Ah, here we are - the traditional starting point of any good and cheezy space story.
This is not the story I wrote before, but a new one specifically for this thread.
Captain Ritarn Tizj'vat lounged in one of the booths of the bar on The Rock. He had selected one of the darker, more private booths with the result the he was lounging in near pitch black because you couldn't get much darker than the bar on The Rock. He did a quick casual 180 of the bar, just in time to be staring right at the phase bolt that inexplicably planted itself in the chest if a rather unfortunate patron. Intrigued, Ritarn watched as a dark figure sprang up out of the gloom and relieved the unfortunate victim of what appeared to be a wallet. He glanced at his chronometer.
Ten minutes to go.
Five.
Suddenly the wall opposite from where he was sitting wasn't there. The reason it wasn't there was that it had erupted in a massive shower of sparks and flame. There was a loud noise too, but Ritarn didn't notice.
His first thought was wasted on hoping the the blast had incapacitated the bartender in some nasty way, since he would be able to help himself to a free drink or two.
His second thought was that the people coming through the opening in the wall were not the people he had expected.
Before he knew what was happening, Ritarn was surrounded by men holding hand weaponry that looked like it could have been substituted for Freeport's entire anti-ship arsenal and still gotten the job done just fine, if not better. What he noticed first, however, was the nasty, evil, sneering face leering at him through several inches of gloom. The profoundness of the sneer gave Ritarn such a fright that he jumped out of his seat only to crack his head on what he found to be the barrel of a particularly vicious-looking edition of the popular Phaserupter Five Thousand hand weapon as glanced behind him. With a sigh he turned back to the sneering renegade.
A truly maddening grin spread across the face of the renegade, "Not quite who you were expecting, eh Tizj'vat?"
