    • Chaos at Ambrosia HQ!

We have a slight problem at Ambrosia HQ. Many of you probably know about (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/newsdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=14&article;=000033")Hector(/url), our African Grey Parrot mascot. His cantankerous deeds are the stuff of legend, and he was even immortalized as the infamous "Captain Hector" in (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/")Escape Velocity(/url) and the sequel, (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/evo/")EV Override(/url).

Well, to use the (url="http://"http://gunther.simplenet.com/v/data/walkonth.htm")famous words of Lou Reed(/url), "...he was a she" -- that's right, folks. Hector D. Byrd turns out to be female all of this time. Hector, we hardly knew ya!

For those who might ask, yes, sexing an African Grey Parrot is difficult -- it required our vet to do bloodwork to verify Hector's shemale status. And unlike OJ, we're not going to contest the blood evidence: we're currently trying to cope with the fact that Hector is a she, not a he.

That's where we'd like your help. Can anyone think of a good female name for Hector? Or should we just keep calling her Hector? Help!!

For some reason I seem to remember knowing Hector was female AGES ago.

    • I think Hector just forged the results, hoping people will spend time coming up with new names and replacing it in the ev games, only to later reveal he was male all along. Hector is really hoping you won't contest those blood results. The vet's probably in on it, too.

      ------------------

    • Wow. Hector a lady. Why not get a male parrot too so you can have 'Hectorettes'? Nah I'm just kidding. Ok, good female name for Hector......Hectoretta is good, and Helen would be a good name too. Hope this helps mister El Presidenté.

    • How about Hal, short for Hailey...or just Hailey? I think it has a good familiar ring to it...we do of course, want to keep the great memory of our fast dying ignorance on the part of Hector's true gender.

    • Yeah, in one of Andrew's newswires called Et tu Hecte (or something similar if memory serves me right) it mentioned that Hector was a female. I think it said that is why Hector attacked the secretary, becuase she was "competition". All I remeber was the the article was hilariously funny, especial the part about the delivery guy. 🙂

Did anyone else read that article in the Ambrosia Times?

    • Before anyone corrects me, Et tu Hecte does talk about the delivery guy but not about Hector being female. But I am sure I read it in an article in the Ambrosia Times. Probably a long while ago.. hmm... anybody else remeber something like that?

    • I think it must have been up a while back....

I don't check that area, so it must have been in the days my elder brother did, and
      he mut have told me.

      Egg on your faces, eh?

Well, let's see... Hector is the eldest son of Priam in Shakespeare's rather obscure play, Troilus and Cressida. This suggests that Hector's new name might be Helen (of Troy). But let's look a little deeper...

Weird factoid: Hector has a sister called Polyxena! Now THERE, my friends, is a name for a warrior parrot, if ever there was one.

    • Keep it Hector- She obviously knows her name altready, so if you change it she'll have to learn a new name for her self. In short, it'll be VERY DIFFICULT!

    • Indeed I think it will.

    • Why not Hecate? (but I don't think she minds keeping Hector)
"the Goddess (in Greece mythology) with three forms, Selene in the sky, Artemis on earth, Hecate in the lower world and in the world above when it is wrapped in darkness. Hecate was the Goddess of the Dark of the Moon, the black nights when the moon is hidden. She was associated with deeds of darkness, the Goddess of the Crossways, which held to be ghostly places of evil magic."
