    • An unrelated tangent, sorry but...

I just wanted to pay my respects to a literary and comedic master. I hope I don't bring you all down too much but the greatest sci-fi (comedy) author that ever lived, died recently. The author of "The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" trilogy (always true to his form, there were actually 5 books) died of a heart attack at the age of 41ish (i'm not positive about his age but its close). The reason I bring this up here is I think we are all sci-fi nerds at heart here and if you've never read his stuff before, do it. All I can say is he was a unique author who could actually make me laugh out loud (a rare thing for me) and I encourage you to read his books. He was close to the Python gang since the troup's inception and that fantastic, dry and unexpected British humour just permiates his work. Mr. Adams was THE man and maybe he'll find the answer to "Life, the Universe and Eveything" really is 41 (its an inside comment you'll get if you've read his stuff).

P.S. I know this was not the best place for this message but I thought if any group would appreciate it, you guys would. I mourn the end of both his life and his potential, future work(s). This is a loss for the world. His books didn't change my life but in a world of base humour and predictable jokes he was a breath of fresh air indeed, a true original. Bye Doug, I'll miss you.

    • Correction, I believe the answer was 42 not 41 (it's been a while)

    • He was forty-nine.

    • He was an amazing writer. I loved his books, he was a great man.

I agree totally. He was also the first person in Britain to purchase an Apple Mac, and had a house filled with them in Islington.

I have actually seen the estate agents that Adams got the name Hotblack Desiato from...it's in Hackney, near my godmother's.

    • He also read his Audio books personally and unabridged, hearing him read them makes it twice as funny. I own all his baperbacks and audiobooks (that may seem odd but the humour his reading injects makes it worth it.

    • While I think this was a good thing to post and talk about, another board has been specifically set up for such "tangents" the EV Banter and Brawl. Please post there with non-related EVO stuff in the future.

      Moving it now...
