    • Karma really doesn't matter. Of course it's nice to have it, but you know what? I answer questions and post topics because I like to not because I'd get karma for it. I have fun on the webboards. If the mods choose to give me karma I appreciate it, but I really don't mind if I don't. I have fun here and that is the most important thing.

    • Im sorry if I have offended anyone on the banter and brawl board, and I'm sorry to clutter up the developers corner with such drivel as this, but please hear me out as I am unable to post on the Banter and brawl board any longer. If it means anything at all to the moderators, I honestly promise to never swear on here ever again, and sorry if the last post gave anyone ideas to start cheating the censor system. Even so, I think it was Stan that once said: "Horrible deplorable violence is ok, as long as no one says any naughty words." I'll just leave everyone with that thought. I just find it a strange moral issue. We can make games, such as EVN for example, with themes such as:

      1. War
      2. Crimial Activity
      3. Xenophobia
      4. Plagues
      5. ect etc etc

but it is considered wrong to say a bad word when we feel like we might want to express ourselves. Of course, an articulate person can find other ways, but what happens to personality when we are all restricted to normal language? I know many who are good people but ocasionally feel like saying what they actually think. For a board based apon a the principle of free expression, such as this one, I find this expression harder and harder to acheive as I become familar with the workings and the politics of the boards.
And how can a channel in a banter and brawl discussion board be locked from further posts? Although there was a purpose behind my post, even if there wasn't, it wouldn't stop people from making intelligent replies to it. I didn't see anyone complaining about my last post except for the moderators. I know they are just trying to do their jobs, but maybe they should think more about the needs of those on the boards, for which they have a responsibility, and less about their own personal agendas. I beleive I have a valid argument here, and I would love to discuss this topic in an open and civil fashion, as conversations tend to be discussed on this web board from what I have seen, without a great need for outside control or moderation.

i couldn't agree more! When i was new and i learned about karma i kep thinking:
that'll get me karma! That's definatley gonna get karma!

now I just like being here and talking to all the people here and helping out. Give me karma if you want but what's it do? It puts a number under your name with a few good words and that's all!

      Inappropriate language is another matter.

Remember, the plug-ins here are being hosted on Ambrosia's servers, not yours. If you'd like to make a plug-in filled with expletives, feel free to do so. Just use your own server, please.

Similarly, the web board is also hosted on Ambrosia's servers. Nobody is in a position to dictate to Ambrosia how its servers should be used other than Ambrosia itself.

Especially number one...If members were not allowed to discuss war, then most of the Ambrosia forums would likely have half the posts they currently do. Last time I remembered, games like EV, Override, Ares etc. were extremely war based, and being unabled to discuss war would basically mean you couldn't talk about the those games....

Hmm. It's never worked that way for me. I just say something that seems appropriate to say, and then I'm surprised when a moderator comes along and gives me karma for it. On reflection, I can usually see why they did, but I'm still surprised when I see the "Posting Praise" message in my mailbox.

I remember a mod who said that you could obtain karma if you do a good action, and only if this action wasn't made to get karma.

    • Karma...
If you're an avid and well behaved poster, you're bound to get some karma sooner or later.
5 out of 6 of mine I earned through submitting well written stories to the Cythera Chronicles forum. The other one I earned from announcing someone else's chronicle had been posted when the moderator was having trouble posting.

For the record, all of my karma was given to me by Slayer, who is one of the oldest and greatest moderators. (Not that i would mention any non-great mods, :))

BTW, I wouldn't want a special name for myself. I witnessed andrew's naming spree first hand and it was not pretty. The names aren't as cool as they look. How would you like to wake up each morning, turn on your computer, only to see:

      Horse Fondler

      I rest my case.

    • Simon there are places where swearing is and is not considered taboo. It all depends on where you are. If you are in a private conversation, then feel free to. But swearing is not appropriate in public.

    • I've managed to go 600 posts without having my Karma touched, and I'd like to keep it that way. The trick is to add lots of smilies, :), ;), :D, and :p, to your spam. Nobody feels bad if you insult them respectfully :). Smilies make it all better ;).

And always remember, whatever you said during the message including saying bad things about someone's mother, are all made better by that little smilie. 😉

Lots of smilies could be (very) annoying, especially when people you "insult" don't like them. So be careful.
