    • Voinian Tactics

Much has been written about the different tactics used by players during their different pilots. However this post is about the tactics of the computer against you the player. The first one I will provide concerns Voinians. Voinan Frigates and Cruisers will only use their rocket launchers against you when you are dirrectly in front of them in EVO 1.0.1. Check it out for yourself. They will not fire their neutron turrets at the same time they fire rockets. This means it is safer to fly in front of a Voinian as long as you have shields. Also, the Voinian Dreadnought only fires its rocket when your shields are down. This is just some food for thought. I hope some others can add to this topic.

      ------------------
Why are there no maroon ships?

    • And their fighters never shoot on you, if you are in a miranu heavy freighter

      ------------------

    • I am not sure that what you said about the Dreadnought only firing its rockets when your shields are down is true. It seems to me that it only fires its rockets when it is low on armor. It didn't seem to care about what my shield/armor status was.

      ------------------
You know you want it. It's (url="http://"http://www.cheese.com")cheese(/url).
If you can't afford a sandwich you can't afford explosives.

    • me never noticed that before..
      good point about the dreadnought...

The Future never was, yet is always to be, no one ever sees it, nor ever will. And yet it is the confidence of all to live and breathe on this blue and green terrestrial ball.

    • It is true that Voinian (AI) tactics stink, Jubee. Their AI isn't really worse that the others, but when combined with extremely slow ships, it leaves them very vulnerable. A human in control of a fleet of Voinian ships would want to cluster them together, but the AI's always get strung out in a line, and picked off one by one. Especially if the player is cruel enough to use a Monty Python on them.

If I were in command of a fleet of Voinian ships, I would want them to adopt a tight 'box' formation, moving at the speed of the slowest ship and moving any damaged ship into the middle of the 'box' so it can't be finished off. I would probably want to get hold of a number of captured ships as well, so I would have a reserve of faster craft to use against enemies who wouldn't fight 'fair'. If anyone wants to develop a plug that toughens up the Voinians as enemies, that would be my advice.

I always found it hard to use a Monty Python on Voinian Frigates or even Cruisers, since their weapon's range is much higher than that of blazes, and rockets can be used at range much better

    • One thing that hurts Voinian ships is their inabilty to fire secondaries and primaries. I think this has something to do with the way the rocket turret is set up. It takes up turret slots. If this was changed then the Voinians would be a heck of a lot more dangerous.

Once you free the Hinwar (or take over a voinian planet), you'll be able to buy neutron cannons and turrets. Once you have these, you'll be able to do the monty python on pretty much anything, so long as the other ship isn't faster than you are.

    • Or if you finish the Paaren station missions. Oops.

Yea, I know, but I don't like Neutron weapons, especially the cannons, because of their weight and the fact that you can have only three, I think, of them. The turrets are too slow to be really effective against fast Strand fighters, and their weight is also extremely high. AND, what I forgot to post earlier, the monty python is hard to use on Voinians because they will most likely stop and fire rockets rather than follow you when you try the maneouver, at least that's my experience

    • I think the Vikimedigies should use their rockets at long range.. the morons...

    • Alien? Havn't seen you in a while. I think I've used more gigatons of nukes on you for spelling then the rest of the universe combined. 😛 And we do use rockets long range. Do the Rescue defector missions. You'll be fleeing from long range rockets constantly.

    • Now this brings back memories. This is the first time I have seen Alien and LV spar in eons. Back when I was new to these boards, these two were at each other on about every 3rd topic that had more than 10 replies. sighs

Oh well, back to business. There already is a plug (somewhere in the addons page) that makes the Vikimedigion ships tougher like VoinianAmbassador said.

    • If you have phase weaponry, you can monty python a Voinian ship, you just have to be pretty careful.

      Not quite. 🙂

Actually, I don't know exactlly how long you've been here so I can't say that for sure, but I don't think of you as an old fart. Not yet anyway...

Oh, and about 'fleeing from long-range rockets' - I never have to do that. The rocket turrents aren't very good at shooting the rockets in the general direction of the target, and even in a UE Destroyer I can weave inbetween 90% of the rockets. I almost never flee from them. I just sit around and run in circles around the Vikimedigion ships and let the morons whaste all thier rockets tring to hit me 😛

and very patient - Phase weapons do a really poor job on armor.

    • Yeah, Hunter missles do suck.

Well, this has been a nice reunion, but it seems Alien's left. Oh well...

BTW, a little way down the road I'm going to be working on a plug that, among other things, moves the game 200 years into the future. In the final UE/Voinian conflict in this plug, I was planning to have a huge battle in Svass. You would have the UES Incontrovertable and the Borb(both dropping in unexpected), one really famous pilot from each side, the player, all over a fully armed and armored Svass station. The winner is up to the player.

Anyway, I thought it would be cool if you and Alien were the two famous pilots. Just thought I should ask first.
