I just started a new pilot today, so I'm well-placed to post on this thread. I didn't bother naming the shuttle because I knew I wouldn't be keeping it long enough to matter. Got a cargo transporter and called it Miss American Pie , saved up and did a nightmarish Pax-Omm-Telnan run with six escorts full of crassworms.
I added a fuel tank, and zipped up to meet the Miranu. You don't need a scoutship if you can remember the way... got myself an Arada. It was actually a Voinian Arada by the time I'd finished with it; maxed out of neutron cannon... called it Now Who's Laughing. Killed the dreadnaught prototype (doesn't everyone?), and decided it was time for an upgrade. Now, I'm in a Lazira called Shark Sandwich. I always put in the first name I think of.
If anything, the 'real' dreadnaught mission was harder than the prototype, because the Lazira can only carry 3 guns, whereas the smaller Arada can have four. An annoying throwback to version 1.0.0... but I've decided to keep Shark Sandwich for a few more hours.

I would use Hyperspace Marauder , but it doesn't fit in the info box on the title screen and the player info box. And that bugs me.

Right now I'm naming all my ships U.E.S. (Something) (I was playing F-25 recently and bought a Bomaarii Cruiser and called it the U.E.S. Fatima , but I aborted a Querin mission so all the Querin hate me now so I'll wait until thew F-25 rewrite to play that plugin again)

Turncoats would be alright if you could sell the goddamn fighter bay. And UE Cruisers are OK, but if I captured one, I would go capture a CW or a Igadzra or Lazira with it.
And sorry, I haven't ever heard of those boooks. (If that where the name Derby Roller is from or something ;))

I take whatever the computer gives me unless I plan to keep the ship for a very long time, or if it's a really good ship.
When I do name my ships, I name them all sorts of crazy crap, and always add N.S. before the name . Sometimes it's something stupid like N.S. Avenger or N.S. Predator or some crap like that. Occasionally I will name my ship after an element. For example: N.S. Seaborgium, N.S. Xenon, N.S. Tungsten...
Or, like I said before, it may be just some crazy name: N.S. Aurora, N.S. Nebula, N.S. Scapula, etc.
