    • Dominating a planet

So I've worked my way up to a nicely outfitted CW and all I have to do (heh) is destroy the Pariah outpost and defeat the group at Mavs. While I figure out how to do that (ha!), I thought maybe this was a good time to learn how to dominate a planet.

I tried to dominate Gorky, and while everything was going fine (more or less), I gave up because it seemed like it was going to take forever.

      Could someone tell me:

      • how many ships usually defend a planet?
      • is there some trick to dominating a planet -- like I have to kill all the ships currently out there before they respawn?
      • are there any easy planets to start out with?

      Thanks.

      ------------------

    • The number of ships defending planets has a large range - from 1 Krait (Meria in the Sumer system) to I think about 190 Crescent Warships and their fighters (Council Station in Gadzair). The ships come in waves of 4, as you will have noticed, and you just have to keep killing them until new ones stop coming - I think new ones just keep coming when you kill one ship. When no more come, communicate with the planet again and demand tribute again - then they will start paying you, about 1000 credits / day for most planets.

Easy planets to dominate include Meria, as above - also Feviry next door to that.. and the Emalgha systems.. and one Voinian system to the northwest of their space, which has a fleet of UE shuttles, cargo transporters and freighters - very scary as you can imagine - good luck and be patient :)!

    • Actually, it's between 1000 and 3000. Another trick is to get lots of fighters/escorts. Defence fleets will only seek after you and if you go pretty far away you can just let your escorts take 'em out.

    • When attempting to dominate planets, take a full force of escorts along with you. Preferably, each of your escorts will be equipped with fighters. My planet-dominating fleet varied (as a result of casualties) during the Crescent campaign, but typically comprised two Azdgari warships, three Zidaras and a Crescent Warship (ex bounty hunter).

Don't feel ashamed at letting your escorts do most of the fighting for you. They aren't being shot at - you are! Charging into the fray, even in an Igazra, will you will eventually run out of shields, and the business of EV warfare becomes really dull when you have to play on the defensive while 500 points of shields are recharged. Besides which, if you fly near your escorts, they might get hit by gunfire aimed at you.

Your approach should be to demand tribute while a long way from the planet. A defense fleet may launch up to six vessels (I think that's the maximum), and then launch new ones to replace any losses incurred. Launched in this way, enemy ships will become strung out in a long line. Make sure you remain on more-or-less the same bearing from the planet! This forces every defense fleet ship to run the gauntlet of your escorts. By the time they reach you, a burst of phase fire should finish most anything.

If you're using a 'Python tactic, remember to fly back towards the planet (keeping on the same bearing) during quiet times. Otherwise, you might find yourself bouncing off the edge of the system in mid-combat, which is disorienting and can lead you to suffer damage.

One final word - make sure your ship is equipped with weapons which the defense fleet use. Against some planets' fleets you can run out of guided weapons very easily. Plundering your foes will help to keep you in fighting shape.

Planetary defense ships cannot be disabled.

    • Unless your fighting a Planet that has Warships that launch fighters as the defence fleets. If the fighter is able to be disabled (The UE fighter and the Vonian Fighters come to mind) you can board it if it came from a warship, no matter where the Capital ship came from. I know i couldve rephrased that better, but its 2 in that morning and im running out of Cuervo

    • One final tactic, which is very cheap but usually works, is to but a ship with fighters, launch them all, buy another ship, do it again and keep repeating this till you max out the number of ships in a system (36 anyone?). This costs a lot of credits, the easiest way is to put a krait bay on something like a helian. Once you have maxed out the ship count the planet will launch one ship. Blow it up and then claim tribute. That will be it. Never done the whole galaxy in EVO, only parts but using the same tactic I on all but one planet in EV (and it's not a Sol system planet). Like I say, cheap, but effective.

    • Actually I used a similar tacic in a UE Cruiser, but instead of selling the ship I bought a krait bay and got extra kraits from disabled Turncoats, which I destroyed before they could launch all 3. It took me a while but eventually I had the complete set... Of course it took ages to send them all out...

    • The easiest way to dominate a planet in EVO is to do the following. 1) Always travel with a full fleet of escorts (preferrably ones with fighters). 2) Make sure that you have the UE cloak (if you don't, there are always plugs that let you get it back). 3) Go to the system you wish to dominate and attack an innocent bystander (but don't kill it) so your escorts launch their fighters. 4) Demand tribute from the planet. By this time there should be enough fighters in the system that the ships coming from the planet will be unable to launch any of there fighters. 5) Cloak and watch your escorts kill the enemy ships. Using this and similar tactics, I was able to take over the entire EVO galaxy.

    • Aben Zin's tactic of looting Kraits from disabled Turncoats is valid, but he's doing it the hard way!

Buy a tractor beam, and go to war with a race whose fighters have armour. The UE are ideal. Disable a bunch of fighters, and their mothership too. Use the tractor beam to pull the fighters over their carrier/mothership. This causes them to dock with the mothership. THEN you board the mothership, and choose to plunder ammo. You can have 36 UE fighters aboard your UE Cruiser in no time! Takes a damn long time to launch 'em all, mind...

I don't normally advocate cheating, and this is definitely a form of cheating... but try it once if you want. Or if the only place you haven't dominated yet is Council Station.

    • I captured an Vonian Cruiser and went straight to the agardzi systems. It was so easy. And it didn´t get harder because i got alot of CW that tried to kill me 🙂 The voinian cruiser are super powerfull in all systems expept UE and Emalgha because their weapons doe more damage to the hull.

    • I dont want to brag or anything, oh wait, yes I do , but I have this file in which I've dominated every planet except for about seven or 8 (I hate spelling out eight, its not to long , or hard to spell but whenever I look at Eight in spelled form it looks wierd, do I spell eight wrong, no, its just that eight is a wierd word and thats what I have to say on spelling eight)And I think that I make about 270000 dollars a day in a slow ship so naterally I have about 1800 million credits in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (and dont say stuff like "oh, its acually 1.8 billion" Why dont you make that amount of money and see how it dis plays it?)

    • the first planet i always dominate is mavs.

      these are the steps:
      1. get a krait bay and load up with 3 kraits (you need kraits, which are faster than c. fighters or aradas).
      2. go to the renegade system north of mavs and hire 6 krait escorts.
      3. go to mavs, and--very important--tell your escorts to hold position.
      4. disable every ship you can. it will work out to about 5. this will keep new ships from jumping in and distracting your escorts.
      5. go to the edge of the system, launch your fighters, and demand tribute.
      6. keep hitting 'r' and 'f' keys, to make sure your kraits keep selecting new targets.

    • Without using any fighters, or escorts, the easiest planets to dominate are the Strandless planets, like Sumer. I have all of the Strandless planets dominated with the except of South Tip Station. I don't bother with any more, cuz those give me enough cash flow anyway.

    • Azdgari are pretty easy too.

And Voinian Earth, one of my files had every system except Gadzair. And I know exactly how we both did it.

    • Yeah, well, I would've done them all if it wasnt for the fact that I downloaded the newer version of evo and never got back to the old one. you should just finish up that system.
