    • Lots more challenges...

Inspired by the "crew of one" challenge, and specifically by Jive 320's comments, here's some challenges for you expert players to liven up the game a bit.

Game completion challenges - that is, accept this challenge and play the entire game while following it.

Fair Fight challenge - no upgrading your ship. Use the same base model that all the AI get, and nothing more. You can buy all the ammo you want, but no extra cannons/turrets, no additional/swapped weaponry or armor, etc.

Close Combat challenge - no ranged weapons; use only Emalgha cannons/turrets for your base weaponry. Mines/defense pods can be used, unless you're feeling really hardcore.

Sniper challenge - no turrets (including swivels) and no guided weapons - cannons, bombs, and unguided rockets only.

Mismatch challenge - No neutron/blaze/Emalgha weapons (phase only) in Voinian space, no neutron/blaze/phase guns (Emalgha only) in the rest of the galaxy.

Millenium Falcon challenge - use a souped-up freighter for everything. (Specifically, the valid ships are: shuttle, UE freighter, UE transporter, any Miranu freighter, Emalgha freighter, or Voinian freighter. Freight-courier, helian, scoutship, and arada are not permitted.)

Make Every Shot Count challenge - if a weapon has unlimited ammo, you can't use it. (If you're feeling extra virtuous, you might also refuse to equip Needle missiles.)

Bomberman challenge - space mines and defense pods only; no cannons, turrets, or anything with its own guidance/propulsion.

      --------------------------------------------------------

Special-purpose challenges - things to do apart from completing the game.

Profit Margin challenge - What is the most net profit you can make from a single cargo haul? (Escorts are permitted, but you must count their hiring costs and your fuel as expenses.)

Excessive Upgrade challenge - How many different outfits can you (legally) equip a ship with? Launchers and ammo both count, as does anything else which appears in your info window. (Thus, maps and fake IDs don't count.)

Most Wanted challenge - Can you manage to achieve a rating of Criminal or worse with every inhabited system in the galaxy? No dominating stellars, though - that's too easy a way to earn hatred. ๐Ÿ™‚

Role Model challenge - Can you achieve a rating of Upstanding Citizen or better with every inhabited system? (Harder than the Most Wanted challenge, I should think.)

    • The Role Model Challenge is probably impossible.

    • Hmm I don't think impossible. I've had that for all but the Voinians before, but if you play their missions before the UE ones there should be a point where it can happen - using a fake ID I guess....

Yeah? Then how do you make the south tip renagades friendly? Other than them you could just take a bounty hunting mission and never complete it. You will then be followed by an endless number of renagades, the destruction of which will earn you brownie points with any nearby governments.

    • I suppose that Council Station should probably be exempt from the Role Model challenge as well... there's just no pleasing some aliens. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • That would be pretty hard in the crescent with the 3 strands.

    • This is actually one of the best topics, iยดve seen on EVO for a long time.

      Bravo Jynnan

    • Getting friendly with the Cresent people isn't really hard. Just do the thing with bounty hunting missions (Above) all round the cresent. I use it all the time if I accedently upset friends.

      They are? Where?

    • A properly upgraded Miran Freighter can actually be a pretty good ship - though it's too slow and clumsey for my tastes.

And the Fair Fight challenge would actually give you a disadvantage, as some AI ships have an afterburner.

Here's another one: the Last Man Standing Challenge - Strict play, no escape pods, and see how far you get. Although completeing the game would be pretty tough.

And then there's the age-old overlord challenge - conqure the galaxy. Of course, that's easy if you have an Adzara w/ doposect armor and experimental shield generators. It would only take about 5 hours to take over Council Station.

I've thought about, for awhile, making a plug that makes the game more challenging in general. Maybe I'll do that. It shouldn't take long.

    • Try this - complete the entire game in only human civilian ships. I advise 6 Cargo Transporter escorts, as with that I was destroying Turncoats with ease, after 20 minutes or so play.

    • Or: complete the entire game in only a UE shuttle with one blaze cannon and a forklift.

      They are? Where?

    • Very interesting... cheating, yet making it more challenging than the actual game...

You'd porably have to join the Agdzari, because forklift or no forklift, there's no way a shuttle is going to survive an onslaught of Adzaras.

Then again, there are people who can complete the game in a Cargo Transporter - suposivly.
