heavy Frieghter with all of it's cargo space used up my massive upgrades can kick any ship in the game's ass. Why you'd want to do this is beyond me, but it can be done. 🙂

    • You know what would be really cool... a ship named the Human Freighter with 200 shields and 20 salvo rockets!

    • Which ships would be allowed?

      • UE freighter
      • Voinian supply ship
      • Miranu freighter
      • Miranu heavy freighter
      • Emalgha Freighter

Other possibilities, but would be a bit easier...

      • Miranu Courier?
      • Cargo transporter?
        (* freight courier?)

Just as an aside, shouldn't the UE transporter regen fuel,
since it uses solar panels, like the UE freighter?

Good grief! Someone else who thinks the UE transporter is a good ship! We are few and far between... most folks around here seem to think that the slower, smaller, less well shielded or armoured, more expensive piece of junk - the scoutship - is a better buy. I thoroughly enjoy staying in a transporter until I can afford an Arada and upgrades... but I wouldn't want to be tackling all the central objectives in it. Maybe the Voinian War would be okay... definitely not the nebula penetration missions. Can you imagine that swarm of kraits coming after you? Gaaah!

Earlier this year, I downloaded Fourth Reich and started a new pilot. I was so keen to go and explore the new systems that I didn't bother upgrading my ship further, and went there in a UE Transporter. Ow. Some Fourth Reich battles are ludicrously hard, even in over-powerful Fourth Reich ships. In a Transporter, you need a death wish. It's easy to get bored of that "weep weep weep weep kaboom" sound.

Perhaps you're confusing Escape Velocity - in which the scoutship is worth having - with Override... in which the scoutship is a flying coffin. Or do you feel that the UE Scoutship is every bit as good as its EV counterpart?

I've used the UE Scoutship quite successfully, although I don't know that it's as good as the Krydanti one in Escape Velocity.

    • Cargo Transporter > Scoutship.

But personally, it's the scoutship for me. Handling, looks, shielding (I prefer shields over armour), forward cannons, and range.

The Transporter has pure speed, armour, a turret slot, cargo space, and the element of low cost.

It's the players choice. I think the Cargo Transporter is better, but I still pilot a Scoutship.

However, I note that the Transporter can make a Crescent Fighter quite dead with only human upgrades (head on head, no human advantages)

PPPS: If we take a UE Cruiser and give it lots of cargo space, can we pretend it's a freighter if we rename it "UE Freight-Cruiser"?

PPPPS: Is this the correct way to make additional PSs?

I was always bad in Algebra...

My UE Freight Cruiser is awesome! You max out the cargo holds, then use lots of Mass Expansions to get loads of weapon space!

PS: That's the right way to add additional PS's

PPS: My Crescent Warship still rocks.

    • Yeah, the freight-cruiser is my ship of choice early on. After that, I wait until I can some of the better Crescent ships, like the Warship or the Igazra. I enjoy the balance it gives. And, outfitted right, it can take on a good-sized swarm of Renegades.

PS Where did this algebra thing come from? That's just a little pointy thing, why, does it have significance in math or something?

PPS I am also using the correct way to add more P, uhhh, P, S's...??

PPPS I'm proud of myself! 🙂

      " > " means "...is greater than..." Like 5x>2y or even 2>1.

Anyway, are you confusing the Freight-courier (UE, 1m credits) with KTwaF's customised 'Freight-cruiser'? Big thing with five red fins and lots of battle scars... probably a rather expensive way to ship cargo around the galaxy, but useful when your cargo absolutely, positively has to get through.

    • OK. I have no life. What exactly are the rules for this new challenge. (I knew this day was coming).

P.S. I use the scoutship 'cause I like the range. My sister uses the transporter. Both work well. They are both good ships just in different ways.

P.P.S. Having now upset both sides I'll go and hide in a big deeo hole.

P.P.P.S. (or post, post, post, script) Would someone please, Please tell me if anyone managed the Crew of One on Strict. I missed about three months of posting.

No. I mean the Freight-Cruiser, my name for a UE Cruiser with a lot of cargo space.

    • These are the ships that I believe should be allowed.

      • UE freighter
      • Voinian supply ship
      • Miranu freighter
      • Miranu heavy freighter
      • Emalgha Freighter

The criteria is a ship that is painfully slow to start with and has only a few gun slots.
Only 1 Emalgha Upgrade and 2 Mass Upgrades.
Please respond with recommendations. No Drop Bears Allowed!

    • Yeah, I did mean the freght-courier, thanx VoinianAmbassador. But the math thing was more sarcasm, sorry I didn't make that clear. Taken too much math already and much more is on the way for me! 🙂

And the freight-courier is expensive, but at that point in the game, I'm getting bored shipping cargo and want to be able to fend for myself. So I pick up one of those babies, upgrade it to kazoo and trade in blaze turrets for phase turrets, and suddenly I can start killing, uhhhh, brain freeze, those ships that launch kraits. Oh, turncoats! Yeah! And you can still do plenty of shipping mission on the side. It's not as balanced as it could be, but I have fun in it.

Well as I see it the problems will be warships and fighters. (Well duh.) The most important quality for the freighter will be speed. If you are faster then the warships can be defeated by hit and run attacks (slow, boring but ultimatly successful). Fighters, who will be the greatest problem should be taken out by M. Defence Pods. I give it a go once I finish my latest assault on Crew of One.

    • I believe that the MH Freighter and Voinian Supply ship both have 3 turret slots, so it's not like they can't be armed well enough to fight like a lightly shielded and slow warship.

(does the Emalgha freighter have 4 turret slots? I forget)
