"You don't trust me, and I honestly don't blame you," Skyblade said to the human pilot. "We Voinians have truelly earned a reputation as ruthless murderers across the known galaxy."
Zin seemed to agree, though the expression on his face didn't change.
"But," Skyblade continued as he leaned back in his chair, "You can't blame us all for the Voinian Empire and its cruel reputation. If I remember your human history correctly, there was once a dictator named Hitler who ruled the German people. This was in World War II, I believe?"
Zin nodded in agreement.
Skyblade went on. "The German people, as you probably know better than I, were regarded as a tyrants. They killed millions of innocent people, am I right?"
Zin again nodded, a bit surprised that a Voinian commander knew human history so well.
"But again, not all of the German people were like this. Some hated Hitler, even outwardly opposed him. They even lost their lives for it..."
"What are you implying?" Zin asked.
"What I am implying, human," Skyblade said, leaning forward, "Is that my government is a dictatorship, just like the Nazis who ruled Germany hundreds of years ago. I was opposed to the rise of the emperor, but was forced into military service."
"Go on," Zin responded.
"I am still in wander as to how I have such a high-ranking position," Skyblade continued. "I would think that my government would have discovered my insurrection-like behavour years ago. But instead, the Emperor has placed me in command of the eastern front operations."
"Then why are you fighting us?" Zin said out of curiosity.
"Because, I fight for the good of Voinia, my homeland. What I fight for has nothing to do with the dictatorship which runs our empire. Just like many of the German soldiers who fought during the second human World War, I do not devote my fighting skills to the emperor. I can tell you right now that if my soldiers or crew were listening to my words, I would be arrested and killed for the highest treason."
Skyblade sipped from a strange greenish drink at his desk before going on.
"But I fight you humans as a worthy and respected opponent. If you think about it, your race would only end up doing the same thing the Voinians have done in the future. It's just a matter of time before every race slips into some form of dictatorship. When, and if the Voinians win this war, I would happily kill the emperor myself."
Zin couldn't believe what he was hearing. He could personally have Skyblade arrested and killed if he passed this information to any of the Voinian crew members.
"Now," Skyblade said in a warmer tone, "You know of my background and intentions. It has been most pleasant finally meating a human, and I hope you've learned something today about the Voinian people." With that, Skyblade extended his hand. "This is the way the humans do it, correct?"
A moment later, Skyblade hit a button on his desk, and two Voinian soldiers entered the room. "Escort the human pilot to room 354. I find no reason to lock him on a prison cell."
Skyblade turned to Zin. "I trust you'll find our crew quarters amusing compared to human counterparts. I also trust that you won't try anything funny. I will try to arrange and have you brought back to your people in the future, but do to current plans, I can't do that quite yet."
