    • NEVER leave a CD in the drive...

You all probably know of the annoying bug in EV and EVO that regenerates a planet's defense fleet if you accidentally click demand tribute before a planet's defense fleet is completely dead. Well, I just discovered a new incarnation of it...

I spent literally hours going through Neslaut's wimpy yet positively ludicrously huge defense fleet. When I finally kill everything and hail the planet, my computer picks that moment to spool up the CD-rom drive with my Brood War CD in it resulting in a white screen area where the hail box will appear once the CD drive is spooled up. Of course I automatically click the area where "Demand Tribute" would be before I realize what's happening. When the CD finally spools up, the hail box dissapears, so I hail the planet again, but clicking demand tribute results in a regenerated defense fleet.

I guess the lesson here is never leave a CD in the drive if you're going to be dominating planets in EVO, EV is fine because most defense fleets are of a size where they should only take about fifteen minutes to kill... Also be more careful than me. I probably just clicked close communication instead of demand tribute by accident or something.

Excuse me while I go curse at EVO some more.

    • Man, Brood War? That chick on the box is sexy, except for all that alien infestation crap.

Strange, I've never seen or heard of this bug, are you sure about it? Then again, I don't dominate planets very often. It's also been ages since I really played EVO.

Last I checked, you could get the SC battle chest for real cheap, right after I bought it for $40 too... And BW comes even cheaper.

And I am sure about this bug, at least I'm sure that Neslaut re-launched it's defense fleet when I clicked demand tribute, and in EV I saw a planet be down to like one fighter then send its defense fleet out after I clicked demand tribute by accident.

Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.

    • Also, I don't know if this is a bug, but I got so ticked at the raid outpost terrapin mission (for the Igadzra) because no matter how many times I went to terrapin and killed everything, the missions still wouldn't end correctly at Pimre station that I tried to dominate outpost terrapin, but Azdgari ships kept hypering in and taking my shields down a lot resulting in my death. Last I checked, fighting a planet's defense fleet blocked all other ships from entering the system...

    • Okay, it's not a bug. You have to kill EVERY SINGLE SHIP OF THE DEFENSE FLEET, then you demand tribute. Otherwise, yes it will send it's defense fleet out again :

Also, LI, in that mission you have to kill all of the ships the FIST TIME. If you hyper out of the system or land, I think it messes up. So the first time you enter, beat the crap out of em' 😄

    • Have you noticed that if you're in the middle of a battle and your sides losing, you can land, and blast off again, and the battle will be smaller? I remember fighting 3 Igazras, landing, blasting off again, and facing only 1 Igazra, and a wimpy Igazra Arada, plus my side had two new Zidaras.

    • That's how I beat the Azdgari fleet. I kept trying and eventually I hypered in and just found aradas. A little different situation, but the fleet kept getting smaller.

That would make sense, I ended up beating it anyway after an abort.

The box freaked me out the first time I saw it; I actually turned the in-CD-case instruction booklet around.
