Is it possible to do missions for the Rigellians or the Magellans, instead of doing the normal ones?

I don't think so. I believe Martin Turner only wrote missions for the storyline

For some reason, I thought it was. I never found them, but I'm fairly sure that
when I merged Frozen Heart with a saved game from an old pilot, a **government
** ship that you got with missions turned into the Magellian Firebird.

The tech level, in the thousands probably, must have been the same. Oh wait - only
the ID number counts. Just realised that.......

Hmm..... Well I'm happy. I have a Firebird with amazing shields, ten of those
weapons that are like neutron blasters, and a load of invincible escorts. Who am
I to complain? <whistles>
